I wonder why they nerfed the card. They could have banned him in Competitive and Ranked Play while keeping his old effect and leaving him back to where he belongs: Casual. Previously, I was mad when I played my Handlock and he was at 1 Health. 1 Twisting Nether and bunch of Healing, back in the game and it was at Ranked play, where skill factor should be highlighted. Now, i still find him fun in my Mill Rogue but I was not as fun as I played in previous Casual play. The ancestors nailed it: Warsong, Molten Giant,...
(IIRC) They nerfed him originally from an 8/8 down to a 7/5, because his huge body meant dealing with him was a bit too difficult.
Then, they nerfed him again later so that if a spell would kill / remove him from the board, then the spell-chain would stop. This was the biggest downfall for him as a card. I love the card (infuriating as it used to be sometimes to see your opponent luck their way out of certain death)
But it is nerfed now to almost unplayable. I do play him in a couple of fun decks, but not so much.
Case in point: I was mid game recently and it was still fairly 50-50 in terms of game tempo / position. I played Yogg and the first spell he cast did 50 damage to himself. Good game. Well played.
*shrugz* That's his curse, I guess. It is the ultimate embrace of pure RNG in the game and the removal of any skill-based play.
I am extremely happy he virtually doesn't exist anymore. Not only was he a complete joke in the competitive scene, he also ruined nearly every game he was played in for me. If I won using him, I felt the win was undeserved and I felt bad for my opponent. If my opponent won using him... well, that's when my biggest moments of anger happened. I don't think the people who just wanted to ban him for tournaments took players who just play HS to win through superior decisionmaking into consideration.
I hope Blizzard has learned their lesson when it comes to printing RNG-clownfiestas. Printing random cards is one thing, but there's definitely such a thing as taking it too far.

I agree completely. Not only did he need the nerf, he never should have been that ridiculous to begin with.

The trouble is that even the pre-nerf version of him pales vastly in comparison to some of the janky stuff we are seeing nowadays with Evo-Shaman and other stupid win-because-RnG decks...

He always sucked for me and killed me and my minions more than my opponent/his minions. So I didn't play with him too long even before the nerfs.
Before Yogg was nerfed the card might just as well have read: battlecry: flip a coin, heads you win, tails your opponent wins. I will not miss Yogg.
