This poll is not the most relyable source because only dedicated hearthstone players are entering this page so we have a manipulation of what the majority thinks blizzard should do because most of hearthstone players are casual players...
never the less i would love to see what you lot have to say. i like the hearthstone communtiy altho the saltyness is real - where isn't it ?
Now i would like to give you my own thoughts about this topic;
Core set or classic set it a question that was considered a lot in this community and perhaps favored i don't know at least i think a lot of hearthstone proplayers would love to see this change. would it be better or would it make things worse. another question that can't be answered in generall because some things are working better with a classic set and some thins would be better with a core set...
first lets start with the classic set;
Pro:
the classic set is great for new, f2p and casual players. the reason behind this is because players can rely on this set all the time. Not only that but also they know the cards so when they come back they know these cards still exist and can come back the way it was with some fresh air from expansions. The other part is that the balance team has the same foundation with the classic set. they know witch cards are problematic when they design new cards.
contra:
the classic set is the same alll the time - it doesnt change a lot except for some nerfs but thats the problem. when designing new cards the developer team has to look at the classic set and sometimes realize they cant do these cards because it would be abused like crazy and it would make the game unfun.
players that play almost every day don't feel like they have a lot of change except for expansions but then agains from expansion to expansion we see the same cards all the time...
Now to the core set and why it would make more fun in my opinion whitch may not apply to all;
pro:
the core set would make the game feel fresh all the time. The developers could manipulate the "foundation in standart" how they want. A few month we let malygos go to wild and thaurissan would come back and another time we bring back slutch betcher and let a few removal cards go to wild.
the other part is your cards would have a lot more value because cards you bought are coming back to life in standart. i'm a wild player play standart as well but the value of cards would be far greater if those cards have a chance to come back in standart.
the core set can still be bought like the classic set but if you have a full set of classic set like now you might have a chance to get new cards witch would be great imo. also a lot of players might have a chance go move into wild more often because they can access the cards they don't have in wild better.
cards don't have to be nerfed that much because they can say look we saw that this card is making a lot of problems so we will put it into wild exlusivly and bringing it back next expansion...
contra:
New, f2p and casual players might have a difficult time catching up witch the change. some might even think if this is a new game and quit right at the spot who knows but perhaps some are eager to find out whats going on.
the balance team has more work to do becuase they have to take in more thought what cards they would like to see in standart in the particular time piriod and perhaps have a difficult time doing so but then again try it out and if the card seems to be a problem they can tell us that it's going back to wild and another card is coming back to standart. a lot of change constantly that might be a problem
i know it was a long pro contra blablabla but i tried to bring in my thoughts and hope you liked this post. i see the saltyness coming hahaha. nevertheless i would love to see this change but it takes a lot more then the community to say what they want that we can see a change. perhaps i'm wrong and a lot wouldn't like what i'm saying because they like it the way it is right now.
Anyway i would like to see your thoughts on this topic or perhaps another solution. write in the comments and vote!
Perhaps I have misunderstood your post, but... the classic set IS the core set... They are the same thing.
I'm sure I've simply not followed what you are suggesting here.
Coret set rotates its not set in stone forever. when they rotate some cards are still included others are out. then they can comeback in the future get reprtinted etc. Sometimes its expansion cards that get included in the core set- example Dirty Rat has been asked for the last year by the community to be included in classic.

Oh, sure - I guess I've never referred to it as "Core" but rather as "Standard" set. Whereas I've usually considered the Classic cards to be the "Core" of the game. Just a confusion of terminology there then. Cheers!
Many streamers and hs websites have been discussing this thing. General opinion appears to be inclined for a core set. I have to agree at this point nerfing most classic and basic cards is just nuts. If they wanted to avoid the powrcreep of cards like cold blood etc cause of baku just made them rotate out until baku and genn go to wild then cold blood etc could return to Standard
I feel like having a core set in the same way that MTG has core sets wouldn't really be that helpful for Hearthstone. Originally, core sets were made to help print sets that didn't have a theme and mainly consisted of medium power level cards for standard. There are only a few occasions where a card printed in a core set really broke out and saw major play in other formats with cards like Prime Time. I feel like core sets wouldn't be needed in Hearthstone since the classic set already does a good job with providing a base set for people to get their hands on some okay-good cards.
The issue here is that the classic/basic set does have plenty of really strong cards. Wild Growth, Ragnaros, the Fire Lord and Big Game Hunter (pre-nerf of course for wild growth and BGH) were all incredibly strong cards you would just throw in your deck for pretty much no reason. In order for the classic set to shine, it needs to have some cards that show what the class is supposed to use and then have supplemental sets build off of it. For the most part, this is something that the dev team has not done well and is why a lot of classic cards go unnoticed. When they do try to support these old cards, as seen with Gonk and the other hp druid-like cards, it often tends to be not enough support to really let it take off.
In my opinion, the classic set needs to be overhauled. Some cards like Nourish and Gadgetstan Auctioneer need to be HoFed and replaced with other cards that fit the classes core identity, similar to the addition of Pilfer, but with cards that have the potential to get past complete meme tier. I like knowing that if I were to stop playing for a while and jump back in after a rotation, I still have some cards that I can always use, but finding a proper balance for these cards to make them good, but not every deck good would be a struggle.
On a side note, I think that cards should get the Molten Giant treatment more, this, of course, be a classic card that got nerfed, but then later would get unnerfed and go to the HoF. Cards that just have no potential in them anymore such as Warsong Commander, Blade Flurry, Force of Nature, the list goes on and on. Sure this could just bring back OG patron warrior, oil rogue, and combo druid, wild is already a really strong format power level wise and these decks could provide some possible change in the meta.

I don't have something witty about this deck, I just like it because Malygos is fun.
Make the Core Set free. When it rotates, you get the entire new Core set.
Most of the cash of the game is probably coming from the Expansions. Most new players will be F2P and, thus, won't spend money on the Classic set. At MOST they'll buy the pre-orders on expansions once they are established. Thus a Classic/Core set you have to buy into just represents a barrier to entry for new players. If they rotate it or nerf most of it, it then presents a hard barrier for returning players as well. And all that for very little cash input.
So solve both problems. Drop the Classic set into HoF. Make a Core set that's MUCH weaker but helps provide a starting point and supports the expansions. Give it to everyone. Then new players have a lot of cards to chew on but still have a big incentive to spend on expansion packs. And you can adjust/rotate/whatever it without pissing off everyone.
And don't feel like you HAVE to rotate it every year. Just do whatever you want with it. Nerf it, buff it, rotate 10 cards in 2020, kill the whole thing and start fresh in 2021, whatever fits your needs. It's free so it's cards you can freely adjust to help balance the expansion sets.

Heh no. I'm assuming Classic gives 0 refund. Instead of free dust you get the entire free core set. I just said "HoF' off of the assumption that we'll want to keep the old classic cards in Wild.
Yes that will piss off some people. But Blizzard fanbases are ALWAYS angry so that doesn't matter :P.
You can actually "close" the Hall of Fame if you move to a core set. I like the idea of making the core set more accessible to new players, but I don't like giving it to them just "bam" in one chunk. That sort of kills the progression beginners feel trying to build up their set. That being said the whole feel of progression needs to be improved anyway. Once you finish leveling your classes up to 10 and unlock all the basic cards, the progression feels way less exciting.
What the devs need to do, is find a way to let players continue earning cards from the core set as they play. Honestly a large dust discount on crafting core set cards could work, a bigger discount depending on how "owned" the card is (determined before the core set is announced so the cost isn't skewed). So players who have to get cards that are new to the set but were otherwise owned by most players before the set can do so without getting punished too hard. If a card is new to the core set and was virtually never used before then the discount maybe as little as 10% but if the card is something widely owned like something from the classic set, it might be discounted by as much as 75%.
Not all of the core set would rotate every year anyway, so this wouldn't be as big of an issue as it might seem. Also if you were a wild player, it would be like having a yearly dust sale allowing you to slowly expand your wild collection at a bit of a discount. Obviously the exact discount rates would need to be tweaked to make the system feel fair to all parties.
Core set is a terrible idea, because HS would be even more expensive for new players to have a chance. And I am sure a lot of players would stop playing HS when a core set would be introduced, because they would feel HS would be even more "p2w".
So if you want to kill HS, go ahead and kill the Classic and Basic sets!
Blizzard should make a special stream lessons or youtube videos in which they explain the the only way hs should be played is with supa dupa 1000 IQ control/combo homebrewed decks and 30 minutes long match is a minimum time period that proves you're not braindead blah blah something etc.
For this hypothetical core set to work Blizzard would need to better establish class identity and cut down on the number of powerful neutral cards. As it stands right now I can't imagine rotating out Fireball, Swipe, Animal Companion, etc for no other reason than the cards being so core to what the class does. And cards like Fungalmancer, old Skeletal Steed, and the Lich King homogenize decks a great deal.
A core set doesn't mean that all of classic and basic are gone. I would recommend keeping basic as part of the core (might need a couple tweaks) and a good deal of the classic set would likely be in the core set as well. If the classic/basic sets are the current core set, you might only need to swap in and out ~25% of the cards each rotation. There are only a handfull of limiting/tech cards that need to be swapped to achieve a good sense of change to the meta.
Also my recommendation of giving a discount in dust for new core set cards each rotation would help curb the p2w feel a lot.
Yeah, core set idea sounds great when you listen to Kibler ranting about it, but its terrible when you think about it for more than a minute.
Just a few problems:
1) There is not enough Classic and Basic cards to really rotate them. They ARE the bare minimum after all. Excluding just one or two card/s can make whole archetype almost non-existant rn. Imagine playing Control Mage w/o Flamestrike and Blizzard. If we assume we print new board clears for Mage in current expansion and it would be too powerful with those basic clears, we have next problem:
2) Wild exists. Would you rotate Core set for Wild too, because this supposed OP synergy cant be allowed (thats why we make rotating Core set, right?), but we still want to play our old cards! So basically we making 3rd playmode here (not counting Arena and Taverns), where ALL cards are avaliable together? Lets name it "Shitfest", because of inevitable powercreep, which will make it unplayable. Just look at Magic. Here we arrive to logistics:
3) How often would this set rotate? once a year? Every expansion? Will Standart and Wild rotations be the same or not? And what if I want to play new set, but with currently rotated out core cards AND without Wild ones? Am I forced to play Shitfest just because of it? Or will they make 4th playmode "semi-Shitfest", just for this occasion? Are we still playing HS at this point?
4) Now lets look at the elefant in the room. What about FTP? Game is already quite expensive, do we really need to make it even more so? We know Core set wouldnt be free, and since we printing new Core cards (look pt 1) there will be outcry.
All this year Blizz were trying to stop powercreep. To prevent Legacy form Magic with its turn 1 OTKs. Therefore less impactful expansions, therfore nerfs to seemingly reasonable cards. Do we really want to say "Fuck it" to all of this? I dont think so. Game is in better state as it ever was, besides maybe Barnes in Wild or Gallery in Standart (Yes, I dont have a problem with Hunters. Well, maybe make rush and lifesteal beasts in DK pool more rare, thats all). And I m really hopeful to see the game after KOFT and KnC rotate out.
*A core set is a collection of cards in a card game that provides all basic tools for the different archetypes to thrive, the cards are often widely played, even outside of the standard format. It would feature something from everything.
*The original MTG Core Sets are the ones with the most cards and only have reprints, were released every two years and ran until 2007 with the release of the Tenth Edition, in 2009 they started printing the newer core sets.
*The newer core sets are smaller and feature original cards along with reprints, they usually feature some kind of theme, they were discontinued on 2015, but brought back in 2018 when Wizards realized their mistake, during their period without a core set Standard play was absolutely atrocious and every similar to what hearthstone is living right now, tons of polarizing decks with no way to fight them back and bans every season, something that did not happen in standard for a long time.
*The introduction of core sets in hearthstone would probably be a reprint set that would keep reintroduce cards that either has some kind of usefulness in said year or be a card long gone that never saw play, but may have it's shot now. Reprints wont hurt a newer or F2P Player as some of the cards said player have from certain expansions, and if would value your tavern and quest packs by a large margin if introduced this way.
*This one is for the guy who talked about Legacy MTG having only crazy fast OTKs, older MTG formats are plagued by Midrange and Tempo decks, crazy comboes have a hard time there because of those decks, the format also feature bans and guess which archetypes are getting hit with bans these days.
