So I was playing casual the other night, playing an all gold joke deck composed of whatever golden cards I had, and I got matched with this player, let's call him Foo, who I am friends with irl. I beat him with the deck, and then later asked him about it, and he claims that it must have been another account with the same tag. Can there be multiple Hearthstone accounts that have the same name? Or is he maybe lying to save himself a little face?
yeah, there are gamertags next to your nickname, so there could be many guys with the same nickname.
I watched Trumps stream lately and thought my friend was playing against him in arena, since his opponent had the same nick, asked him about it instantly and he declined.
20 million players apparently, so there are bound to be people using the same names. That's why they have numbers attached to the name, sometimes up to 5, to make sure there's no actual duplicates.

Thanks for the responses. I guess this means that the time I beat TidesOfTime on ladder might also have been fake... very disappointing... but anyways thanks

Phoenix Shaman deck + guide:
you can have the same name in game
but the battletag will be different
like you can have 100's of Trump in game, so if you see one, you probably seeing a clone/fake
The full battle tag is the name#number, only the name is shown ingame.
Depending on the "cleverness" of your friends name there can be dozens of them out there.

that's why you pick unique names, when you have an unique name, it's hard to see another guy with the same name
