How Good is Master Jouster?
Kripparrian uploaded a video today discussing Master Jouster, a card which hasn't seen much play, and Jousting in general. How do you feel about the Joust mechanic which was introduced with The Grand Tournament? Have you been playing any decks which makes use of it?

New Overwatch Heroes - Junkrat & Roadhog
Blizzard unveiled a couple of new heroes today in the Overwatch universe and our sister site OverPwn has all the details. Go and check out the Junkrat and Roadhog hero pages to learn more about their stories and abilities.
The Overwatch beta starts this fall. Make sure you opt-in!
Just curious if anyone knows if hearthpwn just likes Kripp or if he talks about stuff that they feel is relevant to the community at that time.
These guys look straight out of Borderlands. Sweet.
I agree
Turns out Master Jouster is pre-e-e-e-etty good!
Not reliable enough.
Overwatch looks fun, but how many of these characters will be behind paywalls?
Hard to fit in a deck, making it reliable joust
Not really interested in Overwatch myself, too many games like it imo
Good card. But too far to be OP. RNG...
The joust mechanic is ironically bad against fast rushy aggro decks in general. It was intended to be a sort of counter to those types of decks because if someone were running all small minions in a fast aggro deck, then you would always win your jousts.
The thing is, that even though you always win the jousts against that type of deck, by the time you get to the point where you can play large or even medium sized joust minions (which most of them are), you are already almost guaranteed to lose. The effects triggered by the current joust minions just aren't powerful enough to turn the game in your favor, against all the rush aggro decks.
What actually ends up happening, is that the new cards which make these fast aggro decks even faster just end up boosting those decks, and the joust mechanic just gets left in the dust.
For fuck's sake, even in casual, all people are playing nowadays is secret paladin.
Far from discouraging the fast aggro deck dominating meta, which was before, this expansion has actually somehow sped it up even more and enforced that fast aggro rush meta even more.
For those of us who like to play control or tempo, the constructed (casual and ranked) modes are quickly becoming nigh-on unplayable.
Eventually the arena mode will be the only thing we are left with that holds even a little bit of potential for fun for Control/Tempo players.
Pretty soon, the only thing you'll see in constructed is: face hunter, zoolock, secret paladin, patron warrior. We are already almost there.
I'm not sure what happened in Trump vs Bloodyface matches 3-5. Bloodyface was winning hard in almost every match and then just throws it away at the right moment. It's almost to the point where I suspect match fixing based on that alone. I mean it's probably more so tournament pressure, but it's quite incredible.
The Joust mechanic is just too unreliable. If the mechanic itself awarded the proc on draws, then it would be much more consistent and useful. As it is, you are punished for using it in aggressive decks that favor lower mana drop creatures, while mid-range, control, and giant themed decks have much better cards that never use this mechanic. Right now, it just has no place in the meta.
Joust is just too unreliable to work. The only Joust cards I've seen any decent use out of is Tuskarr Jouster and Healing Wave, especially the latter. The problem with Joust is that it has to be good on its own. Healing Wave takes a -1 penalty (from Healing Touch for example), but can gain up to +6 from it, so it's fairly good on its own. Master Jouster immediately suffers a -1/-1 (or +1 mana) baseline, and IF you win the Joust, then you have a decent card that is screaming to be silenced, so he's actually really crap, and sadly, most of the Joust cards are like this. They shouldn't suffer massive penalties for having a CHANCE to be better.
I mean look at King's Elekk. Why doesn't that card suffer any penalties? 3/2 for 2 is the norm, it's also a beast, AND it has a Joust mechanic? Why is that one balanced fairly well and Master Jouster (and the others) tuned so horribly? The reason it's not used more often is because, well, it's a Hunter card, and most Hunters run Face Hunter (mostly low-cost) or Midrange Hunter (mostly low-medium cost), meaning you'll lose almost all your Jousts.
Lets talk about Joust. I tried Joust. I tried out every Joust card. So first I will say in Arena they are just ok, mostly because you can build to be able to take advantage of them. Kings Elekk being the one you want if you happen to be Hunter, if you play it turn 2 you can have a little card advantage, its even a beast, problem is Hunter is just not good in Arena. And Tuskarr Jouster if you get lucky and get Paladin and then you need to make sure you have enough 4+ cards, However I have lost many times because a missed Jousts with Tuskarr, so sometimes its better just to make sure you won't get in that position to begin with. And Master Jouster fits any class but is hard to pull off if you are going really aggro, and can miss just like Tuskarr can miss.
But moving to Constructed. Master Jouster is to slow, and relying on a coin flip to have a taunt is not good, just as Kripp said. Then there is Kings Elekk. You are not going to win a lot of flips as a Hunter. He was in just about every Hunter deck I played at first and is still there in my Mid range Hunter, Being a Beast is useful. But the problem remains in that you lose too many flips and then you just have a 3/2.
But what about Tuskarr Jouster. I tried him out and at first he seemed real good. I had a few higher mana cards and things where working out. Saving me from randomly dying to early game rushes. Then I noticed people started expecting this, and 7 health and a 5/5 body where just not cutting it. Then to make matters worse I started keeping track of how many Times I actually won jousts, and how many times it was actually relevant. Turns out I did win then about 70% of the time, But it was only relevant around 25% of the time. See what happens is that if you get your early game minions early, out of your deck so you know you won't joust into to them, 3/4 times you don't need the 7 health by turn 5-7 but will successfully Joust 80-90% depending on opponent. Then if you didn't get your early game minions and are falling behind and need the 7 health by turn 5-7 that means you still have many smaller minions in your deck and probably have drawn a few of your big threats. Meaning you end up losing your Jousts more often, turns out that amount was only 50-60%. So while it averaged out to about 70% over a decent amount of games. When I really needed it, I was putting the game on a Coin flip give or take. So in the end Tuskarr was cut and replaced with better options. Sludge Belcher, Quarter Master, and Loatheb being all better options.
Master Jouster = Sunwalker with joust: gain +1/+1
Without Joust, you're a Pit Fighter with +1 mana or Boulderfist Ogre with -1/-1.
Meh, the only useful Joust cards are King's Elekk and Tuskarr Jouster (replaced Antique Healbot on all Paladin decks I played).
Edit: forgot to mention the Shaman heal 7/14 one which I can't remember the name; it makes heavy control Shaman decks somewhat viable (although they're still weak on the current meta).
I seriously hate watching streams and videos of those so called "Pro's" playing, they take so much fucking time to take a turn! JUST PLAY ALREADY!
May I ask your rank? Not trying to humiliate/bully/make fun of you, but knowing your rank will make it easier to explain why.
Because they're taking their time? lol
