Unfortunately this. It is still the best Taunt by far. Good chance it will always be the best.
Reason being is 5 mana is the best spot for a Taunt. And for 5 mana, it is about as strong as it can get. Can't ever see them making a 5 mana Taunt that is better. SB's 4/7 combined stats are already amazing for 5 mana, and the DR makes it even better than a simple 4/7.
Anything less than 4 is too weak for a Taunt, and anything more than 5 costs too much to be used when you need it and to be able to combo with other 2-5 cost cards when/if it gets late in the game.
That said, I would love to see an alternative Taunt. It almost has to be worse, due to SB being so strong, but if it was atleast comparable, or offered some situational advantage I would be all for playing it.
I always thought they should make a SB counter card. Something like a 5 mana, 5/4 Taunt with Battlecry: Silence a minion. Would be a direct counter to SB yet the 4 HP is not the best for a Taunt so it has it's obvious weakness. Obviously has the strength of silence though. Would offer a real choice, and reason to not pick SB. SB would still be the best taunt. But this new Taunt w/ Silence would be a tech choice that could bump SB in some decks.
Another option would be to make it a 2/7 Taunt with Battlecry: Silence a minion. Would still be somewhat of a counter to SB, but wouldn't be able to kill it with one attack. Would be a much stronger Taunt as 2/7 though.
Many options, but hope they give us something, so ready to use something other than SB but not many other choices.
One thing I think we could all agree on is that they should speed up the DR animation. It takes way too long for the DR to spawn. They have speed up other animations due to them taking too long, I see no reason why they shouldn't do the same for SB. Especially since his animation speed is worse than most of the things they've already worked on.
If dragon decks become viable, you could use Blackwing Corruptor for a midrange, tempo deck. And Belcher will probably still be the staple after BRM for midrange decks that want more control.

People will be running Blackwing Corruptor while only running 2-3 Dragons. The card is that brokenly good.
Dont think so. The 5-6 4 mana dragon eats it so easily. Dont tell me u're going to play your belcher into a 5-6 dragon played the turn before just to see it die for nothing. Cards that actually eats belcher like loatheb and shield maiden, it's kinda ok because they cost more mana. This dragon might means the end of belcher, but the meta is supposed to slow down so maybe taunts are less needed.
I don't think that we will see much less from him after BRM. I hope that one day there won't be any auto-include cards anymore because there should be enough good cards for all mana costs but BRM won't be that day.

Who can take your trash out? Stomp it down for you? Shake the plastic bag and do the twisty thingy, too?
It will be exactly the same. The issue with HS is that unless new mechanics are introduced, no amount of new cards fundamentally change anything about the game. Nothing can weaken or invalidate any other card because if that happens (outside of a new mechanic(s)) then they have weakened or invalidated every existing card. Aside from new mechanics or limited formats value cards will still be value cards. 5/4s and 6/4s are actually not that great, they are basically an even trade for a SB and it requires two turns for a single card. If/when something does a silence+kill at the same time, death rattles will always add value.
most Card games have Lanes which you use to block, In Hearthstone you don't have any Lanes and when you do create one its easily removed with iron beak owl i believe they need another way to block lanes in this game or agro will always rule the day

I do understand what you're talking about, but actually don't get the lane-thing.
Are you referring to the way we defend from incoming creature/minion damage?
It is still good to put a halt onto aggro, no change there.
Main threat to it is when all the midrange decks and control decks start running Hungry Dragon. Hungry Dragon can trade with both Belcher AND the one drop it provides no problem, and if it survived it can take out the remaining slime too.
Nevertheless it is still one of the best taunts we have, unless BRM gives one with an awesome battlecry.
Seems like it won't go anywhere due to stickiness. On a related note I only just found out that Sludge Belcher says "Tums feel funny." when it's summoned.

I was thinking about what would happen to the (playability) ( i know thats not a word lol) of SB after BRM comes out on the 2nd
Im not sure if its going to be as good as it was. Cards like Hunger Dragon and Volcanic Drake make it look so weak.
Just wanted to see what you all thought.
Hearthstone is a game of "copy and pasting"
It will never lose value, ever.
Not really gonna look weak tbh, it's a great sticky taunt. Personally i'd still play it, we'll see anyway.
Perhaps one class will have greater dragon syngery than others and it will use azure drake instead of belcher in dragon based deck but thats it.

I think that, as Blizzard adds more minions that trade unfavorably with it, Sludge Belcher may become more of an anti-aggro tech than an auto-include.
This is a very possible scenario. I too was wondering about Beltcher's future, let's just wait and see.

I'm hoping for more deck variety with BRM :)
