My personal favorite was the League of Explorers meta. I think Reno was the perfect counter to aggro decks because a dumb aggro player who dumps all of their resources into face gets punished when the face becomes rich but a smart one would realize it's a highlander deck judging by card choices and hold back either for burst or just building a big board and had a fair chance at winning. Also high value games thanks to Brann. Plus Whispers was right around the corner and that was a fun expansion too.
"dumb aggro player"
Reno player: Reno, opponent concede
Wow
He compared a dumb aggro playe with a good aggro player here. no hate <3
Probably you and him are not very good player. if an aggro deck, like pirate warrior or such, would keep their cards without play too much and without putting a lot of pressure to face... it's then a lost game from the start.
P.S. it was even better with pre-nerf Innervates and an extra Savage Roar :)
(If you didn't know, the 3 Treants used to have charge and died at end of turn, but didn't matter because with savage roar x2 you'd just kill your opponent)
I miss the days when 14 damage from hand was considered a lot of burst damage.

You don't know how to play aggro, apparently.
I am a decent player, but i very rarely play aggro, so you are right on that. I just wanted to point out, that he wasn't mocking anyone in his post.

Yeah, with pirate warrior, sure. But with things like tempo mage, you don’t want to fireball his face if he’s a reno deck unless you’re killing him.
I have to say: The current meta is the best and worst weve ever had. Best because the sheer amount of viable decks (50+% w\l on average) yet its also the worst, because most decks that are tier 1 or 2 have been around for too long and everybody is getting sick of the powerlevel that the year of the mammoth introduced to us.
Karazhan was the best meta imo. the eternal reno vs patches puzzle, the custom potions that could wipe an entire board or create a new one, and it was a meta that 8 out of 9 classes had a strong spot (sorry hunter). it was stable, fun and competitive. I loved it
P.S. it was even better with pre-nerf Innervates and an extra Savage Roar :)

That wasnt the case.
1, IT was 14 only when druid has empty board.
2. Innervate was giving 2 mana so with innervate and 2nd Savage Roar its 22

Show me another so staple 14 damage from 2 cards.
That meta was the best meta, even if Druids could push more than 14 from hand.

It’s only 12, but leeroy shadowstep? Which left you with enough mana to leeroy shadowstep again and double cold blood.

Leeroy + PO + Faceless was 20.
Regardless, those days were great, because you could actually play around it and you knew the cap was below your max starting health. It sucks to be at full health and your opponent has no board, but you still lose the game.

I would be wary of people who claim WotOG was the "best meta ever" or similar. Rose-tinted glasses and all that. The sheer number of cancerous C'thun decks was overwhelming back then. It was a bit like Odd decks these days. They were all the same, every game and were completely oppressive. Consider yourself lucky you didn't have to go through it ;-)
The metas over the last 18 months or so may have had their ups and downs but they have been better by far than most of the early ones.
WHAT!??!
C'thun decks lasted only 2 weeks when we all thought C'thun druid rocked. Then it was generally seen as a bad deck and dropped. The only C'thun deck that had a chance came near the end of Old Gods with C'thun Warrior, a very *VERY* late game deck that relied on throwing multiple C'thuns at you at near fatigue. And that deck only worked in tournaments.
Old Gods was the time of Curvestone, when tempo decks with perfect curves ruled the roost. Priest was dead, Shaman started off going aggro (thus the "FOUR MANA SEVEN SEVEN!" meme) but that faded away in favor of midrange totem shaman. That deck was powerful but not oppressive until Kharazan.
Druid started coming back later with Yogg Druid, but that deck only started really showing near the end and was still in "oh cool" by the time kharazan showed up.
C'thun like odd decks? They had the lifespan of Discolock, though they did create rage by folks who played for the first week. That's it. Otherwise it really was one of the better metas. Not the best, but it was one of the first actual good metas and the first meta where face decks fell out of favor (once shaman calmed down).
Definitely Un'Goro for me, except quest rogue. Also, I generally think the first meta of each year is much better than what comes afterwards. Maybe its just the feeling of freshness.
P.S. it was even better with pre-nerf Innervates and an extra Savage Roar :)

That could still happen way back when. If I remember, it was Leeroy, shadowstep, Leeroy, shadowstep, Leeroy, coldblood, coldblood, prep, eviserate. You still even have the room to do prep sap or evis if you had it.
I played every Expantion so far. My favorit Meta was probably the Reno/Pirat Warrior Meta but there was never a meta i realy dont like. I generally enjoy playing Aggro decks the most. Thats why i dislike the current Meta bc i feel like Control is super Strong and there are just a litte options for Aggro beside of Hunter and Paladin even if i think paladin isnt that Strong on ladder.
And even if hunter is my favorite Class since i played several hundreds of games with the good old face Hunter back in GvsG i realy hate the current Hunter Decks. Dethstalker Rexxar is probably my most hated Card followed by Zilliax. I personaly think the Cold Blood Nerf wasnt nessesary but thats probably because i enjoyed odd Rogue currently the most.
My fave "meta" was beta and release because everyone played mainly homebrewed decks with what little cards they have opened. There wasn't much online media it was all fresh and new, everyone was still learning the game.
I fondly remember playing my Murloc Warlock decks throughout open beta.
I liked the time when Patron Warrior was king. I never got to play the deck before the nerf, mind you, and it was uninteractive as hell. Still, it was the one time when morons were unable to just pick up the strongest deck and drool all over the place. If someone got the Legend card back from that time, you could tell they were good at the game.
On the other side of the spectrum, we have the Yogg days, which were equally amazing. There was so much butthurt from people who felt like their "skill" had been defiled that I found myself enjoying QQ threads for the first time ever. Also, it was quite hilarious to see even the pros not giving a f**k about anyone's delusions of grandeur. Truly, that was the golden age of HS.
Start of Year: Provoke the failure of 3 expansions, force nerfs on otherwise balanced cards, bring deckbuilding to an all-time low and get rotated one year earlier for being such a threat to the game's health. - Genn and Baku's historical entry on the White Book of Shit Design, shortly before retiring unpunished

Early WotOG meta was great.
English is not my native language, so, with a high probability, mistakes were made.

best meta was when warrior had like 8 tier 1 decks. Don't @ me.
I liked patron but tempo warrior was the absolute most fun I've ever had in this game.
Racked up 1k wins with tempo warrior in 3 months back in the day, can almost hear BEHOLD THE ARMIES OF STORMWIND even now.
