I wish it were the more interesting choice, whereas when the 7th playable expansion in Standard appears, the 1st rotates out and so forth. Last time we had a rotation it didn't matter so much because we were still intoxicated on the power level of Un'Goro, TFT, and Kobolds. So much so that we were scoffing the WW for it's meager entry. Well now it's going to be the opposite and we are going to be losing all of our fancy electric toys and be forced to play with Lincoln Logs come the rotation.
It really makes me yearn for a more sensible solution where X expansion is released: goodbye Un'Goro. Y expansion releases adios Frozen Throne. Z expansion released au revoir K & C. I would go so far as to say it's even pretty cruel how they abscond with all three at one moment instead of weening the player base off of them. Mostly, I think it would be more interesting being incrementally removed.
I agree. They should have a yearly rotating selection from Classic (some in, some out) and the last three/four expansions. Keeping the card pool somewhat free from the static class identities set by Classic would give them so much breathing room to do really interesting things.
Every time I see this idea, I first think it might be worthwhile. Then I realize that it would mean waiting for so much longer for Mean Streets to leave, or in this case, K&C to leave.
Having only Un'Goro leave and leaving K&C and Frozen Throne in for another year would be a nightmare at this point. Let's wait until we have a set of expansions where we aren't desperately waiting for the summer/fall seasons to leave beforehand. I know I'm eager to see what comes out of having boomsday mechs and spirits be the primary tools we can use.
I can totally see where you're coming from, but at the same time having a lot of the cards go this year it is like striping things back and allowing for new ideas and decks to take shape.
apparently the most used set is classic right now anyway. (followed by K&C and TfT granted)
I will also miss a lot of cards, but I plan on delving into wild this year so I can still use my favourite cards that are no longer in standard.
The time during the rotation should be very interesting because everyone will be going back to the drawing board. It all hinges on what we get in the new set really I guess on who will come out on top. One thing is for certain though, things are really going to be shaken up, which could be a good thing.
I wish they would do it this way. Instead of a fresh meta once per year we would get a fresh meta 3 times a year.
Not necessarily. It's not about adding or removing cards. It's about removing KEY cards. You can remove 200 cards from rotation and have literally nothing change. Meanwhile, as you have seen, removing just 4 key cards can completely change the meta.
Removing Un'goro won't be completely without an effect, but it won't really be THAT big of a 'fresh meta'. The last nerfs were a MUCH bigger change so if that wasn't enough to content you just removing Un'Goro would REALLY piss you off.
If we didn' thave to suffer through a year of 'stagnation' then maybe that can be looked into. As it is if we were to try this in 2020 then the first expansion to be removed would be Witchwood. Removing Genn/Baku alone would probably rock everything to the core, so that would be agreat time to look into redesigning rotations.
Personally I think all expansions should be limited to 16 months, instead of two years, Ungoro should have left when Boomsday came out, and Knights Of the Frozen throne should have been gone now. This expansion is only around 16 months. Why have a 24 month expansion, a 20 month expansion, and a 16 month expansion? It just gets stale.
Play this weeks Tawern Brawl. It is interesting how different are the decks without classic and basic cards. And, also, we cannsee how powerhouses are the hero cards.
Hey, this is a super interesting topic! I actually feel that the way card games could utilize rotation and/or different formats is something that has a lot of room for innovation.
I'm actually designing a card game of my own at the moment (for the memes mostly) and I've thought about set rotation quite a bit too. I think a cool way to rotate sets would be as follows:
Six sets in rotation all the time
Sets divided into two blocks of three: new(A) and old(B)
When a new set launches the oldest set from A and B rotate out, and the new set PLUS a random set from the pool of all the previous sets in the history of the game rotate in
Rinse and repeat at the launch of every new set
This kind of rotation would aggressively shake things up frequently and it would sustain the value of your collection as the older sets would still come and go in the future too. In Hearthstone the costs would be too steep for a new gamer for sure, but I'm just theorizing on a larger scale.
I cannot wait for KNC and KOFT to rotate, so no. Was almost considering taking a break until they do, but control priest is reasonably entertaining to play after I got my golden paladin, so I'll play on a bit in the last gasps of the ridiculous DK / recruit / deathrattle fest.
I like the current rotation system. 1 in 1 out seems logical but it doesn't really matter either way. The system is what it is and seems to work fine.
A lot of people including myself would say it doesnt work fine. Boomsday didnt change much of anything RR didnt change much of anything. The nerfs had a bigger impact than either expansion. However KC rotating out as Boomsday rotates in wouldve changed up the meta more than just BD rotating in. 1 in 1 out is far superior than resetting the game once a year.
I like the idea of cycling in old sets, but there would have to be an affordable way to get old sets or the game would be too expensive for new players.
I just find it funny how literally everyone thinks they just know what's better for a game. I don't even care whether you're right or wrong it's just constantly all I ever see on these forms anymore is things would be better this way or that way or if this was introduced or if this was taken away.
It's a stupid card game guys. It's literally just a digital RNG generator with a slight hint of skill. Good cards, bad cards, standard cards, wild cards, none of them actually make a difference.

Play wild and don't care

One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.
That's true. It's going to be Minimalism versus our usual Abstractionism ^ ^
Lmfao. 100% accurate

MTG usually rotates 6 expansions at a time. Don't know what's your issue

Seems like a wash since they cycle the meta 3 times a year with mid-release nerfs.
Free to try and find a game, dealing cards for sorrow, cards for pain.
