BigDaddy13238 posted a message on Burgle Guide - 62% to LegendPosted in: Burgle Guide - 62% to LegendThis is a great deck. I just beat Old Quest Priest (Awaken) even after opponent played Amara 3 times!! Tess was CERTAINLY helpful to refill my board and give me more other-class cards to boost Cutlass. Thanks for posting!

UncleKebab posted a message on Burgle Guide - 62% to LegendPosted in: Burgle Guide - 62% to LegendIm loving this deck so much! Ive been playing Tess Rogue since Witchwood came out, but it was always too meme and weak, this deck takes Tess Rogue to another new level! I decided to try it in ranked and went from rank 19 to 14 without a single lost game ( won even against a couple of tier 1 decks) Very fun and good deck! And I love how you explained why some cards are not in this deck, shows that you've commited to it.

Scagwell posted a message on Burgle Guide - 62% to LegendPosted in: Burgle Guide - 62% to LegendEthereal Peddler's my favorite card! I don't play wild all that much - are you that confident that a 5 mana 5/6 is too slow? The thing I love about the Peddler is that it enables unusual plays in Valeera the Hollow mode. You can play two 6 mana cards in one turn (with one being discounted), or play two Peddlers and any spell 4-mana or below for free. I think I much prefer Peddler to Huckster. Maybe it's too slow if you're not playing it on curve, but otherwise...

why no scheme instead of Swashburglar?
wouldn't that give your deck more lategame potential? - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

I don't think mage needs other 2 (worse) doomsayers, however some sort of OTK priest may very well make good use of this, especially in wild, where cards like Velen's Chosen exist: having a minion that swipes the board multiple turns, starts with a good health you can buff for OTK, and that being Priest you can heal from it own damage is very strong, especially coupled with taunt cards like Deathlord that you are already running in such a deck.

It's a tricky matchup, and I always felt behind playing it, but my win rate is still well over 50%, so it's not something to be really scared at.
First, you should mulligan for Sap, especially if you start first (otherwise a coined Barnes can really ruin you. Barne's nerf will definitely help against this). Then it depends if you decide to play Vanish or not:
- if you play Vanish, then the matchup is pretty easy: they run no way to break your weapon, so once you have a strong enough Cutlass, you can trade a charge of your weapon for their biggest minion every turn, attack with the rest of your minions, and keep the Vanish ONLY for mass resurrections, which is the only real threat apart from a superfast Barnes
- if you do not play Vanish (I do not), then you are on a timer: you may still win against the first mass resurrection, especially if you have some removals and they do not rez too many taunts, but a second one will surely mean a loss. So be aggressive, both with your minions and your weapon: trade only if strictly necessary and aim for the throat. Even a simple turn 1 coined Shinyfinder can really help the race
Another tip often disregarded against Rez Priest: if they did not lose any minion yet, you may just ignore even strong (non-taunt) minions for the sake of racing their life total: let them do the trading! For example, Vargoth is surely a dangerous one, but if you kill it, they can resurrect it, and get an automatic double resurrection at the end of turn, and then you are in a pretty bad situation. Same thing with Catrina Muerte. Sure, a double Shadow Vision cast through Vargoth is not ideal, but especially without Vanish this is not a resource race! And as long as they have no dead minions, every Rez spell is a useless card in their hands.
Oh, and of course kill Barnes as soon as you can to worsen their rez pool too ;)

It's a strong late game card, but it's not a core card: it has some randomness which can sometimes work against you too. It's strong especially for recasting minion rather than spells, and then refill the board. It's also unnecessary against aggro, but very good against comtrol. Feel free to swap it with something else, like a single Vanish for instance

Secret mage is a deck focusing on burning you down quickly, that's the reason you REALLY need your Cutlass quickly, and possibly powered up too. However you also need some board presence to trade the first turns, or otherwise the Cutlass won't save you in time anyway.
For this reason, I think the mulligan (and a bit of luck) is very important against secret mage (don't worry too much, I feel like it's a favored match, much more than Highlander Mage for instance). Mulligan hard for Cutlass/Shinyfinder, and if you have one already, look for Vendetta/Underbelly.
You also need to guess a bit on his secrets, especially a counterspell on you Tinker Oil could mean death, so always bait counterspells with something like Hallucination, and don't play low health minions like Swashburglar if you fear Explosive runes: 5 damage to the face is a big chunk of your life if you don't have the Cutlass online yet.
If you manage to survive the first turns, and equip at least a 4 attack Cutlass, you have definitely won

You can't target a Carnivorous Cube with 2 of these, as it remvoes buffs from the targetted card, but overall yes. Question is: does Priest need a Terrorscale?

Aahha I knew it as against me pal! :D Yeah, jokes aside, of course I'm bitter about my pet deck, but really I can't tell the reason to release such a stealth nerf there was no real call for. I could have understood it as a broad change if it was release together with the new set, like a new approach to multiclass cards considering the new rogue cards like Vendetta and Underbelly; but this sounds like a quick and dirty change made to fix an oversight.. but was it really necessary?

I used to play a Jade/Burgle deck since last month, and despite it being not OP at all, it was really fun. With the new set I had great hopes in cards like Vendetta and Underbelly Fence, and they were indeed powerful since they were active since turn 1 if you had Lotus cards like Jade Spirit already in hand. Just for reference, this is the list I was running:
https://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/1251539-jade-cutlass-thief-guide
With the new cards the deck was pretty good, almost to the point of being a Tier 2/3 even..
But overnight, Blizzard went for a stealth nerf, and now Lotus cards no longer activates cards like Spectral Cutlass, Vendetta, Underbelly Fence or Tess.. which destroyed a perfectly fair deck. Good job Blizzards, and thanks for caring about a Wild Underdog deck instead of caring about OP Big Priest which now refill the whole board with a Diamon Spellstone + Vargoth combo. That's fair and needs no nerf at all indeed.
Sorry for the bitter words, but I see no reason to axe a fair deck with a subtle stealth nerf like this.. probably it was becuase of Arena, but still how many were the chances to get an unfair deck with the arena draft just because of this? Jade cards in arena are pretty weak anyway..
I'm definitely displeased by this, it kills the joy of a nice interaction which was no bug at all, since it worked like this since forever..

You are right, but the article's suggestion is not for maximizing your chance to get the legendaries you want, but to avoid getting duplicates of legendaries you REALLY want to get golden versions of. Just two different things, but your suggestion is absolutely correct from that point of view.

Talking about Wild, this is probably going to be discounted even if you are holding Tri-class cards like Aya. That's quite interesting!

Pretty sad that they aren't working on new game modes.. ranked ladder is dull and boring once you've reached Legend some times already.. and griding it every month takes too much. I would gladly welcome some sort of tournament mode, with deck bans included, possibly with its own ladder system!
