I'm Rank 5 with 3 Stars right now; this is by far the best rank I’ve ever reached and I’m proud to have made it this far. I've been making an effort to rank up on the ladder this season, only playing one deck and making small changes to it as I see fit. I am playing a face hunter and yes these decks are very divisive in the community right now, I get hate messages after some games from time to time; however I feel it does require skill, a good knowledge of the current meta and knowledge of the possible decks each class could be using.
The grind to Rank 5 was very hard at first, I, at one point, lost about 10 games in a row, however I’ve updated the deck based on how I felt some cards were preforming (removing cards like Piloted Shredder, for faster one drops and toying with cards like tracking) and over the course of the last week, the climb has been fast.
Is this due to how late it is in the season? If I pushed, would a climb to legend even be realistic?
Good question. I find that in the last five days of the season the ladder can be packed with great decks as people work on climbing up the ladder. Wonder if any stats exists about win rates per calendar day of a season. My guess there is so much randomization in match ups that the rate can be fairly consistent and any one player's experience is due to small sample size.
It's possible though ranks 1-5 are no joke and win streaks no longer count. Most seasons I finish at about rank 3 or 4. Congrats on getting to rank 5 btw.
The reason why it gets easier is because during the season players from ranks 25-6 are advancing towards legend. You might ask why they are advancing if there is a win and a loss in each game, it should be even. The reason is win streaks. A player will receive an extra 3 stars for a 3 game win streak, but there's no equivalent penalty for losing 3 games in a row. Therefore all players are (on average) moving towards legend as the month goes on. That means if you have a 50% win loss ratio, you will be very slowly advancing. But at rank 5 bonuses stop for win streaks. That means you need to win more than 50% to advance at that point.
Not to take anything away from your rank 5 accomplishment though. You have to face harder and harder opponents as you rank up.
Not to sound mean or anything but rank 5 is pretty much as far away from legend as rank 10. As soon as there are no win streaks anymore the game totally changes and it gets much harder to actually climb up

Oh that's not mean at all; it's true and that's my worry. I've moved up to rank 4 (0 stars after a loss) and not having the winning streaks bonus is already making it a pain.
I'm new to the 5 to legend push so all the feedback you guys have given me has been great. Thanks.

Yeah, you really should give a try. It's an experience but I hope you are somewhat rage resistant. I also make my first push to legend, I never cared about the grind so I usually played to rank 4/5 and then stopped playing ranked for the rest of the month or just 3-4 games a day. I'm flipping my shit left and right at the moment and my win rate is going down hill.
I like how practically the whole paragraph was almost a defense to you choosing to playce Facehunter and your questions was simply one sentence at the end =P
In all seriousness though, the first week is generally tougher because everyone's ranking resets and you'll often play against people with a higher skill set. Also, new decks come into play that you may not be familiar with. As the mont goes by, the extremely talented players will hit legendary quicker, thus leaving you with a truer vision of where you fit in.
Stop caring about your Rank, only care about making the best plays possible. Then it won't matter when you play for Legend because it will be super easy once you are really good at this game. Getting to Legend is a cake walk when you are a good player, hard part is playing for Top 100.

I'll look out for that. Thanks.
It is odd that I felt like I had to defend face hunter. I've played it since before naxxramas and I've always had fun playing the deck. I guess I did because there are people who feel that players that use face hunter are lesser because they perceive the deck to be cheap. (See comments above) In the past I just had the mind set of playing fun decks on ladder to complete quests, focusing on the climb has led me to only using the deck I felt I was best at.
I guess I shouldn’t feel the need to defend myself or the deck for that.

People just don't like hunter. It's nothing personal but hunter is still the most disliked class for what reason ever. It's just annoying to play against them, but you don't need to care about that. You play what works and you like.
In my experience, the first week is usually tougher because all high rank and legend players are climbing, second and third week is best time to climb and final week is rather tricky to climb because there are tons of aggro decks that are trying to rush to legend.
Generally speaking, rank 5 to legend takes as many games as 25~17 to rank 5 because win streak is no longer available. If you're playing a face Hunter, you should expect playing twice amount of games from rank 5 to legend. Face Hunter is not a "no-brain" deck but skill-cap is very low compared to other decks. Face Hunter slowly loses advantage as you rank higher and your opponent gets better because you're already reaching the skill-cap of the deck but your opponents can continue to improve their play. Still, you can reach legend if you grind enough games given that average face Hunter game only take 6-7 minutes.
I just reached legend for the first time. It took something around 500 games for me, and it only took me about 100ish to get to 5. So let's see... So my edge is probably pretty low. 215-185ish would mean I only have about a 54% win-rate rank 5 to legend. Never played as much as I did this month. Proud but a little worn out. Good luck.
The last day that I was playing, where I played over 100 matches to get from rank 1 to legend, over 2/3 of them were against a legend ranked player and some of them pretty well known streamers (and no I did not stream cheat).

Grats! I've played several famous streamers and Its nerve wracking and exciting because you know so many people are watching your game. I only log into the stream afterwards to see their reactions win or lose.
OP, I've found it hard to hit legend at any time in the month due to all the factors included. It takes patience, skill, knowledge of your deck(s), knowledge of the meta, and a little luck to get there. GL on the grind and post if you make it!

Yeah I used to get nervous when playing against a well known player, but this one last day I was playing against purpledrank, massan, sjow and at some point I just realized that even if they are better than me, it doesn't mean I can't win. So I just played within reason, and I won 3/4 (probably with some luck of draw)

It definitely gets easier as the season starts to end.
