I was close to legend for months, but during Boomsday, when Giggly was still 5 mana, I punched through with Mid-range shaman. According to HSreplay, the archtype I was playing was the worst Tier 4 deck on the list.
I reached legend on the first season after game went out of beta, when the card back was out.
Free to play player, I played hunter face deck with Unleash the Hounds. I play without crafting any card but I made an exception there and crafted one of the only 2 cards I ever crafted: Leeroy Jenkins. The other one being Whizbang the Wonderful much later.
Good old times, now I struggle to reach rank 15 :)
Redemption Paladin in Whispers of the Old Gods. Basically a N'Zoth Paladin, but with the addition of the secret Redemption and a bunch of divine shield taunts like Sunwalker.
My first and only time was with a meme recruit hunter deck that had good potential against any matchup due to an adaptive playstyle. Against aggro taunts, tempo and deathstalker were relevant. Against combo tempo and burst (cheating out the big minions as fast as possible) were relevant. Against control lean back and enjoy the ride cause that was probably the easiest matchup with the deck.
I don't think I will find a deck that suits me that well again - A jack of all trades is hard to come by and potentially bad for the game. Also I will never reach legend again cause what would be the point - it is too much of a grind to be fun and I would rather just have fun.
That was a month after the launch of Gadgetzan. Good old Renolock untill rank 2-3, and then Reno Mage for the final push to counter all the aggro shamans that represented 40% of the ladder at that time :P
This year before the standard rotation happened with Miracle Rogue, with Fire Fly, Myra's, Fal'dorei Strider and the Miracle Core like Edwin, Sprint, pre-nerf Prep, etc.
It was even more fun and rewarding, because it felt like a skilful deck and a deck that, if played right, had at least a slight chance to win against all the other decks at those ranks at the time.
I am trying to commune with future me to find out, but I'm not getting any answers. Should I be scared...? What if the terminator got me?
Right now with Highlander Mage on the last day of the season :)
Even after CC and Pocket Galaxy nerf (still use both)
First time was Naxx with... DEATH RATTLE SHAMAN! Yes I'm a bit of a saddist but what a fun deck to play and strategize with.
Big priest in WoToG standard
