So, this admittedly comes off the back of one of the worst outcome choices from Trackingthat I have ever had: - Rexxar - Zul'jin - Spellstone
(If there was a table near by at the time I would have flipped it in baby-rage! Lol!)
But my question is this: is Tracking really worth the somewhat huge downside of losing two possibly really important cards? I just wanted to get some other opinions on the card (so I am asking objectively). I am not saying it is either good nor bad - just that I am wondering if there are not better options for Hunter. Especially since it is also a card I don't really like to see Zul'jin recasting in the late game either in fairness. I could go on and say things like it would be a lot better if it worked like Stitched Tracker or even the Warrior Omega card that discovers mechs. But I don't want to side track to suggesting changes to it - I'm not asking for it to be changed (even though there have often been good suggestions for that) - I am asking if people think it really needs playing a Spell Hunter deck. And if not, can you offer any good suggestions for an alternative card to put in? (barring the standard usual other cards that are insta-includes such as spellstones, companions, Baited Arrow, etc etc.
I think tracking gives hunter lots of consistency and often roots out cards which they just flat out don't need based on the matchup. I wonder how many times the curved spellstone wouldn't happen if not for tracking.
You are not losing the cards. Think of them as being on the bottom of the deck. Unless the game was going to fatigue, you weren't going to get to use them anyway.

To add to this, Tracking is "draw a specific card now" + "put everything else two cards closer to the top."

I've lost too many good cards with Tracking, especially vs some other super slow deck (Boomsday odd warrior comes to mind). I just hate the card so much haha. I thought I was alone in that opinion.
I made legend back in September or something with a deathrattle hunter that did not use a single Tracking. In my opinion, Flare or Wing Blast are much better. I'll just continue thinking that lol.

Fuuuuuuck Tracking. I said no to this card as soon as Zul'jin was released. Fatigue with hunters? A real thing. Discarding two awesome cards? A real thing. Not knowing which card to pick? A real thing.
It's straight bad in spell Hunter because zuljin will just cast it again and really screw you. Between Rexxar and all the other shenanigans Hunter can stall with I don't think it's worth it. In fact, I go the opposite direction and add a copy of Dire Frenzy. It breaks some synergy but if you hold it until you find a primo target it's game-busting (I.e.- huffer, hounds, some broken zombeast, etc).

I always find this line of thinking a little difficult to agree with - only because it feels a little like trying to sugar coat what is essentially a horrible downside to the card. In particular, you can't think of the cards being on the bottom of the deck because they simply aren't. Your deck is now two cards lighter and you have potentially lost an important tech card for the later part of the game. I get the mathematical thinking behind it of course (and the idea). But if the cards were really on the bottom of the deck, you would hold out hope of drawing them at some point. In the case of Tracking however, there is no hope, because you know they aren't really there. I even heard Brian Kibler trying to make that argument once, and I got the impression at the time that he wasn't entirely convinced either and was trying to justify it himself.
Of course, I could be completely wrong in my thinking - this is purely my opinion on it. :-)

The downside only applies if the game goes to fatigue. Otherwise it simply does not matter if you did not draw a card because it at the lower end of your deck or because it is discarded by tracking. Additionally, you have the upside that you know, that you will never draw this card in this game.
Note that it is a different case if you have cards such as stitched tracker in your hand.

you dont play tracking in that matchup, dummie.
only noobs think tracking is bad and this thread confirms it.

If the matchup is going to fatigue, you don't really need to play Tracking. Most matchups aren't going to fatigue though. If you knew specific cards were in fact on the bottom of the deck, you most likely wouldn't be holding out in hopes of drawing them, because you wouldn't draw them until you had two cards left in the deck.....and since Hunter is not a combo deck, that's not really something you need to concern yourself with.

You're right - most matchups these days are definitely going to fatigue. And I think as someone else mentioned earlier, the introduction of Zul'jin has made the attraction of playing Tracking much less than it used to be. The "holding out hope" point isn't really a big thing of course - however it really is, if that last two cards includes your game winner like Zul'jin. Because without that card, some matchups are almost unwinnable - same with Rexxar when facing something like Odd Warrior etc.

What a silly opinion.
ok im silly, you keep playing tracking against odd warrior and make an incredible favorable matchup into a bad one.
also dont forget to mulligan rexxar away, you dont need that lol

I... don't think you've understood this thread, have you... lol Ok, sweetie. Whatever you say.
Just don't play tracking in slow match ups.. too many hunters lose control match ups cause they play tracking.. one thing is finding rexxar.. another is losing 2 turns late game

Do you not find the card is a little high-roll though? Regardless of the matchup? I mean, obviously you dont want to play it against decks like Odd Warrior due to the impending fatigue etc. But even against other faster aggro decks, I have found that it can be a real kick in the teeth when you have to choose between more than one vital card etc.

i would play tracking in every class, every deck and every day.

I only play 1 tracking in my deck since nerf and replaced the other one with flare and its working well for me.
Flare is way better in my opinion.

Doesn't Dire Frenzy mess up To My Side! though?
Or do you not run that?
