In the GVG/BRM arena meta the average draft would have a high amount of minions that cost 2 and 4 mana. I tried the same approach in TGT and I fell from infinite status and I’ve been struggling to understand the new curve.
The TGT arena meta seems to require a strong early game to set board control and a strong late game because the games are longer. So I started thinking maybe midgame minions like four drops are less important.
Yesterday I had two successful drafts a 12 win Rogue and a 10 win Shaman. When I looked at the curve of each draft I only had three-four minions that cost 4 mana.
Is drafting fewer 4 mana minions the secret to success in TGT arena?
I think 4-drops have indeed lost some of their strength because of the new great 5-drops (like Pit Lord) which can contest 4-drops more easily.
However: I really love coining out a 4 drop on turn 3 if you have another play on turn 4. I see a lot of players coining a 2 on turn 1, but then it just trades with the 2 drop. While coining a 4 is often a 2 for 1 (or 1 for 1,5).
I think a lot of players over value coining out a 2 drop for some reason, and then run out of steam more quickly.
