Ok, so I just went through the tutorial, finally unlocked all classes, got Jaina up to level 10, and won and lost a few games in public play. I'm kinda clueless just playing the deck the game forced me to learn first so I don't really know what I should be doing or how to build a deck/what classes to play.
Would it generally be a good idea to reach 10 with each class to unlock more cards? I just keep spamming my classes against the practice Warlock.
Strongly recommended.
You should also check out the "basic" labeled constructed decks in Icy Veins Hearthstone. Obtain all the basic cards for each cards, try them out, see which class you would like play and develop, and then decide on what to do.
If you are completely new to card games, check out the "why am I losing" article there too. It covers a lot of mistakes for new players that might not be as intuitive as one perceives.
Another site I would recommend is Tempostorm. Superb site for Hearthstone news. I particularly enjoy reading through their Meta analysis to figure out what people are playing or why a certain card is played, etc. Since I don't really have much time to play, sinking time into research seems faster than just playing the game.
Edit: An ugly truth to CCGs (collectable card games) is that you need to sink money. Now I don't wanna start a quarrel. If you are joining this game day one, probably F2P is fine. If you are just trying out, there's totally no need to spend money too. But if you wanna enable yourself to do more, have more options, sinking money becomes required. Of course, there are different ways for you to do this. Look for advise before spending, and you would have a better experience.
To learn the inside outs of the game, look up budget zoo decks. There are some very cheap ones that are out there, even if they are not optimized.
Learning to play that correctly is a good way to learn about board control to achieve victory. Against most matchups, board control is what wins or loses the game. Efficient trading while maximizing your damage dealt is what you need to do. From there you can start to see other decks and learn how they play. Start to pick up on what you like and look up budget decks for that.
The Trump videos were extremely helpful. Since watching them I haven't lost a match as Jaina. However, now I'm starting to wonder what to do with my gold, until now I've just been buying basic packs. I also have a golden card I unlocked, not sure what that's about but yeah...
Still finishing out other classes. So far I've enjoyed the mage the most.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Trump Teachings on Youtube are very helpful
Just got matched up against a guy with Illidan Stormrage and Dr. Boom while I don't even have my basic cards for the class completed. That was fun.
