I'm just wondering why actually no one is playing Raid the Sky Temple ?Just before the expansion I thought this could be one of the best quest in standard as it allows to go infinitive and gives big mana discount so weaker spells are still good. If I remember correctly Nefarian from Tawern Brawl had similar HP and some people were saying, that is super hard to win agains it.
You can't discover cards which means you get a random discounted one.You need to play a lot of low cost spells to make complete it as soon as possible to get a reward that lacks compared to the other quests. The only way I could see it work is if you have Dune Sculptor stay for a few turns on the field so that you can generate value but you would need the assistance of secrets such as Splitting Image and Spellbender to do that.To conclude the quest is a pain in the ass for a really mediocore reward
I thought mage quest would be good as well. Unfortunately, the reward just isn't impactful enough. Mage has gotten way too many cheap spells in the past few expansions for the quest to provide enough value. Getting cards like Elemental Evocation and Tome of Intellect feels really bad and loses games.
Mage cards also generally do better things than just generate one random spell a turn. The effect isnt worth the card in a list that is as packed as giants/cyclone mage is.
And as previously said, the standard mage hero power (the 1 damage ping) is extremely good even in the lategame and helps the class a lot. So losing it isnt exactly great either.
It isn't very good. At least the decks people are playing with it aren't very good. Small spells that aren't very effective just trying to complete the quest without actually being productive on the board.

I'm not sure; the mage quest is really fun. It's certainly more fun than the other mage quest... The only person I've seen playing it is my brother in law :p It can't be compared to the nefarian/ragnaros tavern brawl, though. Nefarian was OP there because he also started with more mana AND the spell it created cost 0. Ragnaros couldn't win unless the ragnaros player was top tier AND nefarian got at least a little bit unlucky.
I'm playing mostly Singleton/Highlander/Reno Quest Mage and it's a lot of fun! With good opening hand i'm often am halfway quest on like turn 2 or 3. Dune Sculptor is an Insane, and often game winning card! I'm also wondering why no one else is playing it, considering it counters Control Warrior pretty hard. (In my experience at least, currently 8-0 against control warriors) Perhabs people don't like this quest because they dislike RNG? Personally i really like RNG because it makes every game feel so much different, despite playing the same deck.
I'm nut a huge fan of straight RNGing myself to victory. I've been playing secret mage and wrecked every quest mage I've seen. Even with a god hand who cares if your quest finishes by turn 4-5, it rarely does anything useful right when you get it.
The reward itself is extremely underpowered in comparison to other quest rewards. You get a 2 mana "discount" after paying 2 mana. It's like a supermarket deal that says: "Buy 1, get 1 for the same price". You don't actually save any mana on the spell you get. And if the spell costs less than 2, it actually becomes overcosted (technically) - though obviously that's alleviated by the card draw.
That combined with the fact that the spells are random and there are so many terrible and useless spells you could get in any any given situation, just makes it rather poor. Perhaps if the spell you got was changed to 0-mana, that might help. I'm not sure it would make it a lot better though.

I played it - it is quite good - I wonder why no one is playing it aswell.
To much rng
Not so impactful, you loose a card on the start which is an issue for hand size (giant reduction ) and slow vs aggro.
Mage now prefers minion based decks (Reno, Pocket Galaxy) and therefore the quest is not suitable.

Something unappealing about losing the best standard hero power in the game.

Check out some of my decks:

Because its bad.
I think most people knew that it would be bad. It's an expensive condition, with a bad reward. It's an easy slot into cyclone mage but it's pointless.
Galaxy is braindead
Life tap is far superior.

Those spells are completely random. many times they would just occupy your hand space. And Mage already plays with almost full hand most of the time.
It is straight worse than delivery drone of Dr. Boom. And the only prerequisite is drawing Dr. Boom.
Reno Mage as well as Cyclone Mage have sooo many better options so you do not have in your deck space for mediocre card at best.
After all most of the time this new hero power (instead of valuable ping) reads: "spend 2 mana every turn on memes."
Only Hunter or Warrior quest hero powers are similar trash.
At least Mage does not need quest reward to be competetive and Reno Mage is super fun deck to play and strong on top of that.
Do a good mana cyclone and that's Probably worth pushing that button 8 times u get from completing quest.

Because Mana Cyclone exists for when you want lots of random spells in you hand fast. So why would you ever bother with the quest?
