So should i stop opening packs every two quests and start saving? I spent about £50 opening packs this expansion and still lack all but two DK heroes aswell as a tonne of staple legendaries..

That depends on your goal. Is your goal to have a complete collection, or a collection that allows you to play great decks and have fun even if you dont have every last card? If its a complete collection, get ready to spend a ton of money. You will never be able to save up enough gold to buy all the packs needed to either find the cards and/or craft the rest. This is because there are now 3 expansions a year and you would need about 180k-200k to buy the packs necessary to get all the cards for one expansion. If you need legendaries from previous expansions or Classic add about 15-20 packs for each if you dont get them in the packs. If your goal is to have fun, realize you may never get a complete collection and focus in on the best cards that enable you to play great decks. If your winning a lot or climbing the ladder reasonably well spend more time getting good with those decks and still save gold for the next expansion to remain competitive.
Just hit 1000 gold and I started saving on Monday.Usually I open around 20-25 packs when a new expansion hits but I plan on opening 40-50 because I start earlier.
i like to have around 5k +pre-order+any launch bonuses, so that i open between at least 100 packs on release day, ideally more like 120. i've just started saving recently, should have close to 1k tonight.
with the currently established release cycle, that means like someone else said, i usually spend my gold for the first 2 months during a new expansion on packs and an occasional arena run, and then start saving for the next expansion about 2 months before

Thorough reply, cheers man. I must admit as luck of the draw the cards (epic and legendary) which have happened to drop for me always seem to be Druid or Paladin so I have spent most of my time mastering these classes.
It's a good point you made there to think about how much money or dust you'd need to complete a collection as that'll help me refrain from spontaneous pack buying.

90 gold AND COUNTING!!! I've played 4 days in the last two months, so I'm kinda behind on schedgule, but I think I'll get that 3-3,5k gold. I always preorder packs, then use up all the gold in Arena. Should be ok.
currently I have 10540 coins and 54 unopened packs. it's been so insanely hard not to open or spend. my plan is to save 20000 coins. I figured I'll have that much in about half a year, which the next two newest expansions will arrive, which brings up my next point. hearth is nearly pay to win game. I'll get some good cards and be able to disenchant a lot to craft some good ones too. but with a new expansion coming out every four months to get up in rank in standard you almost have to buy I'll probably sit around rank 15 until I win the lotto.... thank you and have a pleasant evening.

If you are in your first year of playing please read this post.
Dust does not burn a hole in the jar. Be careful what you craft, especially before and right after a rotation.

No less than 5k should be the minimum.
I'm at 1.1k (barely started hoarding gold last week)
I'm up to 4,000g for the next expansion
This!
I've no clue what I'm doing...

20,000
None, Maybe I do 15 extra hours in the month prior to expac and buy couple hundred packs
I just drop $120 on each expansion. Pre-order + 60 packs. Usually gets me most of what I want.

The smart thing to do is to be ahead and not behind. That means spending all your gold on day 1 and start saving up for next expansion right away.
