Many people don't care if their cards are animated. Opening golden cards gives us a ton of extra dust.
I was expecting a comment like that. :P Just improving the chances of getting epics, legendaries and extra rares in packs would make up for it.
Increasing the chance of legendaries and epics means people buy less packs, so I doubt Blizzard will ever do that. I mean why make players happy, right?

Yeah, I see a pattern.
Don’t know if you are trolling or just uintelligent.
You can fight hunger with food. Food is temporary. Two days later you will still fatigue.
The above are permanent bonuses to each Hearthstone account. I deliberately didn’t write any temporary bonuses like all the free packs we’ve receieved.
You can compare the above economy changes with a farm. It will keep on providing us food forever. The dog will never grow as hungry again because you’ve permanently given it a source of food for the rest of its life span. And then again, and again and again. Now the dog can almost service all by itself and it will never truly starve to death.

This conversation is getting weird, because no analogies about food and hunger actually matter here, only the bolded part does; cards are not depleting resources, apart from Standard rotations (and even then they only change in value laterally; they don't lose value).
It's weird that it seems important to anyone that we need to be provided for as players. No physical CCG community (or community for ANY collectible game) seems to feel the need to expect free content... probably because physical games require actual investments and thus are only ever experienced by those willing to earn the product they play. The kind of logic we're thinking here (that us free-to-play players need to be "fed") seems only possible when the game that we play... can be played for free in the first place.

That's what I'm asking myself about your post.
Tavern Brawl is essentially throwing the dog a bone. It's a miserable reward that usually amounts to no more than 40 dust a week.
Ranked rewards are only on the end of the month and unless you get rank 5, they are not that significant. They are a nice income of dust, I'll give you that, but they are by no means something incredible.
Quests are quest, you can get them or you might not get them.
The no duplicate legendaries: Well it was about damn time. It took the HS developers 3 years to add this.
Final point. Don't try and convince me that HS is generous, 'cuz it's not.
Bolded part: Spoken like someone who is not hurting for cards. Newer players like me very much enjoy the free packs we get considering we do not get all the cards. It's weird that you're the one complaining about not being given enough free stuff. =/
Italicized: You... always get quests. What are you talking about? There are also no mechanisms to prevent duplicates in... any other game I'm aware of. Why would an entirely or mostly new concept be the first thing on a developer's mind?
Of course Hearthstone isn't generous... but neither is it greedy. You have no argument that it is; it is self-interested, which would make sense considering it is a product that no one has any illusions about it being designed to make money in the first place. You and everyone else started playing it knowing it was a product being marketed, The only reason you think you have an argument is because some of the product is offered to you for free... but it was obviously mostly just offered for promotional purposes same as with all free to play games with micro-transactions.

Why don’t you understand the difference between permanent income and temporary gold?
Tavern Brawls = 40 dust each week or better. You can’t compare that to feeding the dog once because as soon as that bone has been digested there is nothing left but with Tavern Brawl the money keeps coming in.
End of Month Ranked Chest Reward = Dust each month. I get to 5 every time but some people get to a golden rare. You can’t compare that to feeding the dog once because as soon as that bone has been digested there is nothing left but with the Chest the money keeps coming in.
Same as above with upgraded quests. They are just better than temporary income because they keep on giving.
I hope you were just trolling and can truly understand the difference between temporary and permanent now.

I think you're taking the feeding part a bit to literally. Even though cards can be permanent, the excitement one feels over getting something new, is fleeting. This is the feeding of the dog. The joy you get over something new. If you look at some mobile titles, you can see how they fully exploit this idea and feed the dog many times a day, and gives large meals at irregular intervals. Sometimes even surprise feasts; thereby gluing people to their phones all day long. It's not my favorite way of creating excitement for a game, but some people like it.

You might be right. I might be the only one who thinks about the economy of Hearthstone in a rational way where others see three free packs and leap of joy. I however see a permanent upgrade when Blizzard announces a free pack almost every week for 2 games of Tavern Brawl on average.
The difference between getting 1.000 free gold one time and getting 5 free gold every day is not even fair. Permanent upgrades are always better than temporary ones.
I have written an article about the economics of Hearthstone if anyone is interested:
what?! no! disenchanting goldens is the ebst way for f2p players to catch up, if there were no goldens there would be noc atch-up mechanism
