man it would be a less frustrating game if i didnt get a bad start almost everytime and my opponent getting the dream every game. This game needs searchers badly.
Yeah I would be for being able to actually pick your starting hand so that control decks wouldn't get blown down by these nasty aggro decks. It sucks playing and not having a removal for that damned Undertaker
im not saying pick your hand im saying there should be other ways to add cards to your hand other than drawing, like sense demons for example add 2 demons to your hand, tracking its like pot of duality and i wish all decks had that IMO
I agree. Last night I dropped from Rank 8 to Rank 10. Why? Bad RNG and mulligans. Them? Perfect draw for tempo and/or to counter to my cards. I was on tilt so bad but then climbed back up to 8. That's one thing I don't like about Hearthstone as much as I love it...you can't control bad luck. You can't control who you're paired with. You can't control your hand or your opponent's hand or what cards you'll draw over the next turns. All you can do is mulligan the best you can and play the best moves you could with the cards you were dealt. In a way, HS is a lot like poker. When I used to play poker seriously and was trying to make a profit of it, I had to grind so many games. Why? Because even if I am a 20 to 1 favorite, I can't control when that 5% happens and it might happen game after game. It's not rigged, that's just probability.
So I had to play so many games to offset that variance. To reach Legend, you have to do the same. It's mentally stressful because when you start losing consecutively you begin to second guess your skills and your deck build. Sure, your deck can always be tweaked to fit the meta (much like poker from switching to aggressive to passive playing based on what's going on at the table), but sometimes and sometimes a lot....bad luck happens.
If you want to play HS competitively, it's just a fact you have to live with. I recently watched Tidesoftime on Twitch where he was at Rank 7. I left the stream, came back 6 hours later, and he was still at Rank 7. Variance happens.
for some reason, im getting massive amounts of good opening hands the past 10-20 games, too bad i f****** them up sometime that causing me to lose won games or else i could have gone like 10+ winstreaks, although i did get 7 winstreaks but it stopped after opponent had a better hand
oh in case you're wondering, im playing ramp taunt druid, im getting wild growth or innervate early nearly every game
i was beating hunters, zoo, control warrior, handlock and you name it, lol
ty rng gods!
the times i played poorly, they did haunt me in the ass
One reason to play control deck is that you need no decent starting hand to win. Many popular decks are all about 'oh he's got the coin, he wins!' Try play sth else that could actually stabilize the starting hand, something that can actually get you out of the mulligan scam.
RNG is RNG. Sometimes it's great, other times it bites you in the ass.
If you find that you are constantly having bad hands and no way of dealing with your opponents openers than maybe it's not RNG, it's poor deck construction. Also, those "Tutor" cards are powerful and shouldn't be added lightly.

rng works always favors the players with skills in the long run
some players consider top decking an rng event...but what if his decked was designed to top deck? is that also rng?
so what if players design a bad deck? they believe it's rng to have no good opening hands, but is it really rng?
rng tends to like players who are good in this game for some reason
one can argue bad players can crush top players just because of rng, sure it'll happen, but will it happen enough?
if that specific bad players consistently crushes top players, can you really call hiim bad? can you really call it rng? maybe it's the matchup? maybe it's skills? maybe it was planned so far ahead that you thought he was bad?
so it seems rng is a rough topic, and everybody is so negative about it
but guess what? everybody was born coz of rng, millions of sperms all wanting to mate with eggs, but only 1 will win, and everybody who is alive won the fight 1 in millions of chances...
yea, i ran off topic lol
but what im saying is rng happens, just live with it
if players only blame rng for losing, then obviously they aren't going to get better
we all think about the losing situations, but why dont' we think more about the times we won coz of rng favoring us?
Your suggestion of "searchers" or "tutors" aren't going to help them make that "dream hand" even more of a nightmare.
There are a few possibilities when you say that you're getting screwed by RNG every time.
1. Weak deck. You say you're running a strong deck (although it is catered to a more control based meta which is slower than what you run into a lot when ranking) so we can assume your deck is fine-ish.
2. Bad mulligans. This takes practice and a lot of knowledge of what you'll be facing. Really broad example would be that lightning storm should be ditched against priests but held onto for dear life against hunters.
3. RNG hates you. There are statistical anomalies. Some people get hit twice by lightning in their lives, others win the lottery twice. If your luck just isn't panning out, well better you than me 8D

This. I've definitely had moments when my lights have lit up with glee at my perfect curve, only to realize that I'm facing a Warlock, and that my 1-minion/turn doesn't matter, either I'm going to be outpaced with a zoo, or they're all going to die on T4 to a Hellfire.
I agree there is a needing of much more control over the starting hand, id be happy also in avoiding the first draw but to see at least 4 cards rather than 3. would be much better rather than seeing 3, bad mulligan, draw 1.
the main problem in my opinion is indeed the start. i played mainly priest and hunter and can tell if hunter doesnt start with undertaker + deathrattle minion is in big troubles. same, if priest starts with cleric it has already the upper hand (which seems pretty unfair, at the end of the day cleric is a common card).
as a former mtg player with some decent results and expertise, i think i am not an horrible hs player, opposite, i know very well how to plan a move in advance, what to expect and how to read the opponent and the metagame. still, the amount of sheer luck in hs is overwhelming to me.
my first season, without any huge cards (just started...) i managed to climb till rank 10. this is my second season ever, i got some serious tools via arena and good boosters and managed to build at least 5 decks which all made legend and tournament finals. played hunter from rank 16 (my start in second season) till rank 7. then i got stuck on a 50% win rate. i tried to tweak the deck but i started to lose. back to normal list and i kept losing. in few hours i went back to rank 12 (which i am now), meaning i have lost over 20 games winning only 2.
the reason? bad hands. never seen an undertaker, when i had one, i didn't draw any deathrattle, when i was trying a mulligan for a better hand it was only getting worse (flare / savannah / snake trap became loatheb / flare / flare and my opponent was a zoolock, who crushed me by turn 6 with a doomguard for the kill).
i also tried to swap deck, using the same very deck i was periodically losing to, ending up with just more loss.
all points out i must be a crappy player, a thing i am starting to believe but actually it still seems so unlikely to me since somehow i always lose not to bad choices but to mere luck by my opponents.
sigh...

Why balancing the game nerfing strong cards rather than boosting crap cards into playable ones?
It seems to me that the meta is shifting slightly -- people are getting better at countering hunter, both in their play styles and decks.
I used to be able to win as hunter even when I didn't get the perfect starting hand, but recently I've needed a near perfect starting hand to win -- which means that I need to tweak my deck or swap decks. It's not too hard to figure out the probability of getting a good starting hand; you may want to figure out what the probability is for your deck before blaming it on pure RNG.
Sometimes it feels like every hunter I face is using the same deck and they all manage to get virtually the same start. Its actually a little unsettling
And for the last 6 Hunter games I have not had one undertaker or drew into one. Caused me to lose a rank due to bad RNG. Sorry, can't counter starting hands with Lightning Storm or Swipe
If you mulligan all three cards, you're effectively looking for 2 cards out of 30 in seven draws. The probability that you won't get an undertaker in seven draws is:
So if you mulligan everything, you only have a 31.8% of getting an undertaker in your initial draw. If you mulligan less, you have even a smaller chance.

I would pick a Lightning Storm and smile. In this world it is a balanced idea not an unrealistic usable one.
And yes OP a card that is like a Sense Demons and Mad Scientistfor more classes would be neat.

If you mulligan all three cards, you're effectively looking for 2 cards out of 30 in seven draws. The probability that you won't get an undertaker in seven draws is:
(28/30) * (27/29) * (26/28) * (25/27) * (24/26) * (23/25) * (22/24) = 58.2%
So if you mulligan everything, you only have a 31.8% of getting an undertaker in your initial draw. If you mulligan less, you have even a smaller chance.
