Why the game does not have a chat?. I find it a bit strange. I mean, chat with your opponent (which is not on your friend list). and .. is there any way to know the name of your opponent? in the case you want to talk or something.
For first no offence (they do not need support for that)
For second the enemy cant spam u the whole game (that would be horrible)
Anyway we have emotes
I see, but, They could just add an "Ignore" option or something like that. and we could easily have a proactive chat, and not only express ourselves by 8 (i think there are 8) emoticons only.
I´m not saying the chat is something relevant, I just think is weird that you can´t have a conversation with your enemy. lol.
I don't want a chat interface as I know it would mostly get abused by people shouting insults, threats, or filling it with infuriating inanity like "lol u mad bro, l2p n00b" (my blood boils and I feel dirty just typing that). It may sound cynical, but if you've ever played something in Warcraft with co-operative group chat (raid/dungeon finder, PvP) then you'll know what I mean :p
It was mentioned in the other thread that the game is also being developed for iPad and that might affect the implementation of adding a chat feature (bandwidth, adding keyboard overlay to type etc.).
I have no objection to there being chat in game, purely as long as there's the option to have it turned off or constantly muted. The only time I'll want to chat in game is against friends, where we'll probably use voice chat anyway. A lobby is different, I don't see why there can't be one, but I personally don't see the point of one in a game like this.

yeah, a chat should be fun. Some time the game can become boring... so a chat will save us. With a option to leave chat (or simple close) if some trash talk start annoy.

Actually, I agree with you now, even with an ignore or mute option it could lead to blood boiling things "lol u mad bro, l2p n00b"" as you said, it gives to both players a bad experience of the game. (Omg, just remembered league of legends ranked games chat, makes me cry). your right about those things. and as you said, a lobby chat is still a good idea.
It's mostly to stop insulting and BM that has been creeping around their other games for a while now, I think it also stops the easy spreading of OMG YOU PAID TO WIN that will inevitably pop up when some dude pulls a bs and gets a pack with 5epic/legendary cards at once and are accused with them buying packs till it happened, poor souls. Q_Q
Didn't they say they didn't want to have chat because it would keep it more "casual" so people can just play a game without worrying about anything else? You can talk to your btag friends but not your opponent unless they happen to be a btag friend.
I like emote system, prevent rages and abuse on chat, less work on blizzard report topics about toxic players.
For a game like Heart I do not think a chat system is that necessary, especially with how they said they developed for Pads (iPads for now). That would constraint the UI even more...
It was mentioned in the other thread that the game is also being developed for iPad and that might affect the implementation of adding a chat feature (bandwidth, adding keyboard overlay to type etc.).
Well the bandwidth thing for the chat feature is a bit bs... It does not consumes much more than what the game client is sending about your cards and your moves... They could easily implement a limitation buffer to make sure a player does not spam the other.
But in the end I still think a chat feature is not necessary as there's not much to say aside : Gl hf, GG WP (Good Luck Have Fun, Good Game Well Played). It's like in SC2, for all the games I played more than 75% of them had toxic comments when I was winning.
well global chat would only contribute towards hate and rage spam in a game that lasts max 15 min, think you can talk with your RL battlenet friends thats enough for me.
Given the vitriol of people in Blizzard's other games when they've started to lose, I don't think it's a good idea to have as a default.
However, as a caveat, I would like to see some sort of easily-disableable General chat function on the lobby screens, because there seems to be a very much single-player vibe going on until you get a match.
You can chat with friends, but anyone you do not have added on Battle.net will only be able to exchange emotes with you. Hopefully you can add people who play well and talk to them after the match though!
The original battle.net has an infamous reputation for the vitriol of the chat in matches. I learned all kinds of exciting new racial slurs and insults just by watching my spouse play WC3 games. Some people would enter the game already shouting epitaphs before anything had even happened, without any rhyme or reason.
I'm sure that's why. They probably want to avoid that. It's practical for them (then they don't need to hire people to go through chat logs to issue suspensions and whatnot), and it's probably more enjoyable for us if our community builds on moderated forums instead.

From what I've seen on streams it looks like you can see your opponents name in the top left of the screen.
I see, but, They could just add an "Ignore" option or something like that. and we could easily have a proactive chat, and not only express ourselves by 8 (i think there are 8) emoticons only.

Oh! I see, thanks.
From the pace of games, chat is not needed in the battlefield, as for a lobby that is another story.

This came up on the official forum.

Would be way too trolly anyway, people already spam the emotes and offensive gg's as it is.

Really, people are already abusing the emotes and the GG in the beta? Erf...
Yeah, some sort of lobby (for each game mode) would be great. The game kinda feels dead without any other chat function aside from friend list.

I would like a chat, if don't want to use just turn off.
