So Disguised Toast pretty much quit, is this game dead now? Or on life support? We still have Kripp but so many have gone. I am sort of hoping another great game comes out that the great streamers like Toast, Kripp, Dog, and Savjz can stream and great casters like Frodan can cast because they mostly seem to have lost interest in Hearthstone. We had such a good crew but I feel they were turned away by the noncompetitive RNG and OTK factors which just kept increasing out of control, as well as destruction of class identity like Rockbiter and Fiery War Axe nerfs plus Shamans and Mages being so similar now and Druids getting more Armor than Warrior making all the classes sort of blend together and make tournaments really boring to watch.
Disguised Toast and (to a lesser extent) Kripp are personalities. Neither one is a competitive player. There are tons of players in competitive HS, and most stream. None of them are crying about RNG and OTK. That is part of being a good player. Learning how to play instead of crying all the time. It is why Kripp sucks at the game.
Several notable players have left HS before. Lifecoach (and his lackey, SuperJJ), Noxious, Savijz. The game went on. And it will continue to do so, even if Toast has left.
Pretty certain that doesn't mean its a dead game...these guys stream for a living i'd be burnt out if all i did was play hs 24/7 for years! I don't think that's a metre for how well a game is doing.
Sure it's not new and shiny anymore but the people who enjoy it will keep playing until Activision completely fuck up, they have to play there cards right! excuse the pun! but i wouldn't put it past them to push away the blizzard fans with there corporate greed and 0 understanding of the player base.
Watch this space.

HS is a game that will always attract personality streamers because you can mess about while still maintaining a certain level in the game with it being turn based and all and not too difficult.
I don't think you'll ever have to worry about not having streamers to watch.
I also don't think this means that HS is dying because some of these personality streamers may stop playing. you have to remember they are people too and may get sick of something... it doesn't mean they'll be gone forever though.
I know I take breaks from HS all the time, I only play for about 6 or 7 months a year due to me getting bored or something else catching my attention.
I always come back though... and this cannot be said for any other game really. usually once I get bored, that's it, I never pick it up again. HS is in niche place where it's the only digital card game that is as accessible and has the blizzard polish.
the die hard's will never leave, and I think those of us that are gaming vagabonds will keep returning as there simply is nothing else quite like a game of HS.
The game has been in a terrible state for years: broken OP card synergies deliberately released every expansion and left to run unnerfed for months while the desperate-to-win-easily masses buy packs to craft "competitive" "meta" decks taking an "if you can't beat them join them" approach. A gigantic pay-to-win con that most people can't see through.
The ability to tweak the characteristics of a printed card to remedy unintended consequences is one of the great strengths of a digital card game. Blizzard turn this into a weakness by cynically making money from clearly broken things as long as they can before nerfs then repeating the cycle of shit again and again.
Blizzard, purely and simply, follow the dictates of corporate greed and leave things alone whilever pack sales and new account sign up rates remain acceptable. It's embarrassing that most people can't seem to understand this and become corporate cheerleaders and groupies of the corporate mouthpieces accepting their spin as gospel. It's even sadder that Blizzard's total contempt for the whales buying packs will lead to the death spiral of the game. After all - there are a lot of good and fun things about Hearthstone.
No autosquelch because - why? Autosquelch would improve the playing experience for a significant percentage of players, harm nobody, and must be very easy to code in. You have to conclude Blizzard is either contemptuous of players, too arrogant to want to preserve a proportion of their existing playing base, or just plain incompetent not have such a simple feature in by now.
Yes the state of the game is terrible and has been for years. The only sensible decision is to stay free to play, take what fun you can and never pay them money for this shit.
Disguised Toast and Kripp being the standard bearers for the game. Thanks for the laugh. You know there were successful games long before streamers were even a thing. And why are people suddenly necro-ing the FWA nerf, is it a streamer thing? (sorry, I don't watch that stuff much, too busy playing)

says the guy who just wasted 5 paragraphs on his rant...
Some big name streamers may be leaving, but I tend to see the same number of overall Twitch viewers for HS when I get on to watch someone like RegisKillbin, Kibler, or Asmodai. I used to watch a lot of Kripp but my doctor told me I needed to cut back on the salt in my diet.
The game isn't dead, but yeah, it's pretty boring now so it's no wonder that Toast isn't playing anymore. I'm surprised though and didn't expect him to go (not that I watch him much but his viewership has surged mostly as a result of him playing Hearthstone). For those that don't understand though, streamers and their viewers are all potential customers for whatever game they are streaming (it's basically advertising). If enough of them quit, it does hurt the game, but it won't just kill the existing player base. It will, however, slow down the growth of new players which is very important for the long term survival of the game. So is the game dead? Not by a long shot. Do streamers quitting hurt the game in the long run? Yes, unless others come in to take their place.
Thijs is still very much involved in the game and he has actually consistently brought attention to the tournament scene of the game while Toast has not (has he even gone to a tournament lately?) I'm not concerned.
As far as OTKs being the cause of this, no. OTKs are a branch of control and are needed for the game unless you want things like Odd Warrior & Jade Druid to be the be-all-end-all of the game. Fatigue decks going to whine, whine, whine.
Toast probably got burned out or maybe the meta doesn't suits him, so he took a break. It's fine, anybody can get bored of playing the same game for years. Ninja has been playing FFXI aside from Fortnite, does this mean Fortnite is "ded gaem" ? I don't play Fortnite but Twitch numbers don't make me think it's dead.
He's not going to quit Hearthstone, unless he wants to make less money. People watch these streamers for hearthstone, when they play different games their viewership plummets. Which also means that hearthstone is far from dead, if there are so many viewers there for the game and not the streamer.
It should also go to say something about the state of the game when tournaments still award tens of thousands of dollars to players. You don't consistently toss out that much money to your players over a dead or declining game.
(yes, I lost a shitton of money on the Diablo Immortal clown show)

Enjoying Americans winning in the Olympics is forbidden because it is political. A 14 plus page discussion of state-sponsored lawsuits against a multi-national corporation based on harassment, discrimination, and wrongful death allegations is apparently not political enough to raise an issue.

I don't really watch streamers though, I just play because I enjoy it. I don't really care about the pro scene either.

Free to try and find a game, dealing cards for sorrow, cards for pain.

Did Toast say something today about quitting?
He still uploads HS daily. Can't find anything that says he's quitiing except your post.

Activision is a publicly traded company.
Itemized financials are in the public domain.
No, the game is going very well.

Its GG when Asmodai & Thijs quit.
Please don't resurrect old and long-dead threads without any reasonable cause for discussion.
Especially just to throw some salt around.
Locked.
