Hi all. I'm a very casual player, and I recently crafted Whizbang the Wonderful. I've noticed that I'm coming up against almost exclusively what seem to be other Whizbang decks whenever I play using Whizbang, but if I switch to an ordinary deck then I only seem to be matched against meta decks. Admittedly this is from a pretty small sample size and at very low ranks, but the contrast is huge. Has anyone else here experienced this?
Well, it's not surprising. Whizbang was a mistake, and matchmaking is their prerogative. Considering the rabid fanbase that rejects allegations of manipulation on the basis of, well, nothing whatsoever, I bet they would feel fairly comfortable with doing what you are suggesting. Now prepare to be savaged by fanboys spoutning off about confirmation bias, sample size and the salt thread, as if Blizzard is Mother Theresa and not a (struggling) for-profit mega corporation.
I'm not complaining! It's making it far easier to actually win some games with him... Just out of interest, why do you think Whizbang was a mistake? For someone like myself he's been the perfect card so far - I've not got the time or money to put together any fun meta decks, so he's allowed me to experience interesting gameplay that otherwise would have been well out of reach!
If you are on the NA server, feel free to add me...N0Sp00n#1422 (the O's are zeros). I really don't play HS competitively; mostly vs. friends or the PvE modes. I do have a lot of cards though. If you want to try some decks or cards you don't own, we could play and you could use the "borrow my deck" (or whatever it's called).

Right. First things first, the 'rabid fanbase' has just as much right as you to spout nonsense about manipulation. Because lets be honest, that have as much proof as you do either way. That is, none whatsoever.
Also, Whizbang the Wonderful is one of the best cards printed. Why? Because it gives people playing on a budget the ability to play decks they otherwise could never play.
And lastly, Blizzard posted record profits last year. So your comment about a Struggling For Profit Mega Corp is laughable. Also, why do so many people want to see Blizzard fail? They employ 1000's of people who support entire families with their paypackets. Wishing those people out of work is disgusting ...
I saw this post last week, but didn’t have time to respond to it. I’ll do that now: when you go into a game, the only variable that affects who your opponent will be is your skill rating.
Matchmaking works as follows:
We use a formula to assess player skill. After every game, the formula looks at if you won or lost and uses your current rating, your opponent’s rating, and your rating history to generate your new rating. We call this rating MMR for short. In casual and at Legend rank, we pair players with similar MMRs. In Ranked below legend, we pair people with similar star ranks instead of similar MMRs. Your rating is the only input that the matchmaker receives. It doesn’t know what deck you’re playing, what deck you just played with or against, or anything else, except for your rating.
When you press ‘play’ you enter a queue for your chosen game mode. The matchmaker looks at your MMR and compares it to the MMR of everyone else in the queue. If it finds someone else with the same MMR as you, it pairs you into a game. If it doesn’t, it will wait a few seconds and look again. The second time, it doesn’t look just for someone with your MMR; it will also look for someone with an MMR that’s almost the same as yours. If it still doesn’t find a match, it waits another few seconds and looks again. The bound for what MMRs are considered a good match keep widening the longer you’re in the queue; this is to ensure that you don’t have to wait too long to play. Usually a match is found so quickly that the widening bounds never really matter. After the game, your rating is updated, and the process is repeated the next time you queue up.
I realize some won't accept this and are convinced the game is rigged. I'll listen if an analysis of 100K+ matchups by a statistics collection site by unbiased competent people show there is statistically significant matchup bias.
For the record I fell out with Blizzard during WoW days and told them I'd never give them money ever again (I haven't). So I wouldn't consider myself part of their fanbase :)

Free to try and find a game, dealing cards for sorrow, cards for pain.

P.S. I like Whizbang the Wonderful as well. I just wish I crafted a golden one : /
