Hi everyone, just a question that popped into my head today. Was wondering how many Hearthstone players spend money on it, and if so, how much? I myself have spent around $30, just to re-live that feeling of opening a ton of packs at once that I used to love in my Magic: The Gathering days.

It kind of makes me cringe when I think about it after the fact, but I've spent around $500.
I don't really regret it though as it gives me countless hour of entertainment, and has for nearly a year now.
The way I look at is, when I am bored and go for a night out with friends, I can easily blow a few hundred and have nothing to show for it the next day besides a hangover. But when I spend $ on a hobby and/or something I enjoy that gives me repeated entertainment I feel better about it,
I also like to support free to play games if I spend alot of time on them, which I spend a lot of on HS.
I also am addicted to gambling and surprises, so opening packs is exciting for me.
I have no plans to spend anymore until they come out with an expansion though.
@whoismiked: I completely get where you're coming from, both regarding seeing the spending as an investment in our entertainment (vis-à-vis blowing it all in one regrettable night), and the excitement of opening packs. I've just spent another $20 on packs, but I'll try to keep it to a minimum, perhaps until the next expansion.
@Angr_: Your point about setting yourself a budget is actually really good, though I don't know if I'll be able to stick to it :P I used to think that digital purchases were inherently worse than physical purchases, but now I'm not so sure. It's a lot easier for me to access my collection, and storage space is practically nil, as compared to my tons of Magic cards taking up space at home.
Thanks for the replies so far, guys, good to know that there are others who similarly value games as I do :)

The thing is, I have plenty of money, honestly, but I havent spent more than 50 dollars, because especially in this pay to win format, I almost feel like spending some huge amount of money is cheating. So when i consider my spending, its not really about the money, its about maximizing fun.
And I think its fun, slowly improving my deck. Getting all excited for finally getting that 2nd azure drake, or another legendary or whatever. Like, if i blew 300 bucks today, I'd know for fact that id have all the OP legendaries, all the strong rares, etc. no fun in that. Then Id probably just be climbing the ladder with the same cookie cutter deck with the same legendaries as everyone else.
I was going to spend 50 more bucks on packs when beta ended, but Im thinking ill hold off until they either expand the number of cards, or they offer some sort of new offering.
I've spent maybe $50 as well between packs and arena entries (at first - now I earn enough gold to get them for "free"). Definitely worth it. Like whoismiked said, I've gotten many hours of fun from the game, so I feel like it's a worthwhile expense. $50 *maybe* gets you a new AAA game (or a couple on sale), and you might get 40-50 hours of entertainment out of those. I've probably played a few hundred hours of Hearthstone and I just got into the beta in October. Super value!
I'm looking at $80 here, like the OP I like the thrill of opening new packs and unlike MTG (or at least the MTG I played in the late 90's) you can get multiple rares. I'll probably spend more. In some ways the game has actually saved me money because I was thinking about buying something here or there and I was like oh no, that's 15 packs right there.

Free to try and find a game, dealing cards for sorrow, cards for pain.
I spent $20 when I first started playing. Then I decided I wanted a bunch of cards available, so I bought 40 packs. Since then I've made 2 $20 impulse purchases, I've also opened 30 packs from gold-purchased arena runs.
I've actually been very lucky in terms of getting good legendaries, but this is really more than I intended to spend on this game, especially since Blizzard collects sales tax on digital purchases, unlike iTunes or Amazon.
You can get legendaries without spending a cent. And what others do with their money is their business. It's not p2w - there's a few well known players, like Kolento, who haven't spent on the game and reached legend.
My main account, I dropped approximately 120$ on. Most just adds up over time when I get bored and the ability to pay as well as the excitement of opening packs gets a bit too accessible.
My second account, I paid no money, but unfortunately it got slightly boring for how I prefer to play and experiment the game. It was more of an experiment with how far I can get using a basic-only Mage deck. It sits at rank 9 atm, unfortunately you can't play control without sustain when the opponent has no minions to control as many Hunters can simply lock me down and whittle me into burst range.
around 100 to 120 dollars, and i regularily make sure to get my gold to open packs. I don't arena these days. I own around half the epics and just over 1/3 of hte legendaries
