Tombs of Terror Strategy Guide to Chapter 4: The Halls of Origination

Tombs of Terror Strategy Guide to Chapter 4: The Halls of Origination

Tombs of Terror is the Solo Adventure accompanying the Saviors of Uldum expansion where you get to play as 1 of 4 League of Explorers members with a new fascinating dual class system and 6 brand new treasures for each, in the familiar Dungeon Run style. The Adventure consists of 5 Chapters, the first 4 of which culminate in fighting a dreadful Plague Lord, who has a persistent health pool between fights, leading to the fifth Chapter dubbed The Finale, which is as of yet a "delightful mystery"...

End Boss:

Icarax, Plague Lord of Wrath

Every Chapter in Tombs of Terror ends with a fight against a Plague Lord. These are not your typical end bosses. They have persistent health pools, meaning that any damage you do to them persists and on your next run you start the fight with however much health you had left after the previous run and not with the Plague Lord at full health again.

The Plague Lords are tricky fights however, because at certain health points levels the Plague Lord will change tactics and get a new Hero Power, making them even more deadly. We suspect this is at 200 life left and 100 life left.

Portrait and Hero Powers

Tactics for Icarax, Plague Lord of Wrath:

For extensive tactics for Heroic Icarax, Plague Lord of Wrath, check our post right HERE

Stage 1

His first hero power synergizes fantastically with Rush minions. A single Batterhead can destroy an entire board by himself. It's best to have a way to eliminate 1-health targets since that's generally how his Rush minions will end up at the end of the turn.

Stage 2

His mission during this round is to damage the highest priorty target and execute it with his hero power. He'll prefer no to use whirlwind effects as it will cause his mana to be spent on his hero power rather than his cards.

Stage 3

Swapping stats sounds like a weird effect at first, but he knows when and how to use it to take full advantage of it. Minions that increase in Attack like Gurubashi Berserker and Frothing Berserker can have their stats swapped to give it massive health and make it exceptionally hard to deal with. He can also use it on his strongest minion to prevent it from being killed by Plague of Wrath since it will no longer be considered damaged.

Other Bosses:

If you are looking for an Encounter and Hero Power not listed yet, check our datamining HERE.

Tactics:

Earthrager Ptah: Very powerful control Shaman. He has plenty of removal even without his hero power. If not careful, he can keep wiping out every minion at your disposal. Though he tends to favor mediocre Elementals, so his minions themselves aren't too tough to deal with.

Tactics:

Isiset: Frost Mage deck, with a lot of copies of things like Frostbolt and other frost type spells. Potentially difficult fight, but much depends on which cards she draws and subsequently copies with her Hero Power. In our attempt she kept playing Duplicate first, with Mirror Image minions on the board. So there was this long cycle of her constantly bringing out the mirrior image minions and copying them with Duplicate. It was easy to deal with and build board, and then apparently she didn't have or didn't draw her AoE, cause the board went uncontested.

Tactics:

Rajh: Has a very spell centric deck, mostly Mage spells and minions, like Flamewaker and Ethereal Conjurer. Hard to tell how hard the fight is, as we were fighting him with one of Bob's Bombastic decks. The Spell damage from it's Hero Power can be quite influential with Arcane Blast and Unexpected Results in his deck.

Tactics:

Edra Druid minions to do with Nature and Dryads, like Grove Tender and Forbidden Ancient as well as her Hero Power that produces small, but annoying minions with lifesteal. Also has Wispering Woods

Tactics:

Pillager Drasar: Themed deck around Troggs. Trogg GloomeaterBurly Rockjaw Trogg and Troggzor the Earthinator all seen, as well as some SoU cards Candletaker and Injured Tol'vir

Tactics:

Battrund: He likes to summon the Ogres with high stats to take advantage of the Chapter Gimmick

Tactics:

Ilza Grimdrum: Her deck contains a decent number of minions that like to be Recruited like Injured Blademaster. After her hero power, if she wins the fight, she gets a free minion with extra stats. If she loses, she can still execute the minion that won. Has several annoying minions to deal with when Recruited early through the Hero Power, including Khartut Defender as well as some smart play with Bloodsworn Mercenary

Tactics:

Armadillobot: Very Weird deck. The Hero Power indicates Mechs, but it had a few mechs, but then also Undertaker and Jar Dealer. Not sure what to make of it. Just don't leave the Mechs up would be my advice.

Tactics:

Belloc Brightblade: I guessed that playing spells would be a bad idea, so I played none at all. His minions aren't too crazy, he has a Reliquary Seeker and a Blood Knight, presumably to play into the haughty Reliquary Blood Elf theme, but also some good minions, like Brazen Zealot, Wickerflame Burnbristle, Riftcleaver and Khartut Defender. Without spells from his opponent he couldn't do much and he was gone pretty quickly.

Tactics:

Sothis: His Hero Power summons 2x Mogu Cultist of which you need 7 to summon Highkeeper Ra. He prioritizes playing his Hero Power and is therefor easy to deal with. Minions and spells he played: Mogu Fleshshaper, Forge of Souls and Heroic Strike

Tactics:

Kyriss: Deck with Dragons and removal like Crackle and Devastate also has Bring It On!. Most notable however is it's Hero Power. It doesn't use it early on as it is expensive, but once you have 2 or 3 targets on the board that are more valuable or harder to remove, it will use it to devastating effect. He'll usually put it on the middle minion or on the most dangerous minion, and from there it will spread to 1 side, deal 1 damage and then pick a side again. Even with 2 high health minions it will just keep going back and forth untill one dies. The best way to get around this is by placing lower health throwaway minions inbetween likely targets, but he has removal to screw up those plans and still put 2 minions together.

Tactics:

Vera Ridley: Deck with some Warrior and Lackey synergy. Included Fiery War Axe, Slam, Weaponized Wasp and, surprisingly, Embrace Darkness

Tactics:

Totally Normal Jar: Deck with some zoo Warlock like build, with cursed villager and Mortal Coil as well as cards like Infested Goblin. Uses it's Hero Power on good minions to copy, like eggs or other deathrattles. Beware: It also has Desert Obelisk which, if you do not clear it, will lead to the next turn playing another and copying it, which sets off it's combo.

Tactics:

Thudd Lockspring: Has a Mech Mage deck with a handful of cheap spells.

Tactics:

Sword Dancer Sirinell: Sirinell tends to stack several buffs onto cheap weapons with great effects. These include Perdition's Blade and Candleshot.

Tactics:

Pyramad: Elemental Shaman whose deck is mostly elementals and has a few spells with Elemental Synergies.

Tactics:

Vessina: Coming Soon!
