Boss Overview
Black King is the third and final boss in The Parlor wing of the One Night in Karazhan adventure.
- Hero Power: Cheat
Pro Tips and Strategy
- You won't need to build a deck for this fight but you must make valuable plays against the Black King as unlike normal difficulty, you can't Discover new chess pieces.
- Positioning is the main component to this fight.
- He can use his hero power to cheat which gets rid of your left-most minion. Keep your Pawns to the left.
- You want to avoid having minions directly across from his when attacking, you want your minions to be between his so that they will attack twice.
- You can rearrange your own minions through Castle. Useful to move healers around and target specific minions.
- If Black Queen comes into play you want to make it a priority target.
- Black Bishop is secondary on the priority list. Letting it heal for too long will result in sad times.
- White Queen is an absolute monster. Use her to clear the board easily. Protect the Queen - you only get one!
- White Knight is awesome. It is the only minion that you can choose where it attacks regardless of its position. Keep it away from the left side of the board at all costs and use it to make effective trades.
- White Bishop is your source of healing. Keeping your White Knight and White Queen healed will help assert dominance. You can later use your hero power to move this over to other minions which require aid.
- White Pawn is your primary mulligan target. They will protect your better minions and are playable at any point in the game thanks to their mana cost of 1.
Rewards
Defeating Black King for the first time will reward you with cards!
Once the regular version of the card(s) is unlocked, you can craft the golden versions.

Took me two hours and was super fun to play.
It's like chess! If chess had a bunch of unskilled bullshit!
Your first 4 turns on Heroic need to look like:
Turn 1: Pawn
Turn 2: Pawn, Pawn (keeping the most damaged pawn on the left)
Turn 3: Rook placing him center right to deal 4
Turn 4: Knight to kill his bishop with a rook hit
The game should be won in 7-9 turns as the longer the game goes the farther behind you get. Its important to keep your knight on the far right and heal him as he will get you a lot of value, the far right is due to making sure he doesn't get hit from cheat while the far right spot only gets to attack once, so you lose the smallest amount of value. It's important that your Queen is SMOrc and never is at 4 hp so the enemy Queen can't kill it. The ending turn will result in you moving your Queen to the left most spot to deal the final points of damage. It's important to remember you are the aggro deck in this match-up and not the control deck as your hero power is worse and you have a limited deck size.

The only guide with actually useful tips to beat the boss! Thanks man!
Thank you , finally did it :)
I deduced this strategy on the first half hour of play, nevertheless is still hard turn 4 forward.
thanks man 1st try with your strat
great tips
Thanks so much! After 7 tries, I read this, and won on my 8th!
Followed everything written here and guess what:
THANK YOU for posting this. Saved me sooo much time. I literally just restarted every time I didn't get pawn, pawn, rook, pawn with knight on turn 4 like you described. It took several tries, but the third time I matched your requirements I got the win! So much RNG depending on what the Black King draws. When I won he drew only pawns for the first 5-6 turns.
After I failed to do this 3 years ago I forgot about this boss, then I got here by accident and thought to myself "hey, maybe I'll try and finally beat it?"
Got first try thanks to you.
You're the hero we needed, but not the one we deserved.
Finally did it on heroic, that fight is kinda unfair...needed to reset a few times before I had the hand that can beat him.
Here you can see how: Video
I reallly enjoyed this encounter, both normal and heroic.
It would be cool if we had a chess brawl were the minions would also attack based on their positioning.
I'm fairly certain at this point with the popularity of it they will give us a chess brawl down the line. It's such a unique mechanic and would truly be a waste of development time if they didn't re-purpose it.
This took me an 'our to beat this boss on heroic, VERY HARD, this turn 7 queens or horse into left minion + cheat your queen all the time
