Some time ago there was a post on main wall of hearthpwn from developers in which they asked if players would have been interested in matchmaking based on cards included in deck. I think they made a poll about this.
I cant remember when it was exactly or even if I remember it correctly. Maybe there wasnt even such question and I got it all wrong.
Anyway, if some1 could share a link to this thread that would be great.
I work for a different game development company (not Blizzard.) At least our practice is for these types of surveys to come from our marketing department, which means they bear only a tenuous relationship to actual development plans.
The idea is for marketing to be able to come up with a "wish list" of features that will increase player engagement and make people excited. Of course, implementing such a feature without talking about it publicly would not serve that goal.
Some seem to believe that this kind of thing is going on now and that Blizzard is deliberately misstating what they're doing. I've never heard any attempt at explaining why this would be a good idea for them, and usually the idea seems to be that they're secretly fiddling things to make matches less fun to drive card sales. In fact doing that would just be a good way to make people quit the game, which is why I'm quite sure they're not doing it.
One day, Blizzard may add these kinds of changes to their matchmaking. But, if they do it because of such a survey, they won't make it a secret.

Im just wondering how the game would have looked if such matchmaking were implemented. Would they use it to match you with other decks you have 50% WR against? Would they never match you against deck you have no more than 20% WR so youre not triggered AF.
Would be nice to see sth change in the system already.
I doubt they were talking about your deck's content, most likely they were talking about collection size (or played time?), the "based on cards held" part make no sense in that context.
Any matchmaker that use your deck as one of the parameters for matchmaking can be manipulated by smart people to their benefit, i can't see any good reason why would blizzard implement a vulnerability in their matchmaker and label it as "Better matchmaking".
Matchmaking based on cards is dumb. Your rank is supposed to reflect your skill not collection, therefore that should be the only factor in matchmaking.
Also, card rarity doesn't determine the strength of a deck. While it is true that Generally Higher Rarity cards are better, at the same time that isn't always the case as a lot of Aggro decks are powerful enough to contest the strongest decks, and are cost efficient.
Which of current meta deck is cost efficient? There are no aggor decks atm without a legendary. Although its ofc possibel to reach higher ranks without them it will be harder. Not to mention that there are still a lot of adventure cards being played for which you had to pay real money or farm a lot of gold.
Anyway. You thought about it from a perspective of card rarity. What I was rather tihnking is not matching players whos deck counter each other. Because those game have nothing to do with skill. Just one player being depressed after not being able to have done anything different to win (eg. priest vs shaman).
And why taking closer look at players collection would have to be bad? Isnt this the main probelm of HS ladder that people with shitty cards get matched with decks full of legendaries? That could have been also fixed by imporved mathcmking.
All im saying is that if blizzard did mention it in a survey there had to be some logical thinkign behind it.
Sarcasm is not needed. Youre not that smart as you think you are ;)
Well considering my comment wasn't being sarcastic in the first place and I was being polite, I would have to say "Right back at ya...!"
Perhaps a little less defensiveness would help there....? And trust me, I am at least as smart as I think I am and definitely as smart as I know I am... :-D
"a little less defensiveness"? At hearhpwn forum? Are you kidding me?
Your answer look totally like sarcasm so should have just not written anything or not "aha!". Like what else could it mean if not sarcasm given the fact that more than half people here come to troll someone or get salty.
Why are you telling me its silly? It wasnt me asking those question in survery... What idea sounds silly? Them asking questions? You sound like I made a suggestion for such changes.
Whats more youre telling like you know how that deck inspection could have looked like. You dont know. I dont know. I was just wondering but you are the one making predictions and getting mad at them. Like WTF man?
I swear some people on this forum come to a thread only to blame OP for nothing.

There's another thread, largely dominated by people who believe that Blizzard is lying about how matchmaking works and that the matchmaking system is actually out to get them because it does these things. It's hit 40 pages. I think he may have thought you were posting this as a result of that discussion, and were taking a position on it.
I know that thread. And I know there is a lot of confirmation bias while ranking up. I used to believe those things as I was so frustrated with HS i started to believe it. For ever reason. But its no sense. Its just random players and sometimes shit happens.

FOUND IT :D

Im pretty sure there was a more popular thread about this matter but basically this is what i was looking for.
I have no recollection of actual Hearthstone developers ever coming to this site....
What I meant is that it was hearthpwn post from blizzard official site.

I dont know as well but these are their questions in a survey. If they did ask such thing then surely they had to think about it.
