posted a message on Patches should have Rush

Patches was broken because he provided great board control early game for "free".   Giving him Rush just reverts him back to being overpowered.  Nobody cared that he could deal face damage the turn you played another pirate, it was the ability to attack into a creature and trade with it on turn 1 or 2 that made him so good.

Even with the nerf he still sees play, giving him rush effectively undoes the reason he was nerfed in the first place.

posted a message on Malthael Isn't The Only One Reaping Souls - 8% of Blizzard Laid Off, Dev Teams Increasing, Message From J. Allen Brack

The idea is that learning soft skills in a professional setting is much easier to teach than learning how to code.  You are right that excelling at both things is rare; those people generally become managers and there aren't as many of those.

That doesn't mean developers at these companies need to raise their Charisma score to 20 to be successful, it just means they need to write unit tests for their code and learn how to write user stories for the work they do and maybe take social media training.   It's not that big of an ask.

In many tech companies there is a shift to make almost everyone on staff a developer.  Then the developers are expected to take on extra roles that otherwise might be filled by extra staff:   Quality Assurance, Product Management, Project Management, and Community Management.

Riot has been doing this for a few years now, and a lot of other tech companies are making a similar shift.  The idea is that if you staff your entire company with developers you indeed have to pay individual employees more money but those people are more versatile.  2 Developers that do coding, QA, project management tasks and community relations are more efficient than 1 developer, 1 QA engineer, 1 PM and one CM doing the same thing.

When you see someone like Iksar on Reddit answering questions that's a bi-product of this line of thinking.

I'm not saying my specific examples are exactly what Blizzard is doing here, but it's not surprising they are laying off non development staff.  Blizzard is an old company with an older culture.  This appears to be a big cultural shift for them that a lot of Silicon Valley has already adopted.

posted a message on New Warrior Card Reveal - War Master Voone

This isn't a nerf.  5 mana 4/4 is way too few stats even with the value.   A 4 mana 4/3 is a much better card since it let's you trade effectively.  Compare to Elven Minstrel which sees plenty of play.

This is really fun.  I swapped out the Fight Promoter and Scaled Nightmare and added Crystalsmith Kangor, Val'anyr and 2 x Righteous Protector.   I'm not sure if it makes the deck better as a whole, but it's better against aggro specifically this way.

Faceless Manipulator costs 5 mana.  That means you can't play both Malygos and Faceless in the same turn with Emperor's cost reduction ability unless you use 2 innervates.

Nice catch. It will probably just have lifesteal or something like that. They'll probably make it an epic too xD

Well based on the art it's a legendary (edit: oops it might not be).  Given that we've already seen 2 cost and 3 cost legendary princes, this is possibly the 4 cost legendary prince (just guessing based on the art).
Edit:  TIL that the rarity color in trailer art is not meaningful.

posted a message on Max McCall on Keywords in Standard Format
    Quote from Almagnus1 >>

People are mad at Blizzard because they can goto http://magic.wizards.com/en/game-info/gameplay/rules-and-formats/rules , download the comprehensive rules, and be in awe at how many keywords Magic has, and they want Hearthstone to be better than Magic in every way.

Which is stupid because I agree with what Max said as Wild should be the repository of keywords... whereas standard should be more limited because the newer players simply haven't had time to go through all the sets in the same way that us vets that have been here since Beta have.

Completely agree.   In fact for those bringing up the M:TG comparison, a major misstep for MTG was the Time Spiral expansion, which brought a bunch of keywords out of retirement back into their standard environment as well as introducing some new ones.   Veteran players subsequently loved the set, but new players and casuals hated it because it was way too confusing trying to keep track of 10+ keywords the majority had never seen before.  The set had terrible sales because of this.  WOTC learned their lesson, and so has Blizzard.

Drake is absolutely mandatory to control wide aggro decks like Murloc Paladin.   You really should be running two of them in this deck.

I have a love/hate relationship with Earthen Scales.  It's great with Auctioneer, especially if you have a giant Jade in play.  But I sometimes sit there and die with 2 of them in my hand.   I ended up cutting one in favor of Ancient of War and then trading out a a Tar Creeper for a Mire Keeper.

Great point about the 2 drop.  There frankly isn't much to choose from right now with LOE and TGT leaving.   I took your suggestion.  I also made some other changes in light of the latest reveals.  I think Tol'vir Stoneshaper and Servant of Kalimos fit into this deck nicely.   I cut Ala'kir because I just don't have room.

posted a message on Mike Donais Part 2: More Reno Cards Unlikely in Near Future, Gadgetzan Themes, In-Dev Legendaries

Priest:  absolutely with Raza.   It will be the best Kazakus deck because of the ability to sustain itself with hero power and good healing cards.   The expansion needs to help give some proactive cards though so you don't have to rely on shadowform, either that or just more healing options.

Mage: possibly with Solia, but there needs to be enough defensive/healing cards avail in future sets to support it, especially with Funnel cakes rotating out.  If there are not enough neutral healing effects I doubt it will be viable.

Warlock:  Highly unlikely because the upside of Kazakus won't justify the inconsistency of draws in a control warlock deck.  It needs Reno to be great.
