Honestly I think magic is the cheaper hobby on the per-card basis and the more expensive on the competitive edge - excluding dedicated f2p hearthstone accounts. That being said I'd so much more happily throw money at MTG any day of the week. It's just more satisfying.
Impossible - HS cards are free unless you decide to spend money on more. You can obtain a vast collection for $0. Or, if you collect 500 cards then buy 10 packs for $20, the cost per card of you collection is much lower than if you bought 110 packs.
MTG, unless someone gives you their cards, or you rob someone, there is no option for free cards.
This argument is basic economics and it is clear that most people here have NO idea what they are talking about.
For example, the cost to produce 1 card in MTG cannot be compared to the cost to produce 1 card in HS because they are different products altogether. They dont scale the same, they dont have the same production threads once you get past idea generation. You have to physically print EVERY MTG card, while online HS cards can be replicated at no additional printing cost. So the company comparison is tricky at best.
Finally, as to which one costs a consumer more depends on if they want own all cards or not. But, even then, HS has a path to free ownership and MTG does not. Therefore, you cannot rightly claim that HS is more expensive, not on a per card basis, and not overall. Saying so is just not logical and ignores many factors that inherently make MTG more expensive.
In fast, playing HS can be as cheap as joining a Cribbage or Bridge club, or, if you are required to buy your own deck of cards and a board/paper, even cheaper.
he free pack I'll get is not worth the triggering of a preconceived hatred for something I didn't try. Why can't the free stuff meet my personal need for validation?
It's a little tiring seeing all the sarcastic replies (guilty of this myself in the past).
I'd say it was just in the presentation, especially the thread title. You were just asking for it. But, mature folks, like me, can see the question behind the ill-formed posts and are happy to offer advice.
So, that said, I'd wait until you're done opening your packs for this set, let the meta settle for at least a week then see what emerges. The worse case is that Valeera stinks and you DE rogue cards. The best case is you actually find out it's the best Death Knight and you have her!

a) craft
b) dont spend money; do dailies. I saved 8000 gold since the last expansion. 80 packs gets enough dust to craft several meta decks.
c) quit already

there are many counters to this. It'll catch some people off guard at first, but, it wont last.

it's got the most deck variety and games can be longer than some previous card sets
Some of the scenarios are frustrating, like Big Priest getting the nuts on turn 3. But IT'S JUST A GAME

Maybe you should wait and see if a great Valeera deck emerges. Maybe you;'ll be surprised.
