Welll it depends. It has the magic stat numbers: 5 attack to take care of most 5 and even 6 mana creatures being played and it has the health to survive their attack stats as well. Yes, it doesn't have an immediate effect, but only time may tell its use.
I think Pit Fighter will see some play. It fits snugly in a very interesting spot relative to minion stats. There is nothing else like it in the game, and 5-mana really isn't too much to soak into something that trades on the board. 6-mana becomes a bit prohibitive, but I really don't think there are all that many decent 5-drops. It needs to impress on people that it does more than Sludge Belcher, is more useful than Spectral Knight, is more relevant than Azure Drake, and can somehow coexist with Loatheb. I think that's not too much of a stretch.
Yeah if nothing else, pit fighter is a good budget dude for newer players. Not dying to flame canon +ping or second death's bite charge is pretty good.

I would honestly be ecstatic to be wrong. It just seems like current decks want synergy and this has little of it. With the new inspire and joust set ups it doesn't look like this is going away, although it may not be bad in a joust deck I suppose.

If vanilla didn't exist you wouldn't enjoy chocolate as much as you do!
Pit Fighter?
Give a man a Murloc, and he'll eat for a day.
Give him a Murloc Knight, and people will hate him.
Arena only is my bet.
