Knights of the Frozen Throne Cinematic: The Known but Unknown Cards
This article is pure speculation based on images which Blizzard has presented us in the cinematic trailer of Knights of the Frozen Throne. It should be used as a point for discussion and not as an absolute truth.
Let's dissect the cards shown in the cinematic! This small glimpse into the set showcases exactly what direction Blizzard is going with the theme since we haven't seen too many cards yet. Although the cards below appear to be legendary, this is just trickery as previous cinematics have done the exact same with the resulting card being rare or even just a token from an adventure. Keep that in mind as to not be disappointed that you won't get to play with some of these characters.
Enough of that, onto the cards!
The 3 Mana 2/2
Definitely a Crypt Lord. One could argue that he isn't going to be a very popular one due to the lower stat allocation, but that doesn't really matter with Hearthstone; we love unplayable lore characters.. Oh hey there Illidan Stormrage, how are you doing?
Due to the Icecrown setting, this could very well be Underking Talonox, the only residing Crypt Lord in the World of Warcraft zone. He also happens to fit the color profile of the cinematic card unlike other Crypt Lords of Northrend, which is some serious bonus points being added.
Hey Anub'arak, you're getting a friend!
The 5 Mana 5/4
More Val'kyr, in my Hearthstone? This is acceptable on many levels. The Val'kyr are ascended warriors of the Light who live to serve the Titanic Watcher, Odyn. Their goal is to bring the spirits of dead Vrykul to his Halls of Valor. If you're really interested in these characters, I recommend reading up on the Wowpedia page.
She appears to be quite colorful in comparison to the Scourge Val'kyr, and most Val'kyr now that we bring it up, that serve the Lich King which makes it harder to pinpoint an exact match, but let's take a look at the notable Val'kyr ladies present in Northrend anyway.
- Svala Sorrowgrave - The first boss of Utgarde Pinnacle, a dungeon in World of Warcraft
- Sister Svalna - Prison Guard of Valithria Dreamwalker in Icecrown Citadel
- Vardmadra - A high ranking Val'kyr in the Lich King's army. She was killed by the Lich King himself.
- Olrun the Battlecaller - One of the first characters Death Knights meet in their adventure. She actually isn't in Northrend in WoW.
With so many fine characters, it's a shame none really fit the vibrant colors. Pictured above is Svala Sorrowgrade, the closest match. Of course, it could just be this particular card isn't on the Lich Kings side and she's come from abroad to help push his forces back. Cool.
The 4 Mana 5/1
Magma Rager, move over, we've got an even worse card! Although that's an incredibly flawed statement to make at this point in time considering we have no idea if it's even collectible, but it sure is funny seeing a 5/1 that costs an extra mana over our magmalicious friend.
So, who is this guy? Well, he's definitely a Death Knight, and a slick one at that. The giveaway? Blue accents everywhere. Oh yeah, and the runesword of course.
Unfortunately, it looks like we've come up short.
Being a Blood Elf, there's not too many notable Death Knights out there from that race. The first one that pops into mind is the ever-so-popular Koltira Deathweaver, one of the first Death Knights to join the Horde through the Knights of the Ebon Blade. Unfortunately, this is not the man we're looking for. No red armor, the hair is completely wrong, and more importantly, Koltira would never be seen with a plain runesword!
Do you have any idea who this Death Knight could be?
Speaking of Koltira, did you know he was classified as an Ally (Minion) in the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game? Here's his WoWTCG card and some other Blood Elf Death Knight Heroes from Hearthstone's predecessor.
The 3 Mana Fus Roh Dah
No attack and health for this one, unfortunately, but damn girl you let that breath out.
She's looking like another Death Knight with those glowing blue eyes and outfit, but, horns? I suppose Arthas wouldn't discriminate and is accepting of all races to join his army, but this minion definitely doesn't fit any of WoW's playable races. With that possibility gone, we have no clue who she could be.
Maybe this is Bethesda's way of adding Skyrim to yet another platform this year...
The 3 Mana Shark Bear
Words, I have none. Does anyone want to take a guess at this magnificent beast's effect text? It surely has to be amazing.
That's the final card that was showcased in this expansion's cinematic, and in all honesty, that's the perfect end. Hopefully it ends up being collectible and not just something out of the adventure portion of the Knights of the Frozen Throne expansion. Hey Blizzard, could we make this Shark Bear Thing into a Death Knight as well? That'd be rad.

Definetly not. Those are not horns, that's part of the helmet. And Taurens don't have horns like that, these horns look more like they are taken from Rams, so i would assume that's dwarf female.
Horns are part of helmet, correct, that's right, but look at those face (nose especially) and ofc braids ;)
On second inspection i'm more certain that it's not tauren female. Taurens have lower part of the face kinda pushed forward, while the "thing" on the picture has normal-ish looking face.
I've just googled tauren female and put them next to each other and they don't look anything alike. I admit, me saying that it was dwarf is also stupid, but helmet threw me off, but i can say certianly that is not Tauren.
C'mon, really ? The fus-ro-dah death Knight is clearly female tauren. Horns? check, Big brawny brown hands? check, Braids? check, totally a tauren.
And I LOVE the shark monster they added at the end of the slideshow! It shows us that this expansion won't be super dark grim and serious and that we will have few fun and goofy cards too :)
Tauren only have 3 fingers, the thing on the picture has 5. It looks like a female dwarf and the horns are just a helmet.
Hey! I always did that! D:
Romeo was a card in the karazhan trailer, ended being non playable.
Romeo was in a set that had only 30 or so cards, this one has 135, so they have more art to choose from
Actually, they do. The cards seen in the Un'Goro opening were Humongous Razorleaf, Rockpool Hunter, Rock Elemental, Giant Wasp and Tortollan Primalist. All those were shown with the correct stats. It is just the class, text and rarity that is worng, as all cards are shown as Warlock legendaries with no text.
The only time it has not been correct was with Sergeant Sally. If I had to guess, her stats and even perhaps her text was changed mid-development. Or maybe even just some miscommunication.
Guac Boy <> SharkBear
is that ManBearPig's cousin ManBearShark?
I'm pretty sure the shark bear is called Fisha...
That shark-head-bear its quite disturbing.
shark-head-MAN-bear* haha
as for the shark bear bear shark? the heck
I could see an effect like Battlecry: Intimidate your opponent. Roaar!
Lemme guess.. after all the hype its another year of Pirates Warrior 10/10
Implying pirate warrior is the best deck in the meta LUL
Its funny that no one admit it and give me a T down, yet its being played around 50% on standard and wild ladder, bunch of hypocrites..
