Foreword: I want to know how many other people, like me, stopped playing, stoppad paying or simply stopped caring for this game when this expansion came out. I am not interested in people that still like the game, fans and supporter of the dev team that usually pop up and say "who cares?" or similar posts. I understand you're ok with the game. I just want to hear from others and their reasons for giving up the game.
I have been playing this game since beta and I have bought several hundreds of euros of packs and packages. I even have a TESPA back (as well as every other back I could get). I tracked every pack I opened using both software (for statistics) and an Excel (where I kept track of all missing cards, all legendaries found, the timer since last legendary found, the percentage of almost anything I could come up to etc). I was a collector and I liked to see my collection grow. I started feeling the game was losing quality with the increase amount of rng, the declining quality of the overall cards art, the amount of money it became necessary to spend in order to complete my collection. I never liked the idea of "wild" vs "standard" because I think I am entitled to play the cards I paid good money for. I also never liked the change from the old 2 small expansion (that very cheaply I could buy and get all cards) and 1 big expansion in favor of 3 big expansions (collecting became impossible platyng for free). Brode leaving was a bad hit too.
But I kept going, enjoying some game and going on with my collection. Then RR came out: the amount of duplicates I found was astounding, the legendaries I found had a worse than usual per pack opened ratio and the expansion felt pretty bad. I was almost fed up, when this expansion came out along with Year of the Dragon. It was it: I gave up. I had several packs and gold (that converted into other packs) and opened them all. Found 2 legendaries: I felt I couldn't care any less, I kept track of nothing, didn't update the Excel. That's it. I am done. I will keep playing the game because it is still fun. I am still watching Trolden videos for their quality and following good quality sites like this one because I want to keep following the game to some extent.
What about your experience? Do you have any hope for the future of this game?

Those who are given more in life, must not cling to it, but risk it all at every moment!
You've given up but still playing the game? That's a strange way to "give up".
I never understand the point in these posts. I mean it's a game, so do what you like. Don't play it if you don't want to. There are literally millions of other things you could do instead from playing something else to taking up basket weaving and everything in between.
I saved up as much gold I could manage before the launch to avoid spending too much money on the new expansion. I just bought the 9-pack + arena ticket deal. I got somewhere around 30 packs in total. My results:
I'm really excited that the new expansion is here, but I just spent everything I have on packs without getting decent cards. It seems like I'll be watching everyone else play it while I'm grinding towards a decent deck.. Just as in the last expansion.
IMO, this game depends far too much on the legendary cards (that you will never get) instead of fun and creative deck building with cards you can afford...
1. You don't have enough money to keep up with the game. That's a shame and I agree that HS is very expensive. But a lot of people seem to enjoy the game as F2P so maybe you can find a balance in between.
2. Card Quality - this is entirely subjective. You are entitled to your opinion though no matter how wrong it is. However I completely disagree.
3. Wild and Standard - when this was first announced I was super unhappy because I had spent a fortune on packs to craft golden versions of all the good cards in the game. BUT, it was the best thing for HS without a doubt. The format has to be kept fresh and it was either rotating sets or having to print more and more powerful cards to make sure people played with them. This wouldn't have worked and we would be seeing the same archetypes all the time with only a handful of cards from new sets.
The people who say Wild is full of 'Cancer decks' probably don't even play Wild. The format gets better and better as time goes by. Sure, there's tons of broken stuff but there's broken stuff for all classes so that kinda balances things out. I play between ranks 15-5 and see such an awesome variety of decks from tier 1 decks to homebrew stuff. It's a great format especially for those of us who started early enough to buy those early sets.
4. You got unlucky with Legendaries in RR and you're now sulking and feeling hard done by. Well, it happens so get over it.
I've been playing for nearly four years and I am enjoying the game more than ever right now.
i'll never stop playing hearthstone, i have been playing only since the release of the death knights, but having said that i did buy packs from "knights of the frozen throne' till before "rise of Shadows". going forward i said to myself ill just be mining gold and playing with the cards i really need and craft some i really need.........i feel its just to expensive.
I will keep playing the game because it is still fun. I am still watching Trolden videos for their quality and following good quality sites like this one because I want to keep following the game to some extent.
Just like you, I also quit Hearthstone starting this expansion. Just like you, I will still play Hearthstone because it's fun. Just like you, I will still watch Trolden and visit Hearthpwn. And next expansion I will probably post here and share with everyone why I quit Hearthstone. Please know, that you are not the only one.
I would enjoy HS going into a more complicated route from the casual direction it has now. Giving more tribes (like treants, nature) giving classes (assassin, archer, etc.). 3rd mode with mixed expansions old and new like arena now.
I’m walking in similar shoes. I play since naxx came out, preordered every bundle since WoTog.
This expansion felt like a lazy, put something together in 5 minutes expansion for me with all the reused cards, lack of exciting mechanics. For some people, it is great to reuse iconic characters, I just did not feel like it.
So with this expac, I stopped paying. My reasoning was that if I want a tier 1 deck, those are usually not expensive (like midrange hunter) and I basically only play wild, so I can craft that 4-5 cards which’ll be used there.
I’m not saying the game got worse or anything, I just don’t seem to enjoy it anymore. I’m not hyped for the new expac, to the extent that I haven’t even opened any packs yet.
I’m still gonna do quests every 3 days, try arena with the new set of cards and looking forward to the solo content. It just not what it used to be, but that’s completely normal. Expectations changed, audience is changing and you change too. Not enjoying something you did before is completely normal i believe.
I stopped playing shortly after the last expansion after playing the game since it's initial release. Hadn't touched it in 4 months until a couple of days ago. The time I gained to play actual video games for the first time in years was liberating and made me happier. Not having to deal with RNG, playing everyday, dealing with the ladder, and not having fun wasn't missed. Nothing has changed, ridiculous top decks everywhere, answers to any card you play, and fun being outlawed is par for the course. I'll give it a week or so but I'll probably go dormant until the next expansion.
I was about to quit for good when I saw this expansion first introduced. I was one of the people complaining here that it looked even more lazy and half-assed than rastakhan. Rise of shadows looked so freaking lame I couldn’t believe it. However I did not follow the rest of the card reveals at all so when I finally opened my packs today I was surprised that there were some actually cool cards I was seeing. Ex. Whirlwind Tempest, Walking Fountain The card quality isn’t THAT bad as I previously thought and nowhere near as useless as rastakhan. There is actually GOOD cards this time albeit a lot of cards have boring already used text. Overall I still think they are not trying as hard as they used to; but there is always wild and the new cards seem KINDA fun :P (some of them) so I might come back in a little bit if the new meta seems worth it.
Still enjoy but stop playing as much because I get too worked up and anxious, but I really enjoy Arena.
Anyway it seem you're upset about your pack opening, so I am curious were your packs openings that good before they changed it to no legendary duplicate after un'goro?
I can't even comprehend the premise of the original post.
I have been here since the Beta as well, and with the possible exception of Knights of the Frozen Throne, I can't remember a more enjoyable debut of a new set. There will always be netdeckers, there will always be people whose deck you can quote to a card in the first two hours of play . . . so what?
I can no longer spend money on the game where once I spent thoursands. I bought 90 packs with gold and have been able to do most of what I wanted today. Granted, I had to exercise a bit of restraint in not crafting the Joybuzz/Vareesa hunter combo legendaries, but something tells me that deck won't be around in a week anyway.
The free to play model is very workable; it requires a little more patience than the pay to play model, but that's the price we pay when we can no longer support the game financially.
I agree that RR was a very lackluster set when compared to many of the debut experiences we have seen over the years, but nothing could be further from the truth for RoS.

Helpful Clarification on Forbidden Topics for Hearthstone Forums:
Enjoying Americans winning in the Olympics is forbidden because it is political. A 14 plus page discussion of state-sponsored lawsuits against a multi-national corporation based on harassment, discrimination, and wrongful death allegations is apparently not political enough to raise an issue.
I don‘t realy understand why everyone has to share that he is quitting hearthstone. I quit tennis a couple years ago (no new expansion for ages!!) so what. After a couple years, everything can become boring and your priorities in life might change aswell. Play other games, do something else and you might come back in a couple months/years!
Blaming unlucky packs and general CCG mechanics is a little cheap. I mean what do you guys expect? That Team 5 reinvents the game every 4 months?
It will be strange, but i enjoyed HS in RR meta, yes, huntards and baku shit, but they could nerf them. and it will be best meta in the game. I m not playing ladder 1.5 years and played a bit in this time. Now, again, so borring, awful deccks with stupid aggro, stupid rng bombs shit, secret aggro shit. I know, it's only day 1 and maybe meta will be better, but for now, i m out with this game, except single player, this thing i m waiting
Meh I didn't really go crazy with rr but odd dragon warrior was pretty fun. I am experimenting with a big lock with things like darkest hour and bertrug right now.
I don't play hs like my main game tho, I think the game is more of a pastime if you have like 20 mins or maybe an hour to spend, or you are like on public transport.
It's fine if you want to play less, after all if you play since beta you are bound to get worn off at some point.
For example I play enter the gungeon, I went crazy when I started playing it, now I just go for a run or two when I feel like it, still enjoy it even if I play less. No need to obsess over these things...

I'm with you on this one..
I saved up as much gold I could manage before the launch to avoid spending too much money on the new expansion. I just bought the 9-pack + arena ticket deal. I got somewhere around 30 packs in total. My results:
2 legendary cars: Scargil and Archmage Vargoth
42(!) duplicates worth 320-ish dust. 8-10 of them was Soul of the Murloc
I'm really excited that the new expansion is here, but I just spent everything I have on packs without getting decent cards. It seems like I'll be watching everyone else play it while I'm grinding towards a decent deck.. Just as in the last expansion.
