So I was checking the winrate of Highlander Hunter vs various archtypes on Hsreplay.net. and I noticed that it's best winrate is against Control Warrior by a long mile. It loses pretty hard to Murloc paladin, which might be the premier deck after warrior nerfs... So I'm just curious. All I need to craft is Zephrys and possibly Siamat for Highlander Hunter but I am hesitant since the Warrior nerfs are coming. I foresee a drop in the winrate of this hunter deck since Control Warrior will be less frequent on ranked. Thoughts?
I traveled into the future and visited the mythical land of hsreplay and came back with this knowledge I will share with you now.
Murloc Hunter becomes the only deck to beat every other deck that has ever existed in the world of Hearthstone. The deck is called 'Murter Hunloc' and it is a powerful force that has yet to be reckoned with. Reno decided to retire at the site of all the murlocs and is now called 'Reno Retired'. He just shakes his fist at the murlocs when you play him and all he does.
No one knows what became of Zephyrys. He just blew away one day.
The future is a dark place and a murloc reality we must not let happen. NERF ALL MURLOCS TO THE GROUND before they take over.
I think warrior will still be one of the most played decks, the changes to doctor boom won't really affect the warrior vs aggro match ups as warrior has so much early game removal the game is already over before they even play doctor boom. Plus the number of mages will go down which will benefit control warrior. The only class that really gains from the Dr boom nerfs is hunter imo.
Siamat and Zephrys are pretty safe crafts anyway if that's all you need to complete the deck. I can see both being used in a decent amount of decks for the foreseeable future.
its really hard to say but i think it will see a lower win rate, its strong not only against warrior but also against mage and priest being a really good meta deck right now but not an all powerfull deck in any meta. it does have pretty decent matchups across the board so it will still be a solid deck.
Zeph and Siamat are safe crafts, though I'd lean towards Siamat if you want something that can go in many different decks and you don't necessarily want to craft highlander decks. Zeph is the better card, but Siamat goes in more places, so if dust is an issue, go with Siamat for now, but get Zeph next.
We'll have to see if the Warrior nerf matters. If there is a window for more aggressive strategies, I think the could make life more difficult for Highlander Hunter.
Like, the deck will still be good, but it'll have fewer "gimme" type match-ups/
This nerf doesn't change a thing about the behavior of Control Warrior players.
There will be just as many of them, and Highlander Hunter will even beat them 1 percent more often because they have to wait two more turns before changing faces.

So Control Warrior is no where near dead. Matchups that did well against it will perform slightly better. Matchups that did poorly have MAYBE a chance. Otherwise to address your murloc question: I don't lose to Murloc Paladin as Highlander Hunter. I took out the tutor cards (elemental draw, mech draw, etc.) because their winrate for playing is relatively low. They don't necessarily do anything for the turn, just the game, which is terrible tempo. I put in classic Hyena, Springpaw, and more aggression. I hard mulligan for a usual hunter early game: Secretkeeper, Springpaw, Hyena, and Unleash the hounds. It is usually a win unless they Power curve in the first few turns and I draw poorly.
I think this nerf just buffed Highlander Hunter into the absolute unit that Hunter was with Deathstalker Rexxar.
I mean, if Murloc Paladin becomes a thing, it just bolsters warrior.
Warrior doesn't give a single fuck what Dr. Boom's casting cost is when it comes to fighting murlocs.
Warrior DOES give more than a few fucks what he costs when facing hunter.
Therefore, your best matchup just got buffed (for you) and you may not even see a commensurate drop in percentage of play.
HOWEVER, for that scenario to come true, your worst matchup will increase in percentage of play necessarily. So, just depends on if you can handle the grind. Hunter strikes me as one of those "chance to run anything over" decks, so I imagine it will do fine.

I have been playing control warrior, and probably will continue unchanged after the nerf. I can't imagine I'm alone. I say craft away.

Thanks for all the insight. Now it's just a matter of time till we see the long term impact of the nerfs (or lack there of)
