So why rise of shadows? I have been thinking about it and that the name of the expansion doesn’t really go with the theme. It is set in Dalaran through the eyes of a bunch of amateur villains amongst themselves The only real “shadowy” character is lazul and she’s not even the leader. My only guess is that maybe once they pillage Dalaran maybe lazul will betray everyone for c’thun or some shit xd I don’t know :P What are your guesses to what it could mean?
It's an expansion focusing on the rise of a new threat in the form of the League of EVIL (or whatever they're called), and the beginning of the evil plot they're going to enact over the course of this year's remaining expansions. Remember - this time round this expansion is part 1 of a three-part story, so the name is meant to be very prologue-y.
The thing is, you still havn't seen the second class legendary, or neutral legendaries, In the video from yesterday where they revealed 3 cards, that dude with stupid hair hinted those evil "bosses" have some legendary plans. So i expect something strong is yet to come.
Shadows are evil i guess. If they were the league of shadows it would make sense
Except then WB/DC comics might have issues with the name because League of Shadows is also the alias name of the League of Assassins from Batman lore. So my guess is Blizzard was trying to be as "uncopywrited original" as they could and this was the result.
Any names referencing Violet Hold may be being held for the adventure modes coming with the expansion, We'll see.
Dalaran is a floating city and the thieves must rise in order to reach it. They area called shadows because they are thieves. Thieves and assassins are often in shadow guilds because they can't be official guilds due to their illicit nature. (I'm just making stuff up)

They are EVIL. And as Voidlord says "Darkness Rises".
Maybe the next chapter will be called "Fade of Hope."
Mmmmmmm.... Shadowy thoughts.
Shadows; “synomynous for people with ‘dark or evil intentions”. “It also stands for objects or groups of people from the past”.
You could call The rise of shadow expansion: Rise of bad people from the previous expansions. As you could guess it doesn’t sound very cool.

Idk I thought villains of violet hold sounded pretty good :P

If you have a deck idea might as well go full ham on it.
I think "Shadows" refers to the 5 villains.
And/or the effect of their masterplans in Dalaran.
Because every typical evil character is always portrayed as a dark and shadowy figure.
Suddenly I wish that Fist metaphor worked out. Then it could've been "Rise of the Shadow's Fist!" or "Fingers of Shadow."
One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.
I am pretty sure that was a Berserk reference.
That is my thought exactly ^o^
