The BlizzCon 2017 Live Q&A has now concluded. Below you will find our recap which includes summarized answers from the Q&A portion of the panel and the nine new cards being added to the arena for a limited time. Be sure to join us on the forums to talk about the new arena cards. We've also got screenshots of the panel if that's your thing!
Present during this panel were Hearthstone's Ben Brode, Mike Donais, Peter Whalen ,and Yong Woo.
Quote from HearthPwnArena Cards
- The Dev Team has 27 cards for us to look at and vote on for inclusion in the arena.
- There are 3 cards per class with 1 card per class being added to the arena.
- The arena event will be a temporary thing, not permanent.
- The cards are not collectible.
Player Stats
- Doing player stats is something they want to do and recently they've been building infrastructure for it.
Druids
- They definitely want to add another Druid hero to the game.
- Finding the right hero to contrast with Malfurion is important. They liked how Nemsy was very different than Gul'dan.
- Druid and Ultimate Infestation are being watched. Statistically speaking though it's not a huge swing card, it just feels that way emotionally.
Random Card Backs
- They've been talking about card back randomization.
- The card back has been painted for the option, they just need to write the code.
Dungeon Runs
- Dungeon Runs should be fun for a long time due to all the different permutations available.
- They should learn a lot from Dungeon runs in how players consume that type of content.
- They've considered releasing more bosses to runs mid-expansion, but nothing concrete yet.
- They don't want to force people to play Dungeon Runs so there aren't any rewards.
- The only reward for Dungeon Runs is the card back for defeating the run with all 9 classes.
Fireside Gatherings
- Fireside Gatherings could be used to build a different type of drafting for arena.
- The Lich King event at Gamescom and Fireside Gatherings was really popular. They will definitely do similar stuff in the future.
Misc
- Morgl may be 10001 years old.
- They may rotate more cards to the Hall of Fame during the next Standard year. No announcements yet.
- Titan's Grip is Mike's favourite card that wasn't added to the game. He won't tell us what it does.
- In World of Warcraft, Titan's Grip allows a Warrior to dual-wield weapons.
- Peter keeps successfully denying the card in each set.
- Destroy a 4 attack minion is Ben's favourite Priest fantasy.
- They would like to add a replay feature at some point.
Winning Arena Cards
These cards will be added to the arena in a future patch. We've got a dedicated discussion thread up on our Arena Forums.

Just imagine if from beyond would have been a constructed card. I would have been insane in old fashion discard zoo.
Wow!
new arena meta crackling doom turn 1, Snowfury Giant The Coin Snowfury Giant Kappa
lol no coin needed m8
*edit* whoops nope thought overload was 12 as well, turns out you do need coin
The idea of Crackling Doom is great in my opinion..
Some others don't look like thought through till the end..
Lets look at this from another point of view: What if I do enjoy PvE content (like Dungeon Runs), but I don't like grinding ladder... But because of this logic, they force me to play ladder (the thing I don't like) over PvE (the thing I do like) if I ever want to get any packs.
The only way they wouldn't "force us" to play either game mode is when both would give equal rewards (10g per 3 wins end eligible for daily quests).
Here, take my generous doomsayer and let me draw 3.
Im fine with a "fun" single player mode. but they should add random loot throughout. if you beat a certain random boss get a card back. If you beat a specific boss with a certain hero get a new emote. make it things that arent game breaking but still a reason to dip your toe in there every once in a while.
Because it's pointless in the long run. It's not like single player mode in HS has any replay value like other video games. Inn Keeper Challenge is free too how many people keep playing it?
Good idea but they way they utilize is just boring, lack of imagination .
I don't get why people constantly defend the terrible rewards system in HS. Compared to other card games, HS's playtime to reward ratio is an absolute joke. Crafting cost to DE value is a complete joke. $50 for 50 packs is tired joke. Nobody is laughing except Blizzard and all the dumb asses who think rewards are fair in this game.
Well i kinda get the rant about it.
Its like the lich king encounter. It is a fun way. And you got something for beating him once. And something for beating him with all nine classes.
I still did not play vs him at all after i got arthas.
Same thing will happen now, and i does not have to be that way.
Are you annoyed because you have a gold hero and still suck? So you are embarrassed when ppl see that you played 750+ games with him and still suck?
What's not to like about golden heroes? They're nice, shiny and animated and serves as proof of your dedication to a hero.
I think that I get their thoughts on not wanting to make hardcore ladder players feel like they have to play pve to get the reward (tavern brawl, cough cough). But I think as a f2p player, after I hit my target on ladder I usually play arena because I enjoy it more and rewards are slightly better. I think even if there is no pack like tavern brawl, maybe there just needs to be like 10g per 3 wins or something to balance the opportunity cost of grinding ladder or arena. Just my thoughts.
Kinda. At least, at some point, it becomes a grind. And grinding reduces the fun, especially in an unbalanced meta. So, yeah, technically, reaching a certain point (rank) kills the fun.
At least until Legend rank, where you can experiment, play gimmick decks and so on, which returns the "fun and interactive" theme of the game.
Stats and random back cards (because I don't have patience to always switch card backs), will definitely cheer me up. I've been expecting that for so long.
Someone asked for a system where the picture on the back of your card (the reward for rank 20 every month) could be chosen randomly every time you enter a game, rather than having to manually change it each time if you want something different.
Another suggestion was that maybe every card in your deck would have a different picture on the back.
All Hearthstone interviews ever in a nutshell:
> What about *add very basic game feature*?
> Oh yeah, we're definitively talking about this internally. Nothing else we can say about this for now.
Well, at least Ultrasaur dodges Crackling Doom.
In my opinion, the Arena cards are solid.
Dungeon Run needs incentives for considerably increased replay ability.
