The only disadvantage of mtga is that makes you loathe people.Seriously it makes you realise how dumb the vast majority of players are but they still can vote, waste resources and sometimes even win...Quite depressing...
At least in hs since everything is braindead, the opponents get the benefit of the doubt :P

Yeah, let's hate people (and society) together jainaishot, as if we were some kind of aliens or some other shit no one cares about!
XD
Now seriously, the other day, while programming a videogame (a very cool one, believe me ;)), I stopped for a moment and thought about my dear Hearthpwners, but especially about you (no homo :P). You seem to be a very creative person judging by your posts, so why don't you try to make your own games? You can start and learn a lot with GameMaker Studio 2 and then, if you want, continue with Unity (programming in C#). Believe me, it's really not that hard and I'm still astonished by the fact so few people is doing the same as me (at least in my country :P). I know that you are a very busy person and studied other career, but c'mon, I'm pretty sure inside that head are very interesting and cool ideas. :)
I can see it already: Jaina Is Hot: the CCG, hehe. XD

Oh you flatter me my brudah! I honestly would love to give a try on game creation even just to understand the basics. I Iove story telling ( i am veteran dm in dnd campaings ) and i am not new to programming either, even though my experience is on engineering applications. However as you already know because of my profession ,free time is scarce and most importanly, i am lazy as fuck. The 10 hours of work with designs on a daily basis that fry braincells, do not help either. But as i said i love the idea.
Most importantly though i would love to see what your beautiful yet scary mind will give life to.
PS: I would probably create an old school rpg instead of CCG, as card games seem to be too much of hassle without the enjoyment of storytelling.
I started to tap my fingers into the MTGA World a couple of months ago and so far I like it a lot. It's a nice breath of fresh air. A lot of cool mechanics and card interractions. I knew Magic is an old game, but still played and popular, so that means they should do something right (not like Artefact for example). Too bad for Richard Garfield. I know he is the creator of Magic and now, this Valve failure is like a stain on a snow white shirt :(((.
Yes, mana can be a problem and the mulligan is kinda "interesting", but I will still recommend it to anyone that wants to try another card game on their computers. And I've heard btw, that Wizards of the Coast are working on something for phones as well. I like how they still keep developing a game that came out 25 years ago and try to make it competitive on the current market.
Kinda sad I didn't start playing Magic earlier, when I had more time to play, but better late then never I guess. Now I am trying to build a F2P-collection by doing the Constructed events and my quests + getting those sweet 3 packs per week and some random cards. I think it is easier than HS to build a collection, but to be honest I started spending money on HS many winters ago, so maybe I am wrong. I will try to be a F2P-player now, but if I make the complete switch from HS to MTGA, then I will start tapping my MasterCard every now and then :). I think that, this year will show me if I should stick with HS or leave it for good.

Haha, that is funny, because the game I'm spending more time on is a real-time terror strategy game about vampires. It looks cute at the beginning, but it turns horrible at the end (especially if you lose, of course). XD
MTGA become terrible right now, 4 in 5 games is monored, I playing with a black and white deck and have a good match vs them but the games are boring even if you win.
They release way too much good cards for that deck, draw 2 cards for only 1 mana? 2 cards giving 3 damage for only 1 mana with a extremely easy condition? Anything don't have a solid life gain don't stand a chance.
I spent a few months playing more MtGA and less hearthstone, mostly because of nostalgia.
Today however I uninstalled MtGA and I do not plan to return to it ever again.
No matter how good a design team WotC hires and no matter how good every new set is, which they are, the fact that the game is based on a terrible, archaic and dysfunctional resource system (lands) means that about half the games played are not fun for either player. I don't have time for a game with such bad design any more.
Back to Hearthstone until something better comes along.

I wish it was that simple. However no amount of shock and checklands can save me or my opponent from getting stuck at 3, or from drawing more land than spells etc. And no amount of gates are enough to reduce the rng in limited where I cannot guarantee to have enough card draw, mana sinks etc to "fix" my draws.
50% of the time, the game is decided by one of the two players drawing a worse land/spell ratio. 50% of the time it feels like I did not even play a game because either I or the opponent did not get to do anything. This is a fundamentally flawed system.

I've played MtG for over 15 years and it is not like that at all, at least not when it comes to extremely optimized competitive decks. Then again, I must admit that land problem is more prevalent in the standard format. The further you go back (modern, legacy, vintage) the less of a problem it is. This is basically due to Wotc not giving us the best fixing because of ''muh draft experience''
I basically stopped playing...the game is fun and challenging (at least for me, having barely any prior experience with MTG), but I simply don't have time to play more than a game or two a day...barely have time for Hearthstone as it is, and the biggest advantage HS has over MTG or any other card game is that it's available on mobile; simple convenience - I can play it on the commute to work if I don't have a lot of time that day, I can play it on the bus/train when I'm on longer trips...
And what everyone else said, Land problems are sometimes really disheartening - I hate that feeling of knowing I've lost in the first few turns of the game...
I was always a defensor of HS, but lately indeed the game is loosing power, play it since start, but netdecks ruin the game, the play every single match against the same decks. I feel i´m the only one playing homemade decks, and even casual, i almost hit legend every month, but don´t have the time to farm it, and mobile it´s the biggest advantage HS has atm.
HS needed more stats ingame, after all these years we dont have a % win by deck in game it´s dumb.... and more interesting game modes.
As for MTG Arena, well it´s a fresh air, but ye has the land situation which is irritating like hell, and net decks the same, but diversity is alot better, and they reward a bit better the player. Lore is also good, but like i said, HS is a win in mobile. but when at home, Arena is the choice lately.
I like MTGA a lot but the worst time of connection issues in HS is far better than the normal situation in MTGA, the connection issues is terrible, pathetic and amateur.

I agree with most of your points, especially with the much needed ingame stats feature, but I don't think that there isn't as much netdecking in MTGA as in HS, because even in my limited experience with the game, there is, since I generally play against the same decks there too.
Can you share some of your homemade decks, you hit Legend with? I'm interested to see some, since most people who claim they play homebrews at a higher rank, are just bullshiting people to get a sense of higher worth or whatever, and their successful "homebrew" deck usually differs in 1-2 cards from the "netdeck".
So, to start. Hearthstone, for me, is obfuscated by one thing. Staleness.
However, this is a double-edged sword. MTG(A) has had bad metas too.
Now, for UI. Hearthstone wins, by far. MTG's is fine, just.... nowhere near as good as Hearthstone's.
And, last point I'll bring up is F2P fairness.
1.- And don't forget too much RNG. Staleness happens on every game out there. The issue i believe is more important here, is that 3 sets a year (1 release every 4 months) are too few, and contribute to a staleness feeling. (1st month is experiment, 2nd-3rd month meta is defined, and 4th month is "stale" enough, waiting for the next set). MTG has 4 sets yearly. Also, MTG sets have way more cards than HS.
Also, MTG allows you to mix colors, when HS doesn't (classes).
The best solutions for staleness would be IMO: - 4 sets a year, or 3 + 1 adventure (F2P's will cry about this) - Monthly Nerfs - Change rotation cycles (newest set rotates oldest one) - Rotate classic and basic, and launch v.2.0 of the, with a new mindset on policies
2.- UI is good on both of them. MTGA needs more polishing, but it's still in beta (and has been improving a lot). Also MTG plays very differently than HS.
3.- "Fairness" is difficult to balance. Both games are businesses on themselves and need people to spend money on them. The 18 month rotation policy on MTGA + wildcards + higher rewarding quests make it easier to collect cards, but also the 4 copies-of and minimum 60-card decks (in constructed) policies on MTGA makes it harder to collect them. Sadly, F2Ps are the ones that will always be behind the paying players in regards of collection.
I believe HS needs an update on this matter:
- Quests are fine right now - Winning rewards, beside the 3W-10 Gold are needed - Login rewards
My understanding of MTGA is that it suffers from draw rng more than HS. HS affords opportunity to do SOMETHING every turn, even if it's not particularly effective. There is the chance to draw none of your lands in MTGA in time to defend or counter your opponent, which has to feel super bad. Not the most likely problem, but still there is the chance to get stuck doing nothing due in no part to your or your opponent's actions.
Also, I'm not sure a poll on a Hearthstone-dedicated site will yield accurate numbers, but it's funny to see the results.

Rage quitting: the best way to ensure your opponent knows they beat a giant baby.
Ok so I abandoned HS arround 2 months ago. That is why I felt like answering your question. Started playing MTGA because, as a kid, it was my favourite thing, EVER. Obviously, I voted for MTGA on your poll. Why? First of all, MTG lore is AMAZING. I really love it, Art Books, novels (they are not that good, but the lore is awesome), card art, etc. I am waiting for the next expansion (War of the Spark) like Christmas. Its like an Avengers: Endgame story actually.
The thing I love the most, is what you can do with those cards you love. In HS, if you love Tyrion for example, you can only put one of them into your deck and it can be easily destroyed, removed, countered or anything alike. In MTG on the other hand, you get four copies on your deck wich makes it a lot more frequent to draw your card and replay it if it was destroyed and you can bring things back from you graveyard in many ways. And these types of cards tend to have big effects that makess you fall in love with them. For example, I love a card called Elenda, Dusk Rose. It basically gets bigger everytime a minion dies and then it leaves an army of 1/1 when she dies. It goes along with some minions you wanna kill or sacrifice and cards that activate effects when things die to get all the things going on and on and on. This is the decklist(https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/1594607#paper). If you read the cards you will figure out how the deck works, mostly
The mechanic feels amazing. Is it good? Not metawise, no. But it does not matter. It feels amazing pulling that stuff. I do not recall being able to do that with HS almost ever. And I Played since WoTOG.
Another thing to consider is that MTG Online sucked. Big time. MTG Arena is a HUGE improvement. I played HS because I loved MTG and it did fill that gap, mostly. Now that MTG got really nice aesthetics and a nice client overall well, I moved on.
Get my 5 packs + 1.000 gold from reward season today and finallly can complete my mono-red destroyer, having a lot of fun.
The only disadvantage of mtga is that makes you loathe people.Seriously it makes you realise how dumb the vast majority of players are but they still can vote, waste resources and sometimes even win...Quite depressing...

All CCGs have the exact same "netdeck" issues. It is the very nature of CCGs.
I will cut parts of the text, to give a more appropriate answer

Hearthstone for 1 showstopping reason: It appeals to a filthy casual like myself by having a mobile version :)
I’m not committed enough (or have enough time) for the gaming world with whole PC engagement and hours long sessions.
I can stroll by, doing my dailies and reach rank 5 at my own very casual pace, which fits me perfectly.
