considering what noxious got out of those 80 packs and what the gold earn rate is I'm actually disappointed at the progression myself. 100 dolars for 80 packs but now noxious is ahead of the race. No matter how much I try by the time I get that many packs normally he would have finished his collection. I know it wasn't noxious's money I'm not actually directing my anger at him, he did say he couldn't afford it regularly so he actually helps me prove my point. I'm using his packs as an example saying people with lots cash are not gonna be bothered with 50 dolars for 40 packs. They are gonna open 80 packs exatly like noxious. But's it's also so much that students like me can't afford it much. 50 dolars is exaxtly enough to piss me off be cause I can't buy it but a lot fo people can and will making me look like a newbie.
Even the old 4 wins for a booster pack progressed faster.
Personally I expected somewhere about "play 6 games to get enough for a booster" but even the old system converted to gold would also work perfectly fine. It would mean an average of 12,5 gold per game, with higher or lower award depending on win/loss. That would mean an average of 8 games per booster and 12 games per arena fee.
But yeah, this got to be temporary. They are probably working on a way to give an award each game, despite win or loss. Still having to WIN to get gold makes it quite pointless to implement gold into the game
Big difference on "giving feedback on the game and asking others for their opinion" than "bitching about it"
Still, 100 wins for 100 gold? That is about 200 games for just "5" additional cards for your collection. Gotta be a placeholder until their new system as the game is barely worth playing other than dailies and for "fun" unless you have money.
Indeed, if it is only 5g for the 5 wins that is abysmally low. So low, it would be more worth it to save the daily quest gold until you can buy into arena, then play arena and hope for the best, because if you win 7 times, you get at least 150g back. And even then, thats 7 minimum games for 1 pack, along with the other rewards. The actual pack rewards should at least award one every 8 or so games outside of the arena to even be competitive, since arena will always award a pack, as long as you win a few times ( more than 3 would be ideal) you win back 100g worth in the pack, and then more gold per win you accumulate. Why bother with play mode when arena gives you completion for daily quests, at least 1 pack, gold, dust, and xp, all the things play mode will get you at 1/10th the time.
I can understand putting it lower to prevent people from trying to play play mode only 24/7 and getting packs every 4 wins, but at this rate its just too low. I believe the will tune it to be more packs per win that 1 per 200. What that final number is, only Blizzard will know. Maybe they think that you are supposed to do the daily quests on all the heroes in order to earn packs. But up to 2000 minutes of game-play for 200 games at 10 minutes each, for 1 card? That won't work out well.
I was wondering about gold earlier purely for playing Arena, I didn't even remember that you need gold to buy the packs to build up your collection. That's a really low amount and quite disappointing.
I have no problem with Blizzard charging for things in the game, I don't begrudge anyone with enough luxury money/impatience for buying what they want and I have no problem grinding for things - but there are limits. If it's one gold per win, that's just way too low. Off the top of 'my head, I'd say 20 gold per win would be a minimum for what I'd be happy with. A card pack every 5 wins or Arena entry every ~8 doesn't seem too bad.
If the gold earning is too low, I can't see myself entering any Arena matches for ages purely because that'll be 15 cards every 2 Arena I enter, and I'll want to be buffing my collection as quickly as possible (for free) so that I can have fun deck building and playing with friends.

I definitely ran in to progression issues. Mainly due to my low budget. If I were to purchase say $10 boosters per week, (as I have so far), then the progression still feels slow once that initial $10 of boosters have been cracked open and then i'm back to the 5g per 5win "uber grind"
Well, particularly i think Arena is the Core of the game, right now.
And for that, they need you to play it, because it is the way they make profit with the game.
If you could go Play Mode and develop your deck without paying anything, it would not work for them.
At Arena, at least, you have to pay a fee to enter. And i believe it is why your rewards are just above the average when you play Arena (if you win 50% if the games).
So, until they develop another tournaments modes with a fee, i guess we will have to bare with it.
And, c'mon, if it was fast to complete the collection, no profit as well, so we will have to spend a little money for that.
That is why the matchmaking rank is about your entire deck collection, so you don't get so frustrated by meeting other people with extraordinary cards in the games.
The success of the game relies on the creation of other features (tournaments, expansions, etc), or Ipad players will just get bored soon, because there the environment is so fast, there is tons of apps to download, tons of games, etc.

Keep in mind you get 40 gold per daily (some days have more than one daily [Edit, it seems the firsr day we had 2 due to servers, may not be true for normal days)
I think the gold progression is way to low myself, but I think 10 or 5 per win would be in the better range than 20, that would indeed be to high
1 Gold per win seems.. temporary.. but me myself? Will probably play The Forge ALOT since its going to be much, much more interesting imo, though I'll be held back pretty hard by the 150g buy in :(
However, I don't have a key :'(! I'd been looking at my email for weekkkkkksssss hoping something popped up.. disappointingly disappointed.. sigh! Hopefully this doesn't turn out like Diablo 3 and I don't get a key until 2 weeks before beta ending.
Hopefully this is only in effect for the Beta and not launch. I can't see how they expect players to win hundreds of games for the chance to open a handful of booster packs, it just doesn't make any sense. I'm going to give Blizzard the benefit of the doubt here and see what happens.
I really hope blizzard reads this forum, there's many interesting perspectives on how to fix this problem.
I believe the ratio should be a bit higher, 3 gold per win 1 gold per loss. This seems fair and still makes it challenging to climb.
EDIT: Also I would like to add that the arena should yield more than one pack possible. 1 - 3 wins = 1 pack, 4 -6 wins = 2 packs, 7 wins = 3 packs, 8 wins = 4 packs, 9 wins = 5 packs! This makes sense to me only because winning 9/11 games is incredibly challenging and should reward the players who accomplish this with more opportunities at legendary cards, but still deprive them the opportunity to queue again as they have WON the arena and gained the grand prize!~ In order to buy in once more would require more Play Mode wins!
They need to make you able to win a free pack (without quests, that a plus) in one hour and a half of play, or two hours top. 5 golp per 5 wins is pretty discouraging.
Dont forget the game plan is F2P with Microtransactions so for them it's logical :P
Part of the issue is that the Arena in its current intended state ques you against people with the same number of wins. Getting Grandmaster Key with its rewards is supposed to be very difficult for that reason.
They have said in previous blue posts that your unlocked arena awards are intended to give you enough to re-enter the arena however, thus making it a viable game play mode once unlocked.
Keeping the Arena with a cost ($2 US or 150 Gold is current I think) was really just supposed to keep new players out til they complete basic card runs on the various heroes. Otherwise they would end up being cannon fodder for the players familiar with the game.
On a side note, the Beta will at some point be open, the $2 fee for initial Arena entry is less cost then your average iPhone application (cheaper then Angry Birds, Plants vs Zombies or any of the add-ons for either game) and you get a golden disenchantable legendary card.

Leave your frustration and anger here...
Seriously though, I hope this is a temporary beta thing because it absolutely kills the progression.
Ways to progress in the hearthstone beta:
#1: Pay Money 10/10
#2: Dailies 4/10
#3: Winning 0/10
