Another TESL>HS example: TESL gives out Arena Quests (60g) - you'd think a no-brainer for Blizz? Fail.

Arena's kinda lame. It's kinda bullshit that some of the AI opponents not only get stronger, but usually have some lame tavern brawl like rule attached to the fight making it extra bullshit, so honestly I'd be pissed if I got a quest for arena, if I didn't already stop playing it

Alright, I gave it a go. Can't say I wasn't surprised, in a good way tho. This game has some good ideas that people already pointed out like the runes.

Not surprised that people leave Hearthstone in favor of this game, but as someone who played the beta of Hearthstone, I've learned that a promising Beta can lead to something meh, I hope it won't be the case for this one but I'm still waiting for Gwent to be honest.

before the game gets flooded with netdeckers its always more fun... sure...

even still, this feels and plays a lot like MTG which never really got old. its been around for like 25 years and going strong, which is why i predict ELS will stay fun past beta and release... i also bet they will balance better than Blizz, Blizz made some awful nerfs that could have been fair balances...
I don't really know about that, but honestly I'm just gonna ride the wave until they start slowing down how fast you can get cards in the game. Unless they find a way to churn out cards I don't imagine it'll be long before a large percentage of the player base has nearly full collections, which once it does then i'll just stick to Hearthstone full time because that's too big of a hassle to try and keep up with two card games like that.

I tried ESL and it is good for what it is but... Hearthstone is not your usual online card game. Blizzard uses a lot of warm and fuzzy feeling colors, sounds, and vocabulary. Hearthstone is set apart from all other card games because it is warm and inviting and your cards feel more like characters than cards. I have tried probably every online card game that has been put out and they all feel stiff and unfriendly. The Blizzard/Hearthstone community in every game they produce invites much community even if it is negative and trash talk. ESL is trying to put their story into their game but it just feels like a card game that is faking personality. Blizzard taps into human emotion where ESL is just trying to tell you a story. I love card games, table top games, and video games, I have been playing them all ever since I can remember and the games I keep going back too have some sort of emotional attachment to them, that is what blizzard creates. I love high end strategy and ESL seems to have that, but I will always revert back to the emotional game win or lose. So my in my humble opinion ESL will have its niche players but it will not surpass Hearthstone and I believe that many people that have posted their enjoyment of ESL on this post will always come back to Hearthstone.

You are correct, HS taps into "human emotion" - unfortunately for me, those emotions are solely: "anger", "boredom", "exasperation" and "frustration" (i.e. never ending agro/SMOrc meta), not emotions I'm looking for in my gaming experience.  So far for me TESL has been a breath of fresh air, especially the anti-SMOrc runes and prophecy cards. And as a 20+ year MtG player the 5-color convention is highly appealing.
True, the honeymoon may wear off and I might return to HS, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.
You do know that TES: Legends will have the same issues as HS does one day. A ton of aggro decks and a stale meta once people look up deck lists.
It'll be worse I think, since the lane system makes it so difficult to deal with threats and limits your ability to interact with the opponent.

I thought the same thing too, but it's already becoming clear what the top decks are, and it's looking like only a few good decks are what really works. Also I feel like the dual lane system will ironically be the thing that kills the game for a lot of people. It's not as interactive as HS one lane system and you start to feel like the only way to really succeed is with these few good decks. While it tries to be better than hearthstone, really all you're getting is some of the same problems and some new ones to boot (mostly with trying to balance how much card draw you want and hoping that card draw doesn't make your prophecy cards invalid).

I decided to go back to ESL after having spent a good while away from it - my initial impressions were that it was incredibly lifeless, if mechanically sound.

This most recent playthrough has made me interested to see where it will go, at the very least. I had a lot more fun this time playing around with the mechanics and trying to come up with my own strategies, but they still haven't sorted the biggest issue for me, which is the lack of personality.

It's a very thematic game, I'll give it that, very true to the universe, but the cards are unmemorable and the story mode, while sharing fantastic art with the cards, is just as dull. I understand that the story mode is essentially a trumped up tutorial, but when it's a centerpiece of the game - literally the largest central thing to click on - I'd expect it to at least interest me. I don't remember any of the characters names, and I played it yesterday.

Mechanically, a stellar game. The art, amazing. The UI design, very well done. But so, so lifeless. At least for me, anyway. I could be too used to Hearthstone's fantastic humour and character-filled cards and adventures.

I wish they did more to the story as well, including something that didn't have to do with ANOTHER evil high elf wizard doing whatever with daedra and crap.

I hope in the future they give you an option of fighting in just one lane. This two lane business is just frustrating and i feel like it'll just frustrate people than encourage strategy

Is it weird how easy it is for people to rank up in the game? Like it just seems weird to me, also I'm not sure how much I really like this dual lane, since it requires you to always have something on each lane or your opponent will overwhelm you in a lane and you can't even react to it because your other minions are on the other lane.

Yeah that's why i'm gonna switch to imperial. I'm just having too much fun with it, though i know if i can get that enchantment that spawns tokens every turn i'll be set, that and divine fervor just equals win.

So far no legendaries for me, besides the ones i got from the story mode mission. I appreciate how they cost a little less to craft than others, I just don't find them particularly useful at the moment. So far will/endurance token is working very solid for me, and I don't believe that has any legendaries in it.

god damn it it's fun as hell. I now have a sweet will/endurance deck and somehow got three copies of Divine Fervor, so endgame i put down a 1/1 and it's already a 4/4

Thanks. I have to admit it's actually a lot more fun than I thought it would be. Not exactly like Hearthstone, but different enough to where it's pretty cool. I still have concerns to how Bethesda will take it (especially since their partnered with a very unknown game developer) but for now it seems pretty cool.

After doing some research and actually playing the game, I have to say that I really don't understand why they split the board up. I find that I'm consistently getting destroyed by the enemy through the stealth lane since I can hardly find a way to stop them from attacking me. I decided to go Nord

I am actually surprised Bethesda, which last games were utterly mediocre (not bad, just mediocre), made a good CCG. Definitely more fun than Hearthstone. Since I play HS for long time and established a solid card collection, I won't leave it completely, but surely will dedicate more time to ESL. Karazhan seems very disappointing, and doubt it will make game more fun, while ESL seems fresh and much more skill-based.

I fear it might go the way of MMDoC. Before playing HS, I've used to play ubisoft's CCG for several years, which imo was way superior to HS, but died due to shitty management (they literally broke and buried it) and lack of advertisement. I don't know if Bethesda has smarter marketing than Ubisoft. Hopefully. For some reason good MMOs die too often while mediocre ones stay alive for a decade.

How do you know Kara won't be fun? The bosses are pretty interesting, the legendaries are fun and the rest of the cards are pretty good. Yeah they kinda made a mistake with a couple but they're still learning as they go here. I have a lot more trust in Blizzard than I do Bethesda, cause they just have a really bad track record with multiplayer games and I can already see some red flags with ESL

Thanks, I needed it after having to point out how disgusting of a company Bethesda is.

I don't think anyone is going down into the gutter faster than Bethesda. Each game they put out is getting more watered down and less complex than the last. The next Elder Scrolls game is going to have about as much complexity to it as a multiple choice question in the third grade. The next Fallout game is probably just going to be a slightly interactive movie where you get to hear the voice actors talk for five hours. ESO literally keeps you from playing with friends just because you decided to be different races, unless of course you shell out extra cash to remove that restriction. So don't tell me that ESL's "Complexity" will make it more interesting because it's just going to be another one of those things that end up making the game worse because they'll just fuck it up like they've been doing for years.
