As title says, I’m considering coming back for the newest expansion.
I’m concerned that that I won’t have any of the most recent cards, and won’t be able to make competetive or fun / unique decks in standard. After Knights of the Frozen Throne, I stopped playing. Up until that point, I had a complete classic set, and had a majority of other cards from the sets. I also had all adventures. I played a good bit of arena and brawls, too. I would usually spend over $100 dollars on the release of new sets to get a amount of cards or dust.
Since then there have been a few new expansions, which is what is putting me off. If I return, I’ll probably buy a ton of packs for the newest set. However, I’m afraid I’ve missed so many expansions now that I won’t be able to catch up without spending ludicrous amounts of money.
After checking the sets active in standard now are Witchwood, and Rasta’s rumble. We have the new one coming, and then maybe something in December. I don’t want to splurge on the newest set since I’ve already missed half a year.
Any thoughts or suggestions? I do play standard competitive decks, but I mostly like standard or wild with my own custom decks. I like to have a lot of the cards to make decks, use Legendaries, or use new mechanics or tribes (like dragons). I don’t know how much I’ll be able to do without a sizable investment
There's a guaranteed legendary within the first 10 packs of each expansion, so feel free to at least buy packs (one by one?) for each expansion until you have those.
Beyond that, see what you'd like to play most. I don't believe you have to splurt and buy packs, in particular when you already have a full collection up until KotFT. You could also focus on Wild until you have a good standard collection up and running again.
Either way: just make sure you're having fun with the game first, that's the most important part.
I left the game for a while and when I came back I discovered that I had a card collection better suited for Wild rather than Standard. Over time your collection will fill in the gaps but yes, consider starting with Wild. The environment can be harsh and even broken at higher ranks but there's a lot of variety in the double digit ranks and it can be a lot of fun.

Dependable loan sharks since 1960. We sink our teeth into every deal we make.
We lack some major info. How much dust you got? How much gold? How much money you are willing to invest? How much time you got to play the game? All those are factors worth mentioning in order to get solid advice.
Don't worry too much. From Witchwood there aren't that many meta-defining legendaries now that Baku and Genn was sent to the Hall of Fame. Rastakhan's Rumble is trash, don't worry about it. If you're going to buy packs from previous expansions, you should really focus on Rise of Shadows and Boomsday Project.
Hey all,

Welcome back! (maybe, I guess).

Also there is now a feature that autocomplets the best possible deck with your collection.
This expansion looks really strong so you probably won’t have to craft a lot if u open 50 packs or so.
Play Wild!

Play Wild or buy BDP, RoS and SoU packs. WW and RR doesn't see much play.
