Don't you guys miss the wild arena? Now it is just about how many spikeridged steeds, vilespine slayers or glyphs you can get. The arena is full with paladins, mages and rogues. I think the card pool is too small now, today I got 3 spikeridged steeds and it was just disgusting, I hated it. I don't know about you, but I want wild arena back.
I thought i would miss Wild Arena, but i actually kinda dont. I dont like the current state, but thats not cause Wild cards r gone, but cause devs still dont respect arena as a format and dont design cards to be even remotely balanced in here, sure bigger card pool would partialy solved the problem, but in the long run, thats not a solid solution. Lets hope they will finally respect it enough someday ...
"Devs still dont respect arena as a format and dont design cards to be even remotely balanced in here [it]"
Sinti's right. The problem you described is more fundamental to arena and how it's treated as opposed to a wild vs Standard issue. Keep in mind we are at a point where there are very few cards in standard, so that problem may lessen as new expansions rotate in. I kind of wish it was a one [expansion] in, one out system, instead of what we have currently. would make things a lot smoother.
Maybe the problem lies with the fact that you can get so many copies of those arena-broken cards. Could a solution be putting a cap on the amount of a card you could get in arena, just like regular hearthstone play? That way you could only ever get two Spikeridged Steeds, or two Meteors per deck. Yet this may only affect fringe cases where decks have stupid amounts of a broken card. So maybe a cap of one copy on some of the extremely broken cards would be better. I know it closes the gap even more between regular play and arena play, but I think it does so in a god way. There's not a lot of skill involved playing against 3 Meteor decks, or things like that. Thoughts?
The card pool is just too small. You can basically expect every Paladin to have at least 1 copy of each Spikeridged Steed and Vinecleaver (which both are OP as fuck), and you even have to expect justa-as-OP-epics such as Meteor, Glyph, Vilespine Slayer and Primordial Drake.
With those card in the pool the power level is just too varying, and decks end up being more likely to either be extremely good or extremely bad. In wild, those extremes were much more rare, and arena was better balanced. Also, smart plays could make up for worse decks better, as you could often win with a worse deck. Today, you get crushed by worse players with decks that compensate for their misplays much more frequently.
Well true, sometimes you're on the OP end itself. Still, with less variance in power levels the games were more thrilling and it simply feels much better to win in a close game than completely steamrolling your opponent, and smart plays actually are rewarded. This is much less prevalent in Standard arena, sadly.

In that case they made arena worse, I was ok with the wild arena

That may be a good idea, spikeridged steed is a rare, not too hard to get
Arena is a victim of the poor rotation decision made by Blizzard.
The honeymoon stage is over with un'goro. Everything is figured out, especially in arena. Those that play arena regularly, know which cards are most effective (read as "broken").
The solution to everyone's complaints regarding ladder and arena is simple. More cards rotated into play more often with an equal amount of cards rotated out.
One expansion in and one out, but the one in should be introduced over a period of time. Example; 120 card expansion introduced over 4 weeks at 30ish cards per with an equal amount of rarity and class distribution. This will create more experimentation and the occurrence in arena drafts affected accordingly which will equal many different decks.
Everyone loves loved Un'goro because it forced the change in deck design. This expansion has been much less defined by aggressive cards and we have 8 classes with presence (sorry warlock).
Wild Arena, for those that call themselves Gladiators, was so much more reflective of player skill and knowledge and rewarded those that spent time in the format to learn the effective strategies and play-styles with a few losses to outliers of incredibly powerful decks. Card knowledge was rewarded. Creative/effective drafting was rewarded. Making the most of playing bad cards to maximum value was rewarded. This is no longer the case. only good luck is rewarded. I, as a professed Gladiator of 6k arena wins, is no longer interested in this arena of best luck wins, no skill required.
And so my typical cycle continues of hard core arena for a month, maybe two, before the gold hoarding begins in preparation for the next expansion, hoping this is the one that brings balance and removes the need for luck.
Come on Blizz. You know what to do. Just do it. So simple and so effective. You're welcome.
It's harder to get more wins now because everyone can get epics/legs and better and more spells so RNG is deciding most games. Arena is not minion combat anymore unfortunately..

I definitely wouldnt want that, i like those crazy decks, that have 3 or 4+ of one card, id like to find a different solution for this problem. Assignin the "correct" rarity is definitely the 1st step. And then mby adjusting the rate at which certain cards r offered in the draft, so u can get multiple coppies, but not as often. Thats something that could be done, since they already completely removed certain cards from the draft, apart from the Wild cards.

Again, not rly the problem of removing Wild cards from arena, but rather the design of new cards and their distribution (rarity and classes).

Yes it is :) It might not feel like it, but it is :)
Wild arena was more balanced . Increased epic , legendary drafts destroyed the tempo aspect of the arena . There is only value aspect left but you cant get the good cards everytime. So yeah it became the rng fiesta.
Wild or Standard. Whatever. Arena never was balanced and never will be. After 60 runs MSoG arena I don't want spend my time for this clown fiesta. But sometimes I watch arena stream. So much insane cards like glyph or meteor. And RNG is over 9000%. How do you play this? You must be crazy xD
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
One day this game will stop existing. I can't wait.

I suggested a while back that they should simply add a wild arena mode, so players could chose standard vs wild, as they do on ladder. They argued that a lack of synergy is an issue with so many cards, but they could allow you to choose an expansion/adventure you want an increased drop rate of, just like they do for heroes. 3 random options.

I dont think that would work very well. Even now, u sometimes w8 for the game almost a minute in off hours, imagine the arena being split in the two. The waiting period would most likely get even higher and more importantly, it would be a lot harder to match u vs player with same/similar W/L so u would more often than not ended up playin vs better decks resulting in more losses.

Why does Vicious Fledgling exist
I agree.

Me too man, me too.
I've had very little success in Arena since the change. Don't think I've adjusted just yet. Where are my flamestrikes?!

Well, since ungoro arena became more or less a coin flip, getting something like that is not uncommon:

I do hope they consider putting both Standard and Wild Arena as an option.
