Took this deck from rank 2 to legend with only two losses. I changed boom into a black knight, as I thought big taunts could be a problem. Actually won me a few matches, but then again boom might have too.
I'm assuming it will be a while after the new expansion before they release a new set of nerfs. They are very convinced that the cards will shake up the meta, so what is popular now might now be then.
If the probability of not getting one in a pack is 99.75% (as stated in the second reply), then the probability of getting one after opening X packs is P(X) = (1 - 0.9975X). So for 3000 wins, you get 100 packs, you get a chance of about 22% of getting a golden legendary. Of course, in 3000 wins you'll have completed a bunch of dailies. But even at 300 packs, your chance of getting one is only 53%. At a thousand packs, the chance is about 92%. So yeah, they are pretty rare.
To get a better idea of how this works, I'd need to see some stats post on card packs, but I can't find a recently updated one.
Thanks everyone! Those are enlightening replies. I was also leaning towards Grom, Alex and Sylv myself, the downside of which is that Alex (and Grom, of course, but he's needed) aren't really used outside of this deck. Ysera just seems like a whole lot of fun, but something to add at the end, not at the start. Cairne does fulfill roles in other decks, but as Malanon said, I personally think Sunwalker is better in the current meta. So I'm going to think about it for a little longer, and probably go with Grom, Alex and Sylv.
Over the course of my hearthstone career, I've mainly played three classes: rogue, druid and hunter. For these classes I have all the cards that I could ever want. However, I've decided to expand my arsenal to a fourth class, and I'm thinking it might be warrior; the control variant. There is, of course, the issue of the steep amount of legendaries required. I do have a fairly decent set of legendaries already, and I have 4800 dust in the bank to make three more. With this thread, I'm trying to establish what you feel are (maybe in some sort of order) required legendaries for the control warrior.
The legendaries I feel I should additionally have are Sylvanas Windrunner, Cairne Bloodhoof, Grommash Hellscream, Alexstrasza and Ysera. Now clearly these are 5 cards, while I can only craft three of them. Well, four if I DE'd my golden Cenarius, but I don't feel like I want to do that.
So my question is, how many of these 5 do you feel I need to add to my collection, before I can start playing (with that I mean get to legendary, which I do with my other decks) control warrior? Is three of these simply not enough?
Other options are of course going for priest/shaman/paladin, in which case I wouldn't need 5 additional legendaries, but I feel like the control warrior playstyle might be a lot of fun.
As most of you know, there's a ton of really great hearthstone related applications out there (but no central place to find them?), and I was wondering if anyone has started working on something that maps your card collection. Something that could show you how many cards you are still missing per class or something, the amount of rares, epics, legendaries, etcetera. Moreover, it could have a nice export option for the purposes of forums and such, for example to help out with deciding what legendary to go for.
Now, some initial googling came up empty, but I figured I might as well ask.
The title kind of gives it away; I'm currently having a lot of trouble at rank 3 facing control warrior and priests almost every match. They are obviously there to counter the hunter, but I personally played watcher druid and it doesn't seem to cut it. So I was wondering, what do you think is a weakness of control warrior, or priest? I feel as if control warrior is reliable against mostly anything, perhaps not zoo?
not sure if anyone else has said this...but what if they gave leeroy, the cant be target'ed by spells or hero abilitys, like Faerie Dragon...would shut down some of the combos, and still be a good card i think...just a thought,
That's actually the best idea I've seen so far. It's still a 6 damage fireball, but not affected by cold blood, power overwhelming, blessing of might, rockbitter, shadowstep or any other similar burst effect.
Give this man a cookie.
I would agree with this change, if they take away the two whelps. Make him a neutral fireball that is blocked by taunts. It would be a great card still, but not as crazy. Making him untargetable while summoning the whelps means you won't play him until the final turn, which means he'll clutter up your hand until the final turn without making too much of a difference. I wouldn't play him that way.
Usually the last week is the easiest to achieve legend rank, because whatever kind of competition there was has already hit legend, so you are less likely to face good players until you reach rank 1 or something
That does seem very sensible, but sadly the weekend is only 1 day this time. Sadly for the people that don't have much time during the week, that is
I agree that if it were a vanilla 5/5, it would not be situational. If you already have a minion on the board though, playing it can cost you a lot of tempo. That's what I meant with situational, you don't want to drop it next to, say, a yeti.

Edit:
http://www.hearthpwn.com/forums/hearthstone-general/general-discussion/18543-drops-chances-rarity-by-11359-hearthstone-expert reports a chance of about 0.99445 to NOT get a golden legendary in a pack, so that is close to the number reported before.
Doing a simple simulation opening 500 packs 10^5 times, I get the resulting statistics
So the person below me, getting 6 out of ~500 packs, is pretty lucky with a chance of about 4% of that happening.

The ones I already have (that I feel are relevant) are Baron Geddon, Ragnaros the Firelord, Harrison Jones and the Naxx legendaries, Loatheb and Kel'Thuzad.

Only change I'd make is adding a Mukla to your opponents deck.

Stuck at rank 3, with hardly any time left this week. Not gonna happen I guess!

I make about 1-2 packs worth of gold every day, which I then spend. I don't go below 2k though, as I am very excited about Naxx as well.

I would personally run a commander instead of the sylvanas. They are very different cards, but it's a solid pick in a tempo rogue.

The least balanced card released so far. Pretty amazing though, so versatile
