When the Frozen Throne expansion first came out, Hearthstone was actually fun for a while. There were much more class & deck varieties, ranging from aggressive decks to control decks. There were a lot of deck experimentations and the ladder can be climbed even with niche and wierd decks.
But things have been pretty stale on the standard ladder every since the K&K expansion launched. One-third of your opponents are raza priests, one-third are cube-locks, and the remainings are basically just aggro paladins. I'm not sure how are things in wild, but the repetitiveness in standard makes me wanna give wild a go.
While dungeon run is pretty fun when it first came out, it doesn't give you any rewards after you've beat it with all 9 classes.
I'm really hoping the nerf patch is massive enough that it will have a great impact on ladder and shake up the meta.
KaC is not even 2 months old and people already try to tell how different the meta was. KFT had pretty much the same meta, Tempo Rogue Razakus, Jade, Murloc Paladin. Decks that disappeared are Big Druid and Big Priest. All other decks (according to VS) are part of the meta with the addition of the Big Spell variants.
The problem is not KaC is not less fun, but the meta hasn't changed much due to Gadgetzans, Ungoros and KFTs high power levels. Only a small pool of powerful cards enter the meta. Reminds me of the times before the introduction of standard mode. It's about time we get the rotation in april. I hope the power level of the coming expansions is more like WoG and TGT and less like Gadgetzan.
Also, your math is bullshit when looking at the numbers. Cube lock and Razakus make about 25%. That's not desirable, but far away from your 66%.
It is not all black and white, and we tend to forget quickly. Qubelock is a strong and hard-to-play archetype, and control (non highlander) and zoo is back with K&C. Jade druid feels totally different with new defensive tools too.
I don't think this meta is more stale than what is normal at this point of the expansion cycle. The communty is better and better at finding the best decks, and the best decks were already well refined with a big card pool.
League of Explorers and MSoG were previous expansions before a rotation. And LoE was imo the most diverse and most balanced Hearthstone has ever been. So hardly the problem is that it's the last expansion in a year, the problem is with the expansion itself (if there is even a problem at all).
The situation is the same as it was before the Year of the Mammoth rotation: a polarized meta that strongly force you to go Aggro or Control/Combo, with some spot for Tempo. When the card pool will shrink in April the powerlevel of each deck will lower a bit while new fuel will be injected thanks the new expansion set. Let's just hope what is coming will be fun and good like JtU.

For what profit is it to a man, if he gains the world and loses his own soul?
Let’s hope the next 3 expansions will be low in powerlevel, so the 2019 rotation will finally fix the game
That would also mean a whole year of a stale meta... Warlock loses very little this time, as "the year of the Kraken" did not give them much to work with.
So far the power creep has been so massive that introducing Standard was almost pointless.
after playing a few other card games in the last few months i can defo see where you are coming from.
After returning to hearthstone standard mode, from playing Gwent and faeria it does feels bitterly stale atm.
Control vs aggro with a few other decks in the middle. Corridor creeper nearly in everydeck and insane burst from tempo decks...a pretty rough and boring experience.
Lucky though next month we should be getting news on the next cycle so hopefully that will bring some much needed hype.
The Wild metagame is the same as Standard, only the decks has more tools available (Reno / Lightbomb / Entomb for Priest, Malganis / Sylvanas / Voidcaller for Cubelock / Minibot / Muster for Paladin), only at the low ranks that you will see variety.
Yeah Dr. Boom is now exclusively a midrange card. I will say that Mysterious Challenger is still performing well though in midrange paladin and some more swinging aggro paladins with the secret package.
I do believe though that aggro paladin is vastly overrated in wild though. Now doubt it's a strong deck but I have only lost to it about a handful of times.

The last expansion before a rotation is always the most boring, 3 more months to endure this
