I've decided to post this hopes of inspiring. I see so many net decks which is disappointing due to the vast combinations of different cards able to be used to construct hearthstone decks. Just to give you a rough idea on the possibilities, Hearthstone currently consists of 881 different cards in Standard. Using just a 2 card deck there are then 776,161 different deck combinations. So the number of different combinations in a 30 card deck are insanely high.
Most serious deck ideas I work on begin with a process. After deciding on a revision needed to the overall deck due to the changing meta, there are several phases to the deck construction:
Determining overall deck theme.
Evaluate staple cards the deck "MUST HAVE" in order to be successful. (See example below)
Evaluate synergies between cards deemed "must haves" (See Example Below). The crazier it looks the better cards interact together.
Eliminate biases on cards after seeing available synergies. (Ever have a card that you thought was so good you couldn't build a deck without it? I used to be this way with cards such as Brann Bronzebeard, Emperor Thaurrisean, etc. Sometimes you gotta learn to let go. This process helps with that.)
Determine current constructions mana curve to evaluate tempo. Are you stuffed on high cost with no way to neutralize aggro decks? Are you likely to draw a 1 drop late game when you wanted to draw otherwise?
Fill deck in with cards consistent with deck needs based on mana cost.
Probably the most important step. Play test the hell out of the deck. Remove cards that don't work on a consistent basis. Don't be afraid to remove cards you previously considered "must haves".
Be able to accept change. The meta is a constantly changing environment. Most people find net decks to use so be able to respond to deck changes based on a quickly evolving meta.
