Goblins vs Gnomes is the first Hearthstone card expansion. It was announced during BlizzCon 2014, and will be released December 8th 2014. The expansion includes 120 new collectible cards, which can be purchased for gold or real money through a new card pack.
Goblins vs Gnomes is being retired! Once the Standard format is released with the launch of the first card expansion in 2016, GvG cards will no longer be available in the Store and will only be playable in the Wild format. Cards will still be obtainable using Arcane Dust.
Expansion Information
We've organized all the facts about Goblins vs Gnomes below. If sources have not been cited, the information comes from BlizzCon 2014.
Cards
- The expansion contains over 120 collectible cards.
- New cards will all be available in the store once the expansion launches. No waiting like in the Naxxramas adventure.
- Cards are found in a new type of card pack, which is separate from the expert set. Packs contain 5 cards.
- Packs cost 100 Gold, or can be purchased using the same real money pricing structure as expert packs.
- All cards can be crafted and disenchanted by using Arcane Dust.
The Arena
- Expert packs will no longer be rewarded from the Arena when GvG releases. The GvG packs will be the new pack reward.
- All the Goblins vs Gnomes cards will be available in the card pool on release. Like before, you don't need to own them to pick them in Arena.
Spectator Mode
- Spectator Mode will be available when GvG releases.
- You can spectate games your friends are in, but only if they have spectating enabled.
- You can invite friends to spectate your games.
- You cannot see the opponent's cards if you are spectating your friend.
- Spectating a game lets you hover over elements of the board independent from your friend.
- You can see when you are being spectated. A number will display in the bottom left corner of your screen indicating how many people are spectating you.
- Two players can be spectated at the same time for Tournament broadcasting. If you spectate both players in the same game, you will have access to both of their hands.

Naxx out!!
So glad this nightmare is over.
Praise the lord secret paladin is finally done
Sneed's Old Shreader... thats hilarious still to this day.
A lil recap of what we will lose and what we will gain is incoming soon.
Every cardgame need rotation too not get stuck
I will miss this expansion but it's time to say farewell and it is overdue in my opinion. I wonder on what's up in store for upcoming expansion that will change the game as profoundly as GVG and NAX did. Some honoroable mentions from GVG and NAX.
The core of how we see any Mech deck today is gone from Standard
Neutral: Dr. Boom , Antique Healbot , Piloted Shredder , Annoy-o-Tron , Kel'Thuzad , Loatheb , Deathlord , Nerubian Egg , Sludge Belcher , Haunted Creeper , Mad Scientist , Unstable Ghoul , Zombie Chow .
Druid: Shade of Naxxramas I know it is a Neutral but really does any other deck play it?
Warrior: Death's Bite , Shieldmaiden .
Warlock: Voidcaller , Dark Bomb , Imp-losion , Mal'Ganis .
Shaman: Whirling Zap-o-matic , Crackle , Neptulon(never got what it deserved for now).
Rogue: Tinker's Sharpsword Oil , Goblin Auto-Barber .
Priest: Dark Cultist , Lightbomb , Light of the Naaru , Shrinkmeister , Velen's ChosenShadowboxer .
Paladin: Avenge , Shielded Minibot , Coghammer , Muster for Battle , Quartermaster . Ouch Secret Pala for now if ya add in the naxx ones too like Avenge?
Mage: Duplicate , Flamecannon , Unstable Portal , Snowchugger , Goblin Blastmage , Echo of Medivh .
Hunter: Glaivezooka , Webspinner , Gahz'rilla (Never got too shine who knows what wild will bring for it tho =).)
The list of gamechanger lost in Standard from Naxx which isn't listed at start of list: Kel'Thuzad , Loatheb , Shade of Naxxramas , Deathlord , Nerubian Egg , Sludge Belcher , Haunted Creeper , Mad Scientist , Unstable Ghoul , Zombie Chow .
Honorable mentions: Feugen , Stalagg , Baron Rivendare .
What i think will be power cards for wild when not considering those already stated.
Recombobulator , Iron Juggernaut (fatigue? =)) Ancestors Call ( a spell heavy deck with high and few minions might one day be viable Mimiron's Head play some mech protect them and buff the insane V-07-TR-0N for 1 turn-KO. Those are just a few of the ones which might one day be turn 4-5 KO's.
I guess the point of this post is too see what each deck will lose. I'm really exited about what's coming up in Whispers of the Old God expansion and forward, as i see the meta will be change drastic just by losing GVG. Add in the Naxx loss and change on some classic cards and this meta will be more fun as the game has really not moved too much the last months. I also think Wild will be hilarious and fun so don't dust em all =). Coming from a Vintage Mtg player. It's better too keep the OP GVG cards, instead of dust for crap value just to maybe one day have to make them again. 5 dust for common,20 for rare,100 for Epic and 600 for Legendary ain't that much really when a new legendary costs 1600 "only" and you never know what your preference will be either. It will also be smart too pick up 1st wing of Naxxramas so you can get the adventure later for some gold each wing or money this must be done quick!. The price to get the good cards is high in dust compared to 700 gold for 1st wing and then always have the opportunity to buy the rest for gold or money when wanted or just DE them if you dont like wild.
What each deck lose is posted but i wont go into further details on that as the new cards might change a lot, so it is kinda pointless to do so
but it sure look's like any mech deck, secret pala, CTRL Priest , Tinker rogue and so will lose much.
Priest's definitely the most rekt
yeah rip preist
RIP IN PEACE PALADIN.
A meta without Dr. Boom, Piloted Shredder, Unstable Portal and Imp-losion god bless. Cya fucking never again
Can someone clarify? Once standard mode hits will the G&G cards be DE for full value???
Once Standard comes you can DE cards from gvg for NORMAL value; For example normal Dr. Boom will be DE for 400 dust and cost 1600 to craft , and for golden Dr.Boom DE for 1600 while it costs 3200 to craft
***Full value DE can only happen to nerfed cards
that sux id argue that they worse than nerfed it they eliminated it from play, lets face it wild mode is going to end up a troll mode when your bored from standard. blizzard money machine keeps on chugging.
Changed card what-so-ever as long as it change the text on it so buffed cards too =p
Dr. Boom is definitely your #1 crafting priority.
For the Gnomeregan !
Dr. Balance
Dr. 7 ^^
I still like mechs.
.
Lots of good cards.
