Ben Brode on Standard 2017 - If Things Won't Change Enough, We'll Tweak It
Recently there has been concern floating around the community with regards to the Standard format in 2017. Ben Brode took to Twitter to state that they would make changes if needed. This could include:
- Nerf cards like the nerfs for Standard 2016.
- Moving cards to the wild set.
Standard 2017 will see Blackrock Mountain, The Grand Tournament, and The League of Explorers sets moved to Wild only.
Quote from Ben BrodeReading feedback on Standard and whether things will change enough in 2017. If we think they won't, we'll make tweaks to ensure freshness. (Source)Not sure yet if that's nerfs like we did with Old Gods or something else like moving cards to wild like we did with Murk Eye. (Source)
Any chance of not letting League of Explorers expire in the next set rotation? Would be a shame to see it go so soon.
Ideally we will release awesome new cards, and Wild will also be awesome. (Source)As long as you stick with flawed idea of the classic set, things are always gonna be partially stagnant. :(
Not sure that's true. What if we nerfed every card in it, for example? (Source)
I'll probably end up having nightmares about Brode nerfing my family.
if black rock mountain, league of explorers, and TGT are getting moved to wild soon should I even bother buying the adventures/crafting or buying TGT cards? I haven't played since gvg
I think the main issue is that the neutral cards still are too good. I'm pretty sick of seeing abusive sergeants all over the place. Expansions should include more class cards and less neutrals. So you can't play shaman with abusive sergeant, paladin with abusive sergeant, warlock with abusive sergeant, hunter with abusive sergeant... etc. A hunter aggro deck should look different from a zoo warlock, not being half the same with the few good class minions and spells. Neutrals should be filler for when you don't have a card.
Abusive is probably the most broken card in all of hearthstone. I bet it would still be played if it was 2 mana.
Tuskar should be nerfed to only spew one of the 4 class totems...nothing else.
Breaking news Blizzard might at some point tweak something next year sometime maybe. Thanks for keeping us in the loop Ben!
Hopefully next year they bring out wild packs, where you get a random set of cards from the wild expansion card pool (adventures probably wouldn't be included)
Hey Brode, you know what Overwatch is doing? They not only nerf stuff, but also BUFF THEM! Seriously, it's not that hard. Part of game balance is increasing and decreasing the strengths of things so that way everyone is on an equal playing field. Just decreasing cards tip the scale one way instead of making it balanced.
It currently enables too many aggro decks to have Steady Shot or Life Tap as they please. Although I like the idea of Hunter with Fireblast , it's just not reality.
I really would not mind classic set being fully pushed out of standard
Or maybe a "Modern" set with classic and 2years of cards, and one "recent" with only crads from the last 3 releases
without standard you wouldnt have aoe for most classes and close to no classcards or synergy between them. reworked basic/classic is the way to go with removed good/cool rebalanced cards (3 mana mad scientist, 4/5 loatheb, healbot, deathlord...).
only wolfrider, ooze, bluegill and novice are played from the neutral basic set. thats 4/43. the classic set is a bit better with around 40/110 but still so much wasted potentical. and there is no "need for bad cards" as blizz/brode call it, unused tech cards are needed even if not played but why the fuck is silverback patriarch in the game? there are 100 better cards and even if you get him bc of rng you are unhappy bc it could be a gnomeregan infantry, fierce monkey or the tantacle and the variance is just useless pain.
i like this
I'd say it's pretty obvious why they only nerf and don't ever give slight buffs to cool cards that obviously just need a little push to become viable:
Why would you make cards good that people already have? No reason to pay for a good deck if a shitload of the cards you already own are suddenly good. All about the money, all about the dum-dum-du-du-dee-dum.
You all should work for blizzard ... oh wait...
Yeah, sure. Why not nerf every Classic card Ben? Good job! -_-
Why are they removing 3 expansions in 2017? Especially LOE :( whyyy
You act like there will be no new sets to replace those moving to wild. I think you'll be ok if you wait and see what comes out. Patience, young padawan.
You realize that Naxx had the most powerful cards of any set released, right? Losing that is what really allowed a lot of the stuff you see now to shine. You'd still be looking at a bunch of cards in BRM or LoE and definitely in TGT or WOG as really subpar if Naxx was still around.
It sounds a lot like this is your first card game. Go play Wild like you said and have fun there. Or quit. It doesn't matter.
Let me explain it to you...
Now we have:
Standard: Blackrock Mountain + TGT + LoE + WotOG + ONiK
Wild: Naxx + GvG + Standard sets
Next "Year of the... whatever" (march-april 2017):
Standard: WotOG + ONiK + upcoming expansion late 2016 + upcoming expansion early 2017
Wild: Naxx + GvG + Blackrock Mountain + TGT + LoE + Standard sets
so as you see, there will be lots of cards to play
