........you've never seen someone suddenly snap and lose their shit in real life? At a certain point, you no longer can keep it together and all the emotions you've been trying to calm all come back to the surface and you stop being rational. I don't know why it's so hard to believe, since that's how it actually works.
Right, but they still follow some semblance of logic. She snapped, we get it, yet her "emotions she's been trying to calm" were against Cersei, not millions of innocents. If she snapped, she would have gone straight to Cersei and the red keep and burned it down. She's been trying to save the masses all 7 seasons, and you're saying she snapped and decided, I'm going to spend 30 minutes burning this city down in a rage and kill everyone I've tried to protect, meanwhile my true enemy just sits up in a tower right there and I'll ignore her?
Also, let's not forget she "snapped" right at the point she f'ing won. The city bells were ringing in surrender, she won, this would NOT be the time she would snap. If she was to snap, it'd be after Mellesendai or the dragon died, not when she won what she spent her whole life trying to achieve.
It's dumb, and just a gimmick so they can have Jon kill Dany at the end (there's absolutely no other resolution for the series at this point), and then say "see, GoT was never predictable to the end!" even though all the other shocking moments were actually, you know, seamless and in character for everyone involved, and helped /push/ the narrative instead of flip it on its head.
I get the impression you've never experienced this anger yourself. It's not logical.
Oh, I’ve broken stuff and flipped out on people. But this is like your favorite sports team wins the championship, and you snap and all of a sudden spent the next hour killing bunnies.
Turn Danny into a heel, fine. She never was my favorite (except for the nude scenes), but just make it believable and well written. And not in the span of one episode where we are all guessing what exactly happened.
I guess people who are saying that Danny flipped out with no warning didn't watch the conversation between her and Tyrion before the battle in which she burns the slavers' ships. She talks of burning their cities to ash and when Tyrion reminds her of the Mad King's plans, she says it's different. Tyrion then points out that 'we are talking about burning cities, it's not entirely different'. This is the conversation in which it is revealed that King's Landing has buried caches of wildfire, some of which Cersi uses, but some of which we see exploding when Danny razes the city.

I just can't take one episode in a vacuum, AND the cinematography was the most hackneyed set of choices ever.
For anyone who is praising the Lannister resolution, I guess we're just going to forget about the whole Cersei dying prophecy. We're going to lose any possibility that Jaime grew up in the least through the show, despite the obvious evidence to the contrary. We're going to lose all sense of any intrigue with regards to Cersei being any kind of relevant villain.
The people who are loving this episode, for the most part, seem hung up on the cool plot point of Danaerys turning mad. I agree, it could have been interesting, but you have to understand that most of the fan forums and YT theorists have taken it as unwritten canon that Dany is going insane at some point,, so we've been living with this presumption for years.
The problem is, they do it with one episode left in the entire show. How much of a villain arc can Dany have in an episode-and-a-quarter of evil time?
All of this stems from the mother of all writing mistakes, the killing of the Night King so early and easily. It's as if Sauron has been defeated, and the main conflict suddenly turns to a wrestling match between Smeagol and Sam for the fate of . . . nothing. They should have done these things in reverse order, with Dany going insane and turning on folks, and then maybe redeeming herself during the Long Night or maybe not, depending on how the writing goes.
I fully understand that people who are casual fans who have not read the book will get their share of eye candy and a few superficial resolutions of the main story line. I fully understand, not everyone is as concerned with all the secondary considerations. I also ABSOLUTELY understand that the average consumer wouldn't know character development if it flayed him/her alive. But there are millions of shows past and present that you can watch for competent, first-grade story-telling. Everything about the early seasons of this show suggested they were going for something a little more complex here, and if that is the case, they failed miserably.
Interestingly enough, as I'm typing this I am finding several videos with cast members acting really uncomfortable when asked what they thought of the finale. It appears that many of the actors, especially Dinklage and Harington, fully understand how let down some of the long-term fans are going to be.

What you said about Dany is true at the same time it isn't. The rule in the show is that Targaryans are nutcases. Dany lost her mind because she has the Targaryan gen. She was a time bomb, wich exploded this episode.
As an aside, what a shit message this is. "You'll never be able to be a better person because you're destined to be crazy", fuck off with that nonsense. Fun that Jon gets to completely avoid any hint of madness and just gets to fail his way through life.
Holy fucking shit what an absolute shitshow. I mean, I didn't expect much anymore and they still managed to disappoint.
How do you follow up episode 3 and manage to get even worse?
So we start off by firing Varys because he is the last smart character left in the show and we can't have that. Everyone is surprisingly okay with this.
Then we start the battle with some quick maths:
1 Scorpion vs Drogon = taken out of combat with one hit, taking two shots
about 5 scorpions vs Drogon & rhaegal = instant kill with triple bullseye
ALL THE SCORPIONS vs Drogon = incapable of doing anything
all the previous set up of "the odds are frighteningly even" are thrown out of the window. The entire Night King plot therefore had ABSOLUTELY NO POINT and if you ignored that it happened ABSOLUTELY NOTHING would change.
Drogon has also upgraded his fire breath to a disintegration beam that explodes on impact. There is no explanation. MEanwhile the Dothraki have learned the power of mitosis and multiplied of screen. They still fail to factor into the battle except for one scene.
Arya is determined to killl Cersei despite it being pretty clear that Cersei will not survive anyways. She immediately gets talked out of it by the HOund, who for some reason is really determined to kill his brother. This has nothing to do with his arc. He goes on basically a suicide mission to get revenge, despite him barely even mentioning it before. His entire story was about changing him from a lonely nihilist to someone who actually cares about certain people...but no, Cleganebowl has to happen. It wouldn't make sense if he just followed Arya and 1v1d the mountain to let her follow Cersei or something...nnah he's just gonna do his Mortal Kombat shit, because fuck it, his character has been dead in the books for a long time so it really doesn't matter whether he has an actual consistent characterization or not.
Also, for some reason the Mountain conveniently decides to have some desire to fight his brother despite being a braindead zombie. There is no reason for this other than Cleganebowl. Did they forgot that the Mountain doesn't actually hate his brother? He pushed him into the fire as a kid and is just a dick. He doesn't give a fuck about him otherwise. There's literally no reason why he would abandon his post just for a 1v1.
Dany goes from 0 to insane for no reason at all. There's literally nothing to provoke her. She destroyed all the scorpions and all she has to do is burn down the Red Keep. Instead she decides to do a little Holocaust just because. After all, we only have one episode left and we need a reason for her to die. Also we conveniently never actually cut to her while genociding so we just have to assume she's laughing maniacally, her hair has turned green, she has the words "damaged" tatooted on her forehead and talks about how "all it takes is one bad day"....presumably
we also get to follow some random orphans on their way to their extremely predictable death, because we have to manufacture drama somehow.
Arya has upgraded her Faceless Man game and instead of stealing faces she stole Euron's plot armor. He still had enough to casually swim up to shore and run into Jaime only to attack him for no reason. What is Euron's motivation? Previously it was that he wants power...then it was that he just wants to bang the queen. HIs character is non-existent, but apparently he's still important enough to not just get axed by the dragon.
Jon Snow continues to be useless as usual. For some reason all the Lannister soldiers still want to kill him though. His character at this point can be summed up by "I don't want to"
We no longer like Grey Worm. the Northerners are apparently psychopaths who commit war crimes the instant they have the opportunity too. Nobody tell the writers that the main reason why raping and pillaging happens is because the soldiers basically went through hell and have lost their humanity. these soldiers barely even fought anyone, they steamrolled a few confused soldiers and that's it. There is literally no reason for them to do anything of the sort, but hey, the dickless man with a hatred for helmets threw a sword so I guess it's time to go berserk.
Oh yeah and Tyrion again wanders around battlefields looking concerned
Arya continues to be punished for Killstealing and is rendered useless the entire episode. Instead, the coldblooded, downright inhuman assassin gremlin now becomes the audience stand-in to showcase the horrors of war. As a parting gift from the lord of light for doing such a good job she gets a horse to ride into the sunset. There is no symbolism. It's just retarded.

that'S probably because Jon is at this point completely impotent and unable to do anything of value.
I'm going to say this gently, and hope to not stir up stuff. I'm just going to stick to one particular aspect of the politics:
Chuck Wendig tweets: "Game of Thrones must really hate women." and replies "GoT really misread the cultural moment"
Sansa saves John in the BoB
Arya and Brienne have the fanserviest fight ever
Dany saves John and his merry band north of the Wall.
Arya kills Littlefinger
Arya kills the Night King despite having zero to do with the entire White Walker story line
Dany blows up an entire fleet and wins against the (irrelevant, but hyped) Golden Company, essentially winning the GoT (so far).
But apparently, by having Cersei cry and Dany go mad, we are seeing a very inappropriate message when it comes to empowerment.

But yes, exactly that Chuck Wendig.
My point is not at all that the representation idea is not important.
My point is that Game of Thrones has amazing female characters of all stripes. The traditional mother-bear protecting her cubs (Catelyn), the young Tomboy with support from family (Arya) and the bitter older Tomboy who got only rejection (Brienne), to say nothing of Dany and Cersei. At least, before this episode.

Yeah reality can be harsh. Some people are born with the dementia gene. Tough the effect of dementia shows it's symptons gradually over time. Maybe it's different with the Targaryans. Or perhaps she already started to lose her mind in season 7 but we failed to see it? because we saw the warcrimes she comitted as an act of justice?

Or maybe this is the ending GRRM had always envisioned, leaving D&D to scramble for some kind of connecting line that got them from the earlier seasons to this result. Dany becomes the Mad Queen because Martin told them she would, but we don't have the time or the pages to get there on a slower clip. This could be seen as a failure of D&D in their attempts to wrap up the show sooner than HBO would prefer, but much of this comes down to what they were given to work with.

Did I miss anything?
You missed Cersei and Jaime dying in the most anti-climactic way possible, because D&D once again subverted our expectations by having them killed by none other than, wait for it... falling rocks! On top of that Jaime's entire character arc is now completely ruined because he has ended exactly where he started back in season 1 when he was a completely different person. I guess he was scared of having to fuck Brienne for the rest of his life instead of Cersei who was actually good at it?
Other than that, great job, I agree with everything.
I would like to point out, ironically, that I don't believe the Bechdel test was satisfied until Dany and Sansa sat down in episode 2 of this season.
Maybe this series wasn't quite as woke as we thought.
@linkblade
Supposedly, there are leaks that the D&D guys actually turned down a larger budget because they had obligations on another project. I will be the first to admit, I'm skeptical that is the case, but if it is, what a hellacious letdown!
Still say it would be the greatest trolling in the history of edginess if GRRM releases Winds of Winter and then just doesn't do the last book. Even after he dies, people would be expecting someone to complete the book a la Robert Jordan, but it turns out George didn't even start the final book at all.

Can we all agree that the writing over the last 3 and half seasons, especially the last 3 episodes, was insultingly bad? Both in terms of logical transitions between scenes, overall narrative, and character development?
The way I see it, she didn’t want the bells to ring. That was Tyrion’s plan, and Danny wasn’t into it, suspicious as she was that everyone was conspiring against her. She wanted to have it her way and accepting surrender was to have Tyrion’s way, a Lanister. I think if you see her snapping as paranoia, it makes much more sense. Burning the city was a mad way of saying « I decide », and al your manoeuvrings to ploy my will have failed. I’m the queen. And thats been part of jer character for a long time: look at me I’m the Queen. That’s what makes her so annoying.
Is it even paranoia? Varys did actually conspire against her, Tyrion at least considered it and Jon was more loyal to the Starks than to her. Her most loyal advisers are both dead.
I think she's a control freak who feels control slipping away from her and takes this extreme measure to get it back. She knows she doesn't have Jon's charisma, she needs something else to keep people in check. "Let it be fear" she tells him, so this action may be more than just pure rage.
Her claim to the throne has been her first priority ever since she got her dragons. She did commit her armies and dragons to defeat the Night King, but only after Jon submitted to her rule.

Enjoying Americans winning in the Olympics is forbidden because it is political. A 14 plus page discussion of state-sponsored lawsuits against a multi-national corporation based on harassment, discrimination, and wrongful death allegations is apparently not political enough to raise an issue.
Chuck "Fucklechuck" Wendig, hack writer and overall waste of air and human ressources?
say it ain't so
I tried having fun once. It was awful.
Go easy Nightmare, I'm trying to get in what I hope is just an amusing anecdote without the thread being shut down.
At least, before this episode.

wouldn't worry about it, I don't think the mods really care about how much we shittalk here.
Also, imagine watching this trainwreck of an episode, thinking about it, and then coming to the conclusion: "the problem with this is how the women are portrayed"

Kingslayer Oathbreaker Man Without Honor. Killed his king before he burned the city. Thats a hero
What did Jon do? Think about it
Or maybe this is the ending GRRM had always envisioned, leaving D&D to scramble for some kind of connecting line that got them from the earlier seasons to this result. Dany becomes the Mad Queen because Martin told them she would, but we don't have the time or the pages to get there on a slower clip. This could be seen as a failure of D&D in their attempts to wrap up the show sooner than HBO would prefer, but much of this comes down to what they were given to work with.
Behold, foolish interlopers! I am commanding this mortal to spread the will of the Scourge throughout the interwebs, encouraging you to seek out me, Archlich Kel'Thuzad! Now coming to you as the tenth class of Hearthstone!
I am a finalist in this Class Creation Competition, so if you could give it a look I would be greatly appreciative <3
@linkblade
