You can't cry over what we are going to lose when we still don't know what we are going to gain!!

     Agreed.
It will be tough for Blizz though. They have to account for the unfixed classic set and losses from the rotated sets to balance all the classes and their archetypes again.
In my mind, Blizz had this situation before and didnt deliver. Not to expect too much is always the safest bet.

Nah, I've managed to get to rank 5 with a Midrange N'Zoth Hunter me and a friend came up with, winrate with it wasn't too bad from what I remember too. So, while netdecking gets you refined decks, it's way more fun and fulfilling to get to high ranks with your own creations.

Midrange Hunter? So innovative, much new, such wow.
Changing 2 cards from the decks online = I am a deck builder now!!
That is not how deck building works.
I agree with your statement in the most general case.
In Hearthstone however I feel like there is not a big enough diversity of interacting mechanics/interactions. I'm afraid Blizz also wont implement too much interesting mechanics because a.) They are afraid that their Target customerbase wont grasp the idea or b.) they fuck up horrendously balance wise.
What is left is the latest itteration of cards with the random Tag printed on them to make things interesting, because its random, its sooo much fun XD , easy to play AND actually easier to justify balance wise.

posted a message on Why Priest Got No Love, A Theory.

When I look at the the newer batches of cards they are releasing, its seems to me like they tone down the overall power level of the new released cards.

If this assumption is true, then Priest and rogue automatically will become viable again as soon as the last power creeped batches of cards have rotated out. This would be truly a lazy approach to fix the problem, but it would also fix it in the longer run.

posted a message on What is one thing the devs always do that pisses you off?

    What pisses me off:
-their occasional powercreep on stuff that seems to be intended to fix stuff which they could fix otherwise. Like Shaman and Flamwreathed.
-their design philosophy all around. Making they game easier, the more and more childish artwork (with the new Adventure they taylor the game to appeal to the 6 years old  clientel, it seems), making the game less strategic, more RNG and minion based.
-Their interest in the communitys ideas and opinions, which seems to me is only superficial and actually non existant.

The thing I dislike about the card design is, that if it works well it might be game deciding on the back of a rng coinflip. (in minion based decks)

Could be the "super greed"-deck enabler with cards like Ysera, Sylvanas, Cairne, Rag, Y'Sharaj. Or just in a simple deathrattle deck.

In the old days, this would have given me board initiative and run the opponent out of resources.
But he proceeded to play 15 power on board and 33 worth of stats for 9 mana and was only overloaded for 2 the next turn so he could pile on even though I could address his board.

There is something rotten in the game when stuff like this can happen.

I think the root of this is Blizzards design concept of making the game minion centric plus powercreep. The game before Naxx had some mana spots where the minions on curve were mostly situational, so you either went for those or you played offcurve. This way the opponent had a chance to stabilize. This chance still exists today but the margin for "error" is much smaller, the game got faster since more power on board --> more likely to trade the damage to face not minions.
Nowadays the minions are still somewhat overpowered compared to their vanilla alternatives.

posted a message on New Paladin Legendary Card - Ragnaros, Lightlord

I like the card design number and effect wise. It seems niche usable, not universally good.

However... why rehash an already existing character? They could have easily put a image and name of a random paladin hero and it wouldnt be questioned at all.

Either they make jokes about themselves being uncreative (maybe Blizz started to cut costs at the design end) or its really just an early aprils fools.

By introducing this card Blizzard created a situation where they dont have to balance out their game (Mysterious Challenger this time).

I rate 2/10 for your efforts Blizz, way to maneuvre the game in a unhealthy future.

It's always been new cards over nerfing cards (well, at least like, 95% of the time), how are you still surprised?
I am not surprised. To me this card is somewhat uninspiring, lazily designed and a cheap excuse to not really put effort into game design.
It might be that I underestimate it...

posted a message on Blizz Community Summit 2nd Edd. speculation

Blizz invited again streamers, players as well as some podcasters to their headquaters (Eg. Thijs, Firebat, "The Angry Chicken" guys&galls, etc.).

Info I have so far: From Thijs stream I caught, that he is leaving this monday to the USA. Firebat said on his stream that he signed a contract that prohibits him talking about the new expansion. The announcement of the announcement for the new expansion is coming on next Friday.

    Here comes my speculation:

A whole week is a relatively long time. I am guessing they will be playtesting the coming nerfs to the Classic & Basic set maybe as well the coming Expansion. Maybe creating decks for showmatches like the one we saw before they released TGT. Another thing is that Yong Woo stated we will soon see a cool preconstructed Brawl again. This might be a opportunity to give a sneak peak into the Expansion.

What are your wild guesses and do you have some further information that would let us construct a more solid prediction of the coming events?

posted a message on How about a 'Standard Mode Beta'

I agree with the points you made. Especially the publicity one.

    Quote from DeadlyKittenMtl >>

The card pool would be smaller than Standard, and the meta would be completely unbalanced relative to the environment the sets TGT/BRM/LoE were designed for.

This is actually why I thought about the 'Beta Mode' in the first place. If the classic set isnt properly balanced, then all the following releases inherit the need of fixing holes that are created when an expansion is rotating out.
I meant the 'Beta Mode' only to be temporal until the release goes live.

posted a message on How about a 'Standard Mode Beta'

Soon there will be the release of the Standard Mode as well as the new Expansion.

Blizzard already indicated that there will be changes (nerfs) to some of the basic and classic cards. In my opinion it is critical that they change stuff in a way that the basic and classic card sets are balanced in a standalone manner. Otherwise they have to repeatedly address issues with the upcoming content which limits their design space (jadajada...).

My idea would be to rush the upcoming patch and release it in some kind of beta state:

    Standard Mode Beta:

Only Basic & Classic cards plus TGT and LOE.

Instead of their best bet for the nerfs (which usually meant elimination of the problematic card (not talking about beta)) they would be able to fine tune the adjustments to the cards and reiterate the nerf process until everyone is more or less happy.

    Pros (in my opinion):

-more players than they can ever hire to test their nerfs, and thus alot more solid adjustments

-with each adjustment, the meta and thus the decks would change leading to a great diversity (deck building paradise, kinda like a 'Constructed Brawl Mode')

-It would give the players the ability (or at least the illusion) to be more involved in the evolution of the game

-BB & crew could show off how capable, creative and fast they can be with new ideas.

    Cons:

    - It is additional work for Blizzard.

The problem I see is that a fast implementation is not that easy.

My suggestion how to implement it would be: make a parallel beta client which clones the personal card collection but where you cannot craft or disentchant cards. Also no rewards for playing in the 'Standard Mode Beta'. Or if they want to be generous: give every player that was involved in the testing an additional Legendary Loot crate at the end of the month (until the Beta phase is over).

How to get Blizzard doing it: Well, if enough of you guys like the idea and talk about it, they will eventually listen and maybe even make it happen in some way or the other. So... talk about it (in a constructive manner)!

And sorry for the bad english.
