Hey guys and girls! I have been watching the HCT Worlds and have really enjoyed it. I have a suggestion that I feel would improve the game tremendously, and decrease the punishment for creativity and bad opening hand starts.
The main idea I have is this: At the start of the game, players should be allowed to choose 1 card for their opening hand based on the matchup. Watching these pros loose because of poor card draw seems a bit unfair at this level of play. I know RNG is an integral part of the game, however, I believe giving players 1 card of choice from their deck at the start creates a new kind of strategy and aspect of the game. Sintonol could have used this idea to grab his 5 mana Dragons Fury for the important board clear/stabalizier, or his 1 mana Arcane Artifier for some armour. Kolento could have ensured he drew his Wild Growth for turn 2 rather than having 2 in hand on turn 8!! You get the idea.
What do you all think? I would love to hear some feedback. Thx.
As stated above, I don't think this a good idea. What I would like is for the starting hand size to be increased by one, as it would allow more chances at drawing these cards.
I wish pros start to play other games other than HS...HS as eSport is truly a joke...u have the best players in the world but most of the times games are decided by luck of the draw or pure RNG cards.
It's clear there are only four classes that matter now.
Priest, Warlock, Rogue and Paladin (the last one, sort of; many of the Murloc Paladin decks are getting wrecked in these games.) Aggro Druid gets an honorable mention.

Here you are, on a forum all about HEARTHSTONE calling it’s competitive scene a joke. Yes there’s RNG. We all know this. There’s also a lot of skill involved. You’re contributing nothing to the thread. I could type until I’m blue in the face with great points about the fact that skill does matter, but it would go nowhere, and you’ve clearly made up your mind.
on topic; i agree a +1 starting hand would be fantastic. But it punishes whoever goes second even more (already a big issue to some people), because the extra card is less useful (instead of having 25% more cards than your opponent, you have 20% more). Not a big enough difference to put a stop to the idea, but it’s worth mentioning. I think picking a starting card is REALLY dangerous precedent... even if you restrict to class cards. But an extra card on both sides would be so nice!

thx for input. i guess i didnt think it alll the way thru. prob better idea to have more cards in hand, rather than specefic one.

This isn't good.
thx for your input. i agree, there isnt very many deck types at the worlds. i feel bad for players who get to that stage only to go out strictly cuz on rng. feels badman.
Games like Magic & Yu-Gi-Oh don't allow you to even manipulate your starting hand with the mulligan system that HS currently has if you get a bad hand. Why should HS add even more manipulation to your starting hand?
The idea isn't to have HS stray even further away from physical card games by all but ensuring you get precisely what you want during opening hands.

Maybe not, but there’s plenty of other card games out there (mostly dead now, but still). Lord of the Rings TCG, Overpower, and Star wars CCG and others all start the game with an 8 card hand.

I agree with this. RNG is just a natural element of card games and I would rather not see that taken away, as HS is already pretty generous by allowing a mulligan.
Drawing complete garbage is frustrating. I had a game today as Spiteful Dragon Priest vs Zoolock where my starting hand was literally 2x Free From Amber and 2x Mind Control. Shit happens to all of us, the pros knew what to expect when getting into the scene. For every rubbish opening hand out there, there'll also have a godly one.

Do you realize how busted that would be in HS?
People complain about Razakus Priest getting Anduin & Raza on curve all of the time, yet they also want players to have more control over opening hands? More control doesn't work one way, it also benefits the opponent as well.
Larger hands or more control over hands can also end up pretty badly if you're facing aggro. Sure some classes would just cherry pick their anti aggro hands & auto win the match-up, but what about classes like rogue or hunter? The aggro player ends up pretty much not running out of steam.
Lastly, being able to choose your cards would be a godsend for OTK/TTK players (myself included), which again seems to be another playstyle for people to complain about, yet they don't even take into account how further manipulating the opening hand would actually benefit one of the archtypes they complain about. This is why I criticize these types of arguments all of the time; they pretty much stop at "Well, my fanboi Kolento lost because of draw rng, it is about time we did something about HS acting like a card game and making us draw randomly." Proponents of this change don't even think that far ahead about what it really means for the game when you change such a core component of how it works.

I think the game format allows them to even out the luck factor, by being able to win with one deck only once.
There is a lot of skill involved that some of the public doesnt perceive or that is being done during the deck assembly and training.
I believe the game format is good as it is now (sometimes I think it is unfair to get a free spell only for starting second tho).
Nice
