World's Largest Fireside Gathering Battles the One Million Health Lich King

As of noon (EDT) on Wednesday, August 23, the Lich King has been defeated.

Yesterday, Blizzard published their gamescom 2017 preview where they announced everything you're going to be able to see at this year's event. When they got to the Hearthstone part, Ben Brode and Ben Thompson started talking about new Fireside Gathering features and how they'd be live at gamescom for everyone to enjoy.

It's the world's largest Fireside Gathering.

Upon connecting to the internet at the convention and you get yourself onto Hearthstone, you'll be greeted with a Tavern Sign indicating you are in the gamescom Tavern. This unlocks a special Tavern Brawl feature called Fireside Brawls which are accessible at all Fireside Gatherings. The brawl that is active this time around is a community-based Lich King takedown. It works like this:

  • Grab a friend! They "expect" you to play this with two players on one device.
  • Your opponent? The Supreme Lich King. He has one million health!
  • Choose your hero and you're given a deck.
  • When the game begins, you start with 9 mana and 20 health.
  • The goal is to defeat the Lich King using everyone at the Fireside Gathering.
  • You need to deal as much damage as possible to The Lich King, which will be displayed at the end of game on a scorecard.
  • Once you've died, the second player gets to choose a new class through a discover interface.

He's also got some special cards!

And Hero Powers! We don't know when he changes Hero Powers, but it's probably based on his Health.

The residing Innkeeper can tune the difficulty of the fight.
