Hearthstone Server Upgrades To Come With Patch

Blizzard is getting themselves prepared to handle many more whelps (players) by upgrading their hardware. After the patch goes live, they will be inviting a larger pool of players to the beta test!

The wipe in closed beta is very important to us, and marks a pretty big milestone that we hope a lot of you can be excited about.

First off, wipes aren’t super fun. In fact, they are negative fun. We chose to wipe in the closed beta at this point so we can impact as few people as possible. We understand that wiping data in Hearthstone may cause some frustration for people, but we anticipated having to do this since day one. Wiping will allow us to balance classes and carefully monitor that balance with a bigger player pool.

A bigger player pool? What? Well, after the wipe and patch that goes with it, we’ll be on different hardware than we were before. I’ll spare you the boring behind-the-scenes details, but we were limited in the amount of people we could invite to the first part of closed beta just due to these hardware limitations. With this patch and wipe, we’ll be making some serious transitions into hardware that can accommodate a larger pool of players. TLDR: Brace yourselves, the opt-ins are coming.

It’ll be a process—the gates won’t swing wide open right away, since we still need to make sure this hardware can hold up to the punishment we’re about to inflict upon it. However, as we invite more players to the closed beta test, the feeling of “hey, he’s in closed beta now and I’m not so he has a big advantage!” will diminish greatly since those players that have that small amount of play time “benefit” will soon be in the vast minority.

After the Next Patch

There has been some speculation from the community that there wouldn't be future balance updates after this patch, this is indeed wrong and Aratil confirms it.

This next patch is pretty significant, but we will definitely be continuing to evaluate and make adjustments as needed even after this next patch.

And while keeping with the theme of what to expect after this next patch, Blizzard has no plans to wipe the state during any period of beta testing or release. Your collection and levels from the patch onwards will be yours to keep, forever.

There are currently no plans for another wipe during the closed beta test.

There are also currently no plans for another wipe during the open beta period either. Or after release. No plans.

Beta Testing in Asian Regions

Blizzard does not expect to wipe progress on the Korean, Chinese and Taiwanese Hearthstone servers. There are also plans to allow for Global Play, much like in Starcraft II and Diablo III, so you'll be able to play in any Hearthstone region you wish. Card Collections will not be shared across regions and we can only imagine that you won't be able to purchase card packs in regions outside of your home region, much like how Diablo III works. That however has not been confirmed by Blizzard.

The Korea, Taiwan, and China closed beta tests have not yet begun, and we do not anticipate there to be a wipe for the closed beta tests in those regions. Also, it is important to note that your collections will not be shared across the different regions.

OH .. i get it now, thanks Xerph. I actually thought battle.net app is the server for the hearthstone. so it doesnt matter at all which server we login into using the battle.net APP?

I guess im positioned into NA server then, since i met kripp when i play arena. so i cant just change server as i wish huh?

That is correct. The Hearthstone environment that you are connecting to is based on the home region of your Battle.net account. If your account is based in Southeast Asia, then you will connect to the North American Hearthstone closed beta environment.

How will it work after beta?
I have friends all over the world, will i have to change my account region every time i want to play one of those friends?
Will my card collection be present on all servers?

Eventually, you will be able to change the Hearthstone environment that you connect to, regardless of the home region of your Battle.net account. However, as noted above, card collections will not be shared across the different regions.
