Paid BattleTag Name Changes Now Available for $10 USD
Players on Battle.net have been asking for a paid BattleTag change service since the early days of BattleTags, and it's finally here. BattleTag changes are available for $10 USD (in the Americas) once you've used your free change. Details below!
Quote from BlizzardLooking to change up how you identify yourself in the Blizzard online community? The BattleTag® you originally chose doesn’t have to be your nickname for all eternity—sometimes you want to switch to something more suited to the hero (or villain) you’ve become since you first arrived in the Blizzard universe. While we’ve always provided players with one free BattleTag change per account, now we’re pleased to offer an additional paid BattleTag change service for those of you who would appreciate the opportunity to choose yet another new moniker.
FREE FIRST CHANGE
If you’re ready for something new and haven’t already used your free BattleTag change, simply visit your Account Management Dashboard, and click the Change link under your Account Details to the right of your current tag.
If you haven’t used your free change yet, don’t worry—BattleTag changes don’t expire and yours will be waiting for you if and when you ever decide to use it.
If you’ve already used your first free change and still feel like a new nickname would be a better fit, the option to purchase an additional change will be available within Account Management. Changes are available for $10 each, and your new moniker will be reflected on your friends list automatically after making the change.
For more details on the feature, check out our support article or visit the Shop page.
PAID BATTLETAG CHANGE FAQ
If I want to change my BattleTag, does it have to be something unique?
BattleTags do not need to be unique. You can use any name you want, as long as it follows our Naming Policy. Each BattleTag is assigned a numeric ID to create a unique identifier (for example, FallenSlayer#3592).Will changing my BattleTag affect my friends list?
Your friends will now automatically see you listed under your new BattleTag, but otherwise your friends list will not be affected by this change. Will new accounts still get a free name change upon creation?
Yes. All new Battle.net accounts will continue to receive one free BattleTag change upon creation.
Can anybody suggest to me a battletag worth USD10?
I will change it and post proof here
If you never used your first freebie or the one you got from the Overwatch free name change, would you have 2 or just the 1 still?
I don't think Blizzard is charging $10 to make as much money as possible. They don't want people to regularly change their battle tag for shits and giggles, but choose a battle tag they can identify with.
Making it $10 they ensure that they are less "Kappa"s, "ResidentSleeper"s and so on, while still giving those with strong motivation to change their battle tag the chance to do so.
I'm not saying I approve of Bliizard's decision to charge for it, but I see why they are doing it.
its why they made other services so expensive too, they don't want people moving wow servers, they don't want people using the buy max level character etc etc, 'the prices are not high to make money' BUT THEY DO! and they make bucket loads of the stupid automated services at almost no cost,
I know friends who have dropped hundreds into warcraft just getting their characters on to servers that are not dead, that should be free and handled by blizz! you do not need to put a $ cost to stop someone abusing a service just but a freaking cooldown on it
one day there would be "Purchase a digital limited version of WoW and you can change initial 4 letters of battle tag (worth 2.5$)".
I don't know the policy but how much does it cost to change my name in the real life?
I can't find anywhere list of banned names?
It only said it is based on discretion of players' report and Blizard whims.
Where is the list?
I'm pretty sure that anyone who asked for this did not want to pay for it . But yeah Blizzard would even try to sell condoms to a monk just to get some more money
Am I able to purchase a "free opponent name change"? I would pay 50 dollars if I have to. I want to give these people original names like "I won thanks to Yogg" and "Cancerlord". THIS is worth paying a lot of money
This reeks of Digital Homicide levels of laziness.
And now let's ask for FREE BATTLE TAG NAME CHANGE! Just kidding if company find increasing WOW abonament as a solution to lowering popularity then i leave no hope.
This is functionally identical to the alternate heroes (Magni, Medivh, etc.)- you pay $10.00 for a completely optional cosmetic change. Before this update, you could not change your name after the first time. Now, they're giving you an option to do so. If you think it's overpriced, then this update doesn't affect you at all. This is Blizz giving players an option that they didn't have before, not charging for something that already existed.
Am I saying that it's reasonably priced? No. But please realize, this update has no downside whatsoever for us players. It is optional, additional content, and you are under no obligation to buy it.
Drugs? Alcohol? Cigarets? Life? #Illuminati
Kharazan? Naxxramas?
LOL $10
$5 would have been reasonable
What a fu*cking greedy company
