Blizzard Q4 Earnings Call
It was announced today during Blizzard's quarterly earnings call that Hearthstone is now beyond 40 million registered players. In May of last year we saw Hearthstone at 30 million registered players.
You can view the slides from the presentation here.
Quote from Blizzard
- Hearthstone surpassed 40 million registered players before League of Explorers launched.
- League of Explorers sold 20% more units in the first six weeks of release than Blackrock Mountain did in the same time frame.
- Hearthstone hit all-time franchise highs in multiple categories, including MAUs, at the end of Q4.

Keep up the good work, Hearthpwn!
That awkward moment when you learn that Candy Crush belongs to Blizzard..
I would like to know the count and the criteria for monthly active users. Did they release that info or is it internal only?
Congratulation Hearthstone, this games deserves it... having alot more fun than WoW or Heroes of the Storm.
Need to start counting active accounts or we will have 100millions coming next year.
No wonder they sold LoE more... it was released a week after announcement and the players didn't have time to save gold for it
i know more people bought it with real money this time, but this statement
I believe that they sold more because the price was reachable for most players. I had the gold but I didn't want to waste it, since I found the pricing reasonable and the content was worth it.
That explains why at rank like...15 you are already along 25-30% of players, there are like 25 million don't play anymore xD
Hey, nice numbers. Congratulations!
Now move your fat lazy ass, hire more people and do a great job with formats. Balance the shit out of it.
Or you better change the name of your game to Paladinstone.
So much fresh meat we got to devour! Hopefully the next announcement happens soon, I'm getting hungry again.
Food wordplay aside; Good to hear! Hope it doesn't go to their heads... Or hips. ;)
Blizzard is always bragging about how many players registered, but i'm pretty sure there's a reason why we've never ever heard the amount of actual active / daily / monthly players...
It's already quite suspicious that they tell us you're in the top 2% of players when you just reach rank 5, while that's relatively easy to reach for everybody who can at least google a good deck and isn't retarded... The only thing it proves is that there's a shitload of inactive players at rank 25 - 20...
Can google a good deck? Check!
Rank 5? Nope!
Damn... if I had time to play enough HS for rank 5 I would not be retarded :[
Damn university, friends and life....
No shit sherlock, but saying that you need to spend money on Hearthstone to reach rank 5 is just bullshit... Last season I reached rank 2 with an aggro Shaman deck that only requires about 2000 dust and the LoE adventure. And on top of that, it's also rather easy to play...
If you are 40 years old who judge someones statement about their (un)availability of time without knowing them, and find it important to tell them its pathetic, I find this pathetic. You being involved in a lot of activities means nothing because we cant measure how good you are at them. You could be doing all of them poorly. Or was your response just another attempt at self ego boosting?
P.S.
I play more than 3 hours a month for sure and I don't get to rank 5. Probably because I'm not as good as you. Or maybe its not that important to me...
For those who don't speak earnings call jargon, MAUs = Monthly Active Users.
I stopped playing right after LOE was released. I had played non-stop since beta and probably spent close to $200. I wasn't have any fun, it was just frustrating facing the same decks over and over. On top of that the best decks to play were all rage inducing (Secret Paladin, Zoo). I don't see myself ever coming back. I think the cards and hero powers are poorly designed and Blizzard is in over their heads with this game.
I'd understand if you did it a couple weeks before, but a week after, and then complaining now? The Meta is at its best since the release of Naxx, and with Standard half of the aggro decks will become obsolete, including secret paladin. I don't agree with your view what so ever.
