I saw a thread here and decided to make one myself...
A quick introduction: I'm a married 36 year old guy with 2 children (aged 9 and 2) (so my playtime is limited) and enjoy this game a lot. I have 20 years experience with magic: the gathering, that I retired with a year ago... So I am not very unfamiliar with cardgames. I played hearthstone since just after naxxramas was released. Until now I have 1 12 win arena run with paladin... but that was over 1 year ago... after that my best run is 10 wins which occured also over a year ago... In 2017 my best run is 8 wins early january. So i dont want to say I am bad in arena... but its always nice to get better... :D
So I have played an arena with warlock, that I recorded and uploaded to youtube. I drafted with heartharena.com and the deck is located here. The video is located here and hopefully some constructed feedback will be located below...
Please note that I managed to screw up my arena at the end because I mistaken 9 mana crystals for 10 mana crystals... costing me the game... otherwise I would have bought myself 1 or 2 extra turns if i made another play...
Enjoy the video, and let me know what to keep en eye out for in my future runs...

Glad we have another blog here! First reminder is that not many people here have the time to watch an 1-hour long full arena run video, so maybe you can post some replays instead. When I read Caddage's or RPX's post, I mostly watch their loss replays to remind them of the misplays. Hope that I am able to do that here too :)
Not much for picking on your draft since Heartharena help you draft a high quality deck. The only improvement is at pick no.19 and 22 where you missed the opportunity to smooth up your curve and get a valuable ping with one drops, especially the Frostwolf Warlord over the Elven Archer pick. For the game play, I only watch your first loss to the shaman. First, I wouldn't keep Shadowflame in my mulligan because it rarely gets value in the early to mid game. Going second, I would rather keep the Abyssal Enforcer since the tempo swing it provides can be game-changing just like Flamestrike. Second, I would play Shredder plus Farseer on turn 7 to put more stuff on the board. Shredder should be played earlier at that time because you desperately need something to stick on the board. Welp his deck is really hard to beat but there's always that little something you can improve.

Keeping a 7 mana cost minion is worth it? realy? it takes you still 8 draws (or more with warlock) untill you get to turn 7... that means around 33% chance to get it... next to that, what are the odds that you will actually play him on turn 7... earlier then turn 7 you cannot cast it and there is a chance you developed a board where the abyssal will hurt you more then your opponent...
But I get your point... I just... i dont know...

Turn 2: Was it better to pick demonfire instead of anomalus with the courier?
I believe he got lucky with both the evolve and topdeck weapon at the end… Because I had lethal next turn if there was no healing, direct damage/weapon or taunt minion…
Was I lucky that he didn’t have early plays? Also watching the game back with hearthstone replays.net I see that he made some plays that I wouldn’t have made myself… like, why play jade spirit into the courier when you can also play the snapjaw...
Turn 3: I was presented with 2 very good picks… inkmaster and felfire potion… As my deck didn’t have any duplicates the solia could been a good choice, but I decided to go for the mass removal which wasn’t a bad choice at the end… Well, I guess sometimes you just have to accept your defeat…
This game went really well, the Chemist gave me a very usefull spell and there were no secrets in my opponents deck… so that was about all the luck I needed to win :)
You have a pretty good deck overall but you didn't utilize the strength of it. Your warlock deck is a control deck. You don't have good early game so you have to put small minions on the board whenever you can to contest the board. I notice you did't play your 2 drop on turn 2, is there a reason why? Gaining early game tempo is very important for this deck to succeed. You have some board clears but you lack big removals, so you have to play big drops when your opponent's board is cleared. Like you didn't play Floating Watcher when you can tap, instead you play a bunch of small minions that is vulnerable to boardclears.
Another thing is as a warlock you shouldn't tap when you can spend all your mana to play minions, since your life is a valuable resource and most of your opponent tend to SMOrc your face to deny you from drawing. Sorry for being harsh but you gotta know how to identify the strength of your deck and protect your weakness.

the 2 drop on turn 2 you mention... is that the doomsayer? yes... I thought to wait a turn more to get better value from it....
The reasoning is that I play some smalls over 1 big is that the small minions are better to stay on the board against a single removal spell... its a risk I took hoping my opponent doesnt have a mass removal...
I thank you for your feedback though... ill try to keep an eye out for these plays in the future...

Game 1: replay Mulligan choice was to ditch the cloaked huntress as I didn’t have any secrets in hand, as well as the adventurer as I don’t see it as a real 3 drop… well.. the kraken was certainly not a 3-drop. On turn 6 I just wanted to play a couple of cards to get the adventurer out of a mech-range…and yes I am aware of the excavated evil/holy nova danger. The secret he played on turn 7 was either a freezing trap or a snake trap… but ended up being a snake trap.
Game 2: replay Although trying to make the best plays every turn, it seemed my opponent had better plays and that giant hyena was painfull… I waited to play the multishot because if I did play it, he would have got the same amount of damage to me after playing the hat from his hand… after a thought, i should have played it, because if he had a beast it would be over… anyway, it would be over no matter what I did….
Game 3: replay Mulligan choice was simple… I want a curve… 6 does not fit in my curve… Turn 4: After a lucky hit in my face, I could clear his board with multishot… things would have looked a lot different if he traded… Turn 6: Freezing his wraith would make his minions cost 1 more too… so instead of him trading with him and reducing the costs of his minions back to original cost… Seemed like a tempoish play to me… don’t know if it was super smart to do so… But also this play would have me have lethal on the next turn.
I got very lucky in these games I guess :)
Game 4: replay Turn 2: Taking cruel taskmaster seemed like the best choice here… Turn 4: After looking at the replay I think the best play was the frog here, but at the moment I was playing I wanted to drop a big guy to force some damage through… Turn 5: That lucky spellslinger healing potion… wow… Turn 6: When I saw that big guy, I decided to go all-in face… to kill him before he would win the face-race… Turn 7: Trading would have been a better choice here to not let him kill 2 minions from me… I would miss 5 damage to the face here maybe… but eventually I could do even more if I just traded… Turn 10: The idea was to spam the board with minions… kraken would get 1 extra health, so he has to ping him if he wants to kill him, then he cannot ping my 2/1… Turn 12: I lost all hope on winning when he gained another 4 health… gg I guess…

So, here are a few thoughts...
Game 2: I didn't like the Heropower on turn 5. I'd prefered to drop another minion and try to get the board. Your deck is an aggro one and you still have enough cards in hand.
Game 4: What about coining out a 3-drop on t2? Informant just draws a crad and dies to Wyrm. It is not helping you on the board. You are already behind. Turn 8: Maybe try to kill the opponent's minion with the toad? It's a coinflip... Thoughts?

I could have played the toad, but he would have been an easy target for the owl... didnt want that... instead I wanted him to do the thinking there and hoped he would make a mistake...

Probably a better play there... i agree after rewatching....

As played the cloaked huntress is an easy target for the owl. It can only kill one if there is another minion. In the end it probably didn't matter. The beast synergy on your opponent's side was really huge.
Another point I just noticed: Turn 3 Zipgunner dies to eaglehorn. Better play Huntress instead?
I think as a Hunter you should mulligan as aggressively as possible. Like when you are going first, you should always throw back anything except 1 or 2 drops. Also, Huntress is always a better 3 drop than Zipgunner, just because that extra health makes your opponents much harder to remove it. I understand you want more value, but in the early game tempo is much more important. You really want your minions to get the board early because you have no comeback mechanics as a hunter (example is on turn 2 you would want to play a 3/2 rather than a 1/1 that draws you a card). Another thing is when you vs a priest, you should not leave him a situation for a free trade, since he can heal up or buff his minion and kill yours for free. When you realize you cannot both do good trades and keep your board at the same time, you should start going face because that's your hope to win the game before he can stabilize the board.
Hi Ibraman! Here are a few thoughts of mine about your replays.
Game3, turn 8: Didn't like the Sentinel + Zapomatic play. With the spell damage totem up the Sentinel may just die to a Lightning Bolt or something similar. Maybe Chieftain? If he kills the taunt with his minion, you can finish it off with your weapon.
Game 6: That was a close one. Your opponent always seemed to have a good answer. One thing about turn 4: What about buffing your Razorfen Hunter with the Dwarf and kill your opponents dwarf. Then run your boar into his Harvest Golem. This would result in you having a 4/4 on the board and your opponent a 2/1.
Overall: I think you put too much hope in the Jade mechanic while drafting. Most of the time Jade spirit was a dead card in your hand. It's just too slow. You didn't have any Jade card to play before Jade spirit. So almost always it is a 3/4 worth of stats for 4 mana.
Yes, you both have valid points... "Jade's are fun... soooo fun...." so thats why I picked all the jade cards possible... if I would have picked more, I could overwhelm my opponents with jades... unlucky not to draft enough... as for the plays... they seemed so right at the moment... rewatching them makes my brain hurt :(
the trade in game 6 was just wrong... I admit.. I just need to not make those trades again... try to get rid of the biggest minion he has on board...

Don't worry. I fell for the Jade stuff as well... Once! I think to make Jade shaman work in arena one needs some Jade Claws which is not very likely because of the rarity.
If you like to try Jade in arena it's probably better to try it with Rogue. The Rogue Jade cards are good stand alone cards in my eyes. If you don't get the synergies, it's not that bad. Jade swarmer: worst case 2/2 in stats for 2 mana. jade shuriken: worst case 2damage for 2 mana. And both are common cards. Maybe you can combine them with other cards: turn 2 Jade swarmer --> turn 3 Unearthed raptor. But that's the best case... Also Jade spirit is better in Rogue because it could be used multiple times combined with some bounce cards: Shadowstep, Brewmasters, Ferryman...
But that is only theory. Don't rely on this mechanic. It needs a lot of synergy. I learned it the hard way as well... :)

I have had a great jade deck... with less then great results... Ill see if I can find the video... its pretty fun :D
Game 2: I felt sorry for this guy... 2nd game and second time that it seemed like I had all the answers :)
Game 3: I made some risky plays, but you know what they say... high risk high rewards :P
Game 4: Ever saw a warrior play a Lay on Hands? I did!
Game Five: another game went well... Still not sure if I did the best play on turn 9... I could have silenced the taunt, removed the divine shield from the 2/2 and kill the 6/2 with my 6/5... and draw a card... that way he would have a 2/2 and a 1/3 on board, while I had a 4/3 and a 6/6 on board... next turn he could kill my 4/3 using his 2 minions... But after watching the replays and seeing he has that abyssal in hand I am happy not to made that decision.
Game 6: This guy had all the cards... After picking kazzakus I needed to draw 1 copy of implosion... but it was well hidden somewhere in my deck :(
Game 7: Well... An aggressive warlock... pretty unlucky for me :(
Game 8: Turn 2: I started off lucky with the shot on the bartender... Turn 5: Doomguard, or was my play the right one? Turn 7: still holding on to the doomguard, maybe I should have cleared the board here... Turn 8: dont mind the too quickly played removal... I forgot to attack... I was too exited! Turn 9: It was this moment I realized... I should never ever ever draft doomguard again... Turn 11: This was a well thought turn, playing the taunt and killing the 3/3 letting my 9/7 with 1 health alive and next turn I could ping the 9/9 after he heals and attacks my taunt... Turn 12: Here you can see why I love hozen healer so much! Turn 13: I didnt know what he had, so I decided to put an additional minion on the board in case he has a holy nova I still have enough damage to kill him next turn... boy I am bad at math! Turn 14: I choose the wrong minion to trade... I know... so please dont mention this brainfart of mine.
Game 9: Very nice starting hand... Turn 2: I coined out the 3/3 because I thought he was going to kill it with his heropower... (I should stop thinking) Turn 3: sniper because it will definiately get rid of the divine shield and keep my 3/3 alive next turn... Turn 4: keeping the pressure up... Turn 5: should have been the implosion on the 1/4 and finish it off with my 2/3 Turn 6: this turn shows how lucky I am... 33% chance for failure... (also, draw or not?) Turn 7: abyssal would have killed me if I played him, hero power and attack was enough for him...
I will update this post every time I play a game...
The run has ended...
Stay tuned for a new episode of failure with KrishnoIbraman me!

(I should stop thinking)
Turn 3: sniper because it will definiately get rid of the divine shield and keep my 3/3 alive next turn...
Turn 4: keeping the pressure up...
Turn 5: should have been the implosion on the 1/4 and finish it off with my 2/3
Turn 6: this turn shows how lucky I am... 33% chance for failure... (also, draw or not?)
Turn 7: abyssal would have killed me if I played him, hero power and attack was enough for him...
I will update this post every time I play a game...The run has ended...
